To be fair, it's probably via LIVE.

If your not in a rush - The Hut / Zavvi / Tesco / 7dayshop all have 2100 point cards for between 14 and 15 quid - however they will need to be 'posted' out to you so would take a few days - if its instant and Shopto are out i'd probably give up and use the dashboard.

Clicked refresh and shopto had some in stock. Interesting system - I just wonder how they run out of digital items - i assume dthey were plumbed direct into MS....

Fuck's sake - choosing schools is rubbish. And we can't even be guaranteed of a place for First Born at the lovely primary school which is walking distance from us, due to the ridiclous practice of giving siblings of current students first dibs on places.

That's unlucky chap but I guess it does make a bit of sense, for the school run and that.

Yeah, but they still get that even if they move to the other side of the town. Seems unfair that people who move out of the area still get dibs on places.

Anyway, we shall see. Will be having fingers crossed, and that.

I shall also be looking into becoming a governor of the local primary school we'd like him to go to...

How does that work? Do you call up the council and ask, then they send you some forms or something?

Looks like a decent monitor to me. Is that the best price for that model though? Normally if you snoop around you'll get a better deal than from PC World.

Mrs K is dealing with the mechanichs of it, but basically, yeah. You fill out a form and put down your 4 choices in order of prefernce, and you may get none of them and end up somewhere shit the other side of town due to ALL THE FUCKING HIPPIES HAVING FUCK LOADS OF CHILDREN.

Of course, if he does get in, you'll be roundly cheering the system in two years time.

A few people here have the P2270 and really liked it, I seem to recall. I have the bigger brother model T260HD (26" screen with extra TV ports like SCART and several HDMIs) which I've very happy with.

Also: £150 at Lambdatek.

Only because we'll not have to worry about non-local siblings crowding him out.

I think the admissions should give first dibs on basis of distance (we're supposed to be encouraging lower use of cars), and particularly to people whose kids went to the associated playgroup.

Not at all, no.

That may be a happy side effect of my proposed rules, but it would apply equally to all of the people who live in the area around the school.

It IS a nightmare, finding schools for your kids.

C got turned down for our local standout primary when we first applied, even though it's literally 300 yards from our front door and she attended the nursery. She did get in eventually, we were called two days before the start of the new term and offered a place.

She got turned down by her top 3 of 4 comprehensive schools when she was 10-11.

The fourth choice turned out more than adequate and I will say this, it was probably the best fit for her personality and there's no argument that she did alright there. The thing is, sometimes the average schools try harder and will make more of an effort to look after their standout pupils.

Still, it's a serious fucking headache so I feel for you.

Bizarrely, her having got into Atlantic is fantastic and it is an amazing school, but I miss her like fucking crazy. It's not even three weeks and it feels like three months.

I wouldn't mind going to Truro high School for Girls now.

You find them in Manning's cocktail bar at about 5pm, if (happy) memory serves.

I've just cancelled seven pre-orders with Amazon because the delivery estimates are all for the Monday after a Friday release, despite choosing first class delivery. It seems first class doesn't mean anything now that they've given us the expensive Expedited option (free for Prime members of course!). I thought the idea of Prime was to act as a bonus to subscribers, not to give them the service we used to get anyway for extra money whilst making the previous first class service worse.

What's the point of a pre-order if you don't get it on release day? Admittedly, some of the pre-orders were likely to be cancelled anyway, pending reviews and stuff, but still!

Also, further Amazon annoyances - what's the deal with paying for "first class delivery" only to have to wait three or four days for the items to actually be dispatched from the warehouse? Sure, they'll turn up quickly once dispatched, but I still have to pay more to wait ages. And they all had "immediately available" status when I ordered them, and they're all coming from SarL (whatever the fuck that is, although it hasn't been a problem before), not Indigo Starfish or anything.

I'm really losing my rag with Amazon now. I've spent thousands with them over the years but they've been nothing but irritating the past month or two.

If you buy so much with them, wouldn't Amazon Prime be worth it? (not sure it would make a difference on pre-ordering games though)

See if shopto.net are a decent enough price for you. I've never had a problem with them, and they give you a £3 refund if the game doesn't get to you by release. If you're eager, the possible higher price is worth it.

I suppose, but I'm kinda protesting it (see above) - they've basically made their normal service worse, as far as I can tell, to blackmail people into Prime.

It's not that I'm particularly eager - I've always found that if I want to get a game on release day, head down to the shops to guarantee it (unless it's GTA IV et al, which might be sold out, in which case a pre-order or queueing before the shops open is necessary). It's just convenient to pre-order and have it delivered on release day so I don't have to bother going to the shops. But if they can't even guarantee that, I see absolutely no point at all in "pre-ordering". I can just go to the shop and get the game on the day instead of waiting until the following bloody Monday.

I've swapped my Dead Rising 2 pre-order to GAME with express delivery, so I'll see how that one turns out. I've also got Reach still coming from Amazon with expedited delivery - for the sake of science. I'll see what happens with those two and then I might have to give Prime a trial or never use Amazon again as the case may be.

Two ladies just knocked on the door wanting to know if I would like to discuss the bible with them. I declined politely, but thanked them for their time, and offered them an umbrella as it looks like rain. They seemed pleased by this but turned it down. I think it's kinda nice that people do stuff like that in a way.

That's exactly what it said for me... on all of my pre-orders including DR2, having previously displayed the release date as expected delivery. I'm bloody glad I happened to check, because I assumed everything was due for release day. Only Halo Reach is now due on release day because I chose the £7(!) expedited option to try it out. I'd also pre-ordered literally about a year ago for most of them.

But yeah, let us know if it turns up! Science!

I will stick up for ShopTo here as they're great! I always get things on day of release and if things go missing, they replace it after a week or something like that.

I'd try them WTB!

Only a 4 day week for me as I'm flying to Belfast for a wedding on Friday!

Plus, music quiz tonight!

But other than that... very slow week.

I will stick up for ShopTo here as they're great! I always get things on day of release and if things go missing, they replace it after a week or something like that.

I'd try them WTB!

Definitely gonna give those guys a go as well. I'll transfer my Fallout New Vegas pre-order to them, DR2 is coming from GAME and Reach from Amazon. FACE OFF!

I just read on Wikipedia (which is all truth, all the time) that early units of Track & Field used a trackball for running. :S How the heck would that have worked, then?
