I've got the 3GS Tour video on my desktop. I'm hesitant to watch it in case it makes me buy one, like the original iPhone Tour did. |

Doctor Glyndwr wrote: In my defence, it's really important I send Grim... an MMS as soon as possible to stop him going on about it. That's a pretty strong defence, in fairness. Is it wrong that I really want the 3GS's compass? The time I got lost on a mountain brings back memories; it's all very good knowing roughly where I am in relation to towns and roads, but fuck me was it difficult to figure out which direction I was facing, given all I could see was trees and a horrendously overcast sky. And yes, I'm talking about a compass in a phone instead of bothering to take the cheap compass keyring with me. This is the 21st century, damnit! |

Malabar Front wrote: Is it wrong that I really want the 3GS's compass? No. The iPhone would be fantastic for walking directions with a compass; without it, it's far more fiddly to work out which direction is which. Google Maps's satellite view isn't all that useful for picking out landmarks to get your bearing by.

Yeah, the 2nd Gen iPod Touch has a bit more oomph in the graphics chip. It seems the 3G S is faster again. This will present interesting problems/opportunities for software devs.

It charges obscenely quickly, though. |

Parallels doesn't like Windows 7 though, not even a little bit. I might end up ditching BootCamp (I am getting a new PC soon) and building a small WinXP image for Parallels.

Hah. People online are claiming that they have a direct download for it from apple's site, but look at the URL: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-6582.20090617.LlI87/iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw I wonder what nasties are in there. 7A341 is the build distributed by Apple at WWDC last week, the so-called "Gold Master"[1] version. Apart from that telltale domain name, this is the same sort of format Apple uses for their content servers -- these are the URLs that iTunes downloads firmware from. [1] I don't see how any digitally distributed software can really be said to "go gold". |

Seems I'm wrong about that URL being dodgy, and edgesuite.net is part of the Akamai content caching network. Zardoz, I hope you're kidding, that's an iPhone firmware file, not an iPod Touch one. |
