I've seen the state of the women in Blackpool. If we did that we'd all have to wear mankinis in the biting north-easterly gale. With rain. And an owl!

Police to wear helmet-mounted cameras. Also to double as balisha beacons.

Quote:
Smyth gave it as his opinion that recording cameras could provide useful corroboration for an officer's account of events, especially in cases of malicious accusations being made - which he said is a common problem. But clearly he felt that it would be necessary for the camera equipment not to spontaneously burst into flame while in use.

Um... K.

I do think this is a good idea, though.

Obviously it'll be OK if the officers want to put tape over it before administering beatings though.

I have a shitey old PC with a DVD ROM drive, which doesn't seem to be able to work with the blank Verbatim DVD+R discs I bought earlier today. I bought them because I have a few game images I want to burn that are larger than 700mb, but while the drive will still engage with CD-Rs quite normally, these DVDs just seem to whirr around a bit and then stop. Am I doing it wrong, folks?

Probably your DVD drive firmware. I had the same problem trying to use Maxell DVD-Rs on my old drive.

Cheers, mate. Should I check the manufacturer's website, then? I really haven't a clue, here. :p

Edit: actually, I've no idea who the manufacturer might be. It's a shop-bought Dell PC that hasn't had a single component upgraded.

Probably a good first step. I think I found mine via a third party site. Try looking in the Windows device manager and getting the full name for the device and searching for that + "firmware"

Gnargh - hour long cafe internet not enough!

Also, business people - don't conduct your cocking meetings in cafes, I come here to relax and read, not to hear you jabber on about productivity and quarterly results. Gimps.

Aye, there don't even seem to be any files for it on Dell's site. Cheers, mate. :)

Oh well, I just need to find some CD-Rs that can hold over 800mb, then.

You go to the cafe to read? It's not a library.

2 torrential downpours here and we've discovered some problems with the new house. Firstly half the patio is now under 2 inches of what smells like drain water, the guttering on the front door doesn't work meaning you have to walk through a waterfall to get into the house. The splashes also cause the previous owners fancy catflap to leak. And the garage roof leaks as well.

I really do think the previous owners did fuck all to maintain the place. Clearly not short of a bob or two with fancy garage doors and pointless and inefficient underfloor heating but did fuck all to maintain it all.

In other news I experienced some kind of mental breakdown due to feeling abit ill this afternoon and have decided that I might move offices.

And finally, when I got home I saw a tiny spider and a bee having a fight. Normally this would have cheered me up.

Anybody gonna chance Torchwood tonight (and every night this week I think)? I gave up watching this quite a long time ago, but just have a feeling, or at least a hope, that this 5-part thing might be worthwhile.

I have it on to record. I enjoy Torchwood. It's insanely variable in quality, but it entertains me often enough to be worth the time.

Or karting, if you prefer.

I've done survival training with 2 Para, so I'd be up for that :)

Er, I recommended Fight Like Apes the other week, but forgot to mention Stornoway. They're ace. A bit like Fleet Foxes but from the UK and possibly much better. I saw them at Middlesbrough Music Live last month and they played Glasto (I think they were on the telly, actually), but they don't have a record deal/album, and they're not on bloody Spotify, either. Here's one of their songs:

Give it a bash!

PRIOR WARNING: They're more Nick Drake than Megadeth.
