That last episode left me with bad vibes. HBO really knows how to make a gruesome fight, as i remember vividly the one from Deadwood between Hearst and Shwerengen's henchemen. Or the one from the last season of Boardwalk Empire.

And I really felt sorry for Jorah. That was heartbreaking.

And is there any reason for the unsullied to be castrated? Doesn't that mess with testosterone production, and therefore muscle built? How does that work for a warrior?

I don't know much about biology, but it can't all be down to huge levels of testosterone. Otherwise how would women bodybuilders exist? I think any muscle, if worked, will eventually grow/repair and get bigger. So Unsullied, who were trained every minute of their slavey days, are probably well muscled and mentally brainwashed disciplined?

EDIT: Also, didn't Cleopatra or some other Egyptian queen have enuch guards (that they possibly also sexed with, risk free)?

Nice article.

So it's true. Lack of testosterone isn't compatible with good warrior skills. But maybe they have ways to synthesize steroids in Westeros, and the Unsullied go to war in full roid rage mode.

Also, without the steroids, i can only image what the war cry of an unsullied battalion would be. Not very frightening, i reckon.

Aren't they called unsullied because of their tremendous ability to control their bowels and poop by forcing bodily waste into the production of their fingernails which grow faster but they just clip off the hard faecal fingernails with scissors and deposit them in the bin.

Having some kind of romance plot between Grey Worm and Missandei would make sense in any normal scenario (they're more compatible with each other age-wise than any others in the queen's inner circle certainly) but with the castration thing it just seems a bit silly. I'm hoping at least this is something that's in the book and not just the TV show trying to disappointingly shoe-horn this in.

I'm curious now how they're going to keep Sansa and Arya apart given that the show delights in letting Stark family members to come within a bawhair of each other before separating them again, but they're so goddamned close at the moment. Unless Arya chooses to stay with The Hound and just walk away but that seems unlikely on a number of levels.

Also, nice to see both the Sansa and the actress that plays her finally start being interesting. The amount of screen time she's had while much more interesting characters, and better actors, languished by the wayside has been pretty criminal up to now.

The House of Aryn is connected to the Starks regardless of whether Sansa is there or whether anyone knows who she is. Also, although no one knew who Sansa was before, they certainly do now.

Also, having to fucking spoiler everything is a giant goddamned pain in the ass (especially if you're ever posting from a mobile device). Can't we just have it that if you haven't watched the latest episode you stay out of the thread and only spoiler stuff from the books if someone asks a question? The thread's about Game of Thrones, why do we have to censor everything that's actually about the subject of the thread? I'll carry on doing it if that's what people want of course but it seems pretty stupid.

I like how rllmuk does it. Spoiler tags are to be used until 10pm on the day after the broadcast.

And speaking of courtesy, it also has two GoT threads: one where anything goes and one where any mention of the books is disallowed. I prefer that approach. There are book spoilers in this thread, lurking behind spoiler tags that look the same as the TV ones. I rarely read this thread in case I carelessly click through the wrong ones.

Hell, even the post by DavPaz up there about a particularly plot line not being in the books is more of a spoiler than I ever want to see. That implies things about where that is going, that it's unlikely to be important.

If you're in the UK and you watched the last episode six days ago you're likely to have discussed whatever you wanted after watching the previous episode nearly a week ago anyway; and you won't have much else to say until you've seen the most recent episode so staying out of the thread isn't much of a hardship surely?

I'm not being a dick here; I'm just asking a question. How much chat is actually happening here that isn't about the most recent episode by people who've watched it? If the answer is 'very, very little' then can't we just flag it as being for that purpose and move on?

Why not just re-purpose this one which already contains everyone's conversations, and the set of people who don't want to talk about the latest episode can start a different one if they want. And I say that because I'm willing to bet that second thread never gets created.

We're doing it for folk that normally have better shit to do than watching telly as it's shown*, but still accidentally/compulsively click into threads with subjects that interest them. We live in a wonderful era where you can record telly or wait & buy it all in a wanny and it's a lot easier to consciously hide a spoiler than it is to avoid them when you're browsing on autopilot.

I don't agree with a single thing you've said here, not least the weird implication that it's somehow superior to be doing something else rather then watching a TV show as it's shown, but as I'm getting no other traction here (aside from snarky dickishness from myp) I'll take that as an answer and drop it. Maybe Grim could code the forum up so everything anyone says anywhere is automatically put in spoiler quotes so no one has to take responsibility for choosing to click on anything ever. Then we can put each thread in a spoiler tag and put the whole lot in a subforum marked "Here be dragons [SPOILER ALERT: THERE MAY OR MAY NOT BE ACTUAL DRAGONS]" so you don't even know it exists until you click on it. Then we'll have to wrap the entire site in a spoiler tag so no one can accidentally blunder in the door and have it spoiled for them that people sometimes talk about stuff so a Google search for 'Beex' just returns the text "FUCK OFF".
