just caught the finales of Smallville s9 and Castle s2.

both were excellent. Castle has been an average show improved considerably by Nathan Fillion's complete awesomeness and by comparison to Bones which is similar but losing its charm now.

Smallville s9 has been tremendous. Dark, moody, visually spectacular. Callum Blue makes an awesome Zod. The finale was just superb. Lots of action, lots of big plot points.

I've enjoyed this season of Castle , with the two parter in the middle with the serial killer a particular highlight (i havent watched Mondays ep yet)

So people, tell me what to watch next. I devour TV shows on my iPod Touch (soon to be iPad) in my delightful 4 hours of train commuting a day at the moment!

I have available to me:

Smallville (continuing on I got to season 8 I think)
Chuck
Dexter S4
Studio 60
30 Rock
Life
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Castle
(plus some other random series kicking around)

Have I missed anything I should be checking out? I've done The Wire, Sopranos, Shield, West Wing, Glee, Jericho, 24, Lost, Heroes, etc...

I need something relatively tits and gore free, due to watching on a crowded train, and ideally nothing that will make me laugh out loud! I basically use my train time to watch shows that I want to see, but don't want to sit down and dedicate the time to when I am at home, or stuff that doesn't benefit from the big screen HD-ness.

Choose for me, I'm crap at choices.

I would highly recommend any of them. Chuck would probably come last in my preferences, but it's still quite ace.

By Life, I assume you're talking about the Attenborough documentary, and not some American drama I'm unaware of?

Breaking Bad. Although I haven't seen Studio 60, 30 Rock, Life or Castle. But out of the others definitely Breaking Bad.

By Life, I am indeed talking about some American Drama you have just heard of from these two posts...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0874936/

Dexter S4 would be my preference, but is it either gorey or booby? If so I shall watch it in HD large screen wonder so that I can wank furiouslydon't upset my fellow commuters.

Not really nudey at all IIRC. There is one episode with choppy-uppyness though, yes.

Somewhat highly recommended anyway!

Ah, I haven't heard of Life. Strip that from my recommendations, then, for obvious reasons.

Dexter S4 isn't particularly gory, and there are only a few scenes with boobs; certainly not as much as in S2. It's thoroughly excellent, though, and probably my favourite season so far. Excellent story, and brilliant acting*.

:this:

Although I think it's really nicely shot and generally deserves watching on something better than a screen the size of a postcard and somewhere more quiet than a train.

Indeed, that is part of the problem, I watch stuff on the train that I want to see, but don't care enough about to want to see in full glory. For example, i'm currently watching Ashes to Ashes, before that was Babylon 5, before that Jericho. All stuff that has interest to me, but I wouldn't sit down and watch at home, nor does it need more than a postcard to watch it on.

I'd choose those two. I'd add in 30 Rock, but it's very funny at times, so you may laugh out loud.

I'd also add in 'White Collar', which is another cop/mystery/unlikely buddies type show, but like Castle is done with style.

A sense of humour.

It's definitely worth watching. Nothing new or ground breaking, but very entertaining.

i went with Breaking Bad in the end, although I do have Studio 60 and Castle on the iPod too, in case it all gets a bit too offensive. Halfway through episode one and it's looking promising.

Better Off Ted and Community are both fantastic. Ted's just been cancelled though, more proof that Americans can't have anything nice.

Don't know how much of House you've seen, but the latest season has been very good indeed.

Glad it's been commisioned for a 2nd series.

Some crazy lady is watching Lost from the start this week, in an attempt to get all of them done before the finale on Monday...

http://astrangetripthroughlost.blogspot ... oject.html

She has never seen them before and is writing thoughts on each episode as she goes, it's actually quite interesting to read. (Or I thought so anyway!)

Also, the finale of Lost is being shown as a simulcast with the US, so is on at 5am Monday 24th on Sky.

I've had Damages recommended to me. I did like Glenn Close in The Shield s4 so I'm kind of tempted. Anyone tried it?

Bit annoyed that the finales of Desp Hswives, Smallville, Castle and Bones all came at the same time. Still got V and Breaking Bad to start though.

Breaking Bad season 1 has 7 episodes right? If so, then i've just finished season 1. Enjoyable, well written and well acted, but not mind blowing great :) Season 2 awaits, looking forward to it.

Started the first one of Castle today... it gets better, right? :D Only 20 minutes in but finding it incredibly cliched and predictable at the moment.

Yes. Season 2 really kicks it into gear, definitely great.
There should be some enthusing about it hidden earlier in this thread, use the search if you want.

It is incredibly cliched and predictable. But that doesn't matter, because it's brilliant, and Fillion is fantastic, and Stana Katic is delicious.

To be fair that's actually why I watched it in the first instance and subsequently brought it up on here.

Other than that though it's a great watch with some cracking lines and some pretty decent acting. There was a point in the season 2 finale where Stana Katic looked like she'd been punched in the gut by something Castle had said and she did it all without gurning or hamming it up. She's good to look at yes but she's also a fine actress.

When does 'Lie To Me' start again on Sky One. I was promised new episodes "In the new year", but have yet to see any adverts for it. C'mon, television types, sort it out!

Given that House, 24 and Lost are no longer on, I need more shows!

Thankfully, as well as Glee, Castle, White Collar and various comedies, I still have that Season 2 Dexter DVD...

Yeah, quite a bit more. And of the coroner lady who always seems to beat the detectives to the crime scene by quite some time.

Unfortunately the whole appeal, and I dare say the point of the show, is Fillion but apart from that it's one of those occasionally serious/occasionally funny light-hearted things like a Boston Legal or a Bones.

It's a little unfair to judge it without mentioning the Fillion as I'd guess the whole thing was written for him.

It's not amazing and is behind a bunch of shows on the must-watch list but it's better than a lot of stuff I've tried out.

It's not quite as bad as The Mentalist with its ‘Here is a murder, and the following people are the ones who may be involved. Guess which!’ approach. However, I do like The Mentalist anyway.

Similarly, I quite like Columbo, where the formula is: ‘Here is a murder, and the person Columbo is talking to is the guilty one. Columbo will now spend the rest of the episode politely bothering the suspect until they confess’

Repeat for 10 series.

Columbo has Peter Falk and amazing Special Guest Stars. This "Castle" has some bloke with a big square head who is apparently amazing for some reason and some lass from a James Bond film.

Actually there's currently a stage version of Columbo starring Dirk Benedict as Columbo on in Blackpool. Might have to go for the LOLs.
