I didn't know it was the first time, I was being funneh. Although the film is fourteen years old, so I think it's outside the Spoiler Moratorium period. SPOILER WARNING! Kong dies at the end.

I spoiled Cool Hand Luke in a different thread (a 42 year old film), which I thought it doesn't matter it's 42 years old, but then I thought (afterwards) that I would hate to have known what I said before I'd seen it. So sometimes it doesn't matter how old the film is. If you haven't seen it, then you haven't seen it.

Saw Tropic Thunder over the weekend. It's... OK. The best bit is the spoof trailers right at the start, and here and there it raised a smile but in general it's just not really funny enough. Despite what the writers seem to think, just having Tom Cruise say "fuck" isn't actually funny in and of itself*.

* - Actually it is, a bit. Although he was swearier and funnier in Magnolia, obv.

I did think that Cruise was the only good bit in that film.

No, it was worse. It is not possible for it to be merely as bad as what anyone says, because it is worse. In fact if there's one word to describe it, that word is "worse".

Tropic Thunder has huge stretches of not funny broken up with patches of quite funny.

Overall: Sunbaked turd covered with bluebottles.

I still haven't seen Transformers 2 yet, I know it'll be cack but I still want to watch Megan Fox it.

I've been off work with Fresher's Flu all week and have been bored. Therefore, I've watched a bunch of films I haven't seen before.

Death Proof - Tarantino's Grindhouse segment. It had some of his typically smart dialogue and some moderately cool car stuff but it was really, really boring in parts. It looks like they had fun making it, but the film is a mess. 4/10.

Prince Caspian - Watched on Nervous/Angry Pete's reccomendation. He was wrong. Granted, it's about a gillion times better than the childish prequel, but I cared not for the leads. And Aslan is a prick. 5/10.

How to Steal a Million - Slight, whimsical romcom with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole. It's funny, silly and contains a cool heist. I'm a sucker for a good heist. Yep, a good film. 7/10.

The moral of the story? Old films are better than new films.

I'm 30 minutes into Patrick Swayze/Charlie Sheen 80s-fest "Red Dawn". It is, quite literally, not very good. Europe bows before the USSR, and Reds invade the US, starting their invasion, as one does, by landing paratroops in a school playing field in a dusty wee town somewhere in the State of Butt-end, before murdering all the civilians they could see. Obviously a bunch of high school American football players evade the highly trained paratroops by the cunning plan of running two feet in front of the soldiers, jumping in Swayze's truck and driving off, before getting all guerilla on they asses. Unless Swayze's character turns out to be the President undercover, smuggling a nuclear bomb and the launch codes, but falls in love with Charlie Sheen before he can complete his One Man Mission From God, goes on a suicide mission into the Red Camp to rescue Charlie after he gets captured by the Reds after going on a comfort-hotdog raid in town as a result of a lover's tiff over who gets to carry the nuke, I can't see this ending well.

Less of a prick than Yoda, true, but still a prick. (Adds 2 to the score.)

Haven't seen it, but I found the trailer hilarious. Especially the bit of the curly black haired nerd running very slowly away from equally slow running Russians down a main street. Tell me, did he ever outdistance them in their too-close-to-call marathon?

I switched off a film the other night, before it had finished. This is quite a rare occurrence for me, but the film was rubbish on every level other than successfully blowing megabucks on incomprehensible pretentious shite.

It was called The Fountain. Yes. That. Self indulgent sixth form bollocks on a $40m budget.

Seconded, though I have the former on DVD and have seen the latter. It's still watchable even though Mos Def uses a voice throughout the entire film like he's auditioning for the muppets or like someone is holding his gonads very very tightly indeed.

Ooh, Dog Soldiers is great. I've not seen it for years. Still remember buying it on video at sainsbury's on a tape with Resident Evil (embarassingly shit) and 28 Days Later (30% rather great, 70% toss) six years ago. For three quid. I remember when all this was grass.

Haaang on. That would suggest that people who *weren't* cretins went to watch Transformers 2 after having seen the execrable first instalment. And that just can't be true.
