Am I going to be confused if we just straight to season 4?

You could probably do it but you will get confused over some parts / some peoples lives move on , and there are new characters added / removed - there are also some story arcs which are moving slowly having started in S1 or S2 which wont make sense to you.

I'd suggest trying to go for S2 but possibly have a break - I only picked up Dexter last year and watched S1 at a rate of about 1 ep a day then had a short break and did the same with S2 , a longer break then S3 , and then S4 when it was actually on

I never made it to the end of S3 of Dexter as the premise was a little too silly for my liking. I have S4 on my HDD but haven't watched it yet primarily as watching these things tend to be family events and Carys rarely has any bloody time to watch anything she's working so hard at the moment.

3 was definetly the worst series for me , lots of things just didnt work , but 4 was excellent and I would recommend you both try and make the time to see it

I thought 3 was a bit of a return to form after an iffy second series. I'd definitely agree that the fourth series is the best, though. That Thanksgiving episode. Ye gods.

Oh and Better Off Ted: terrible name, brilliant show. Definite Dilbert-y vibe but markedly more wild and surreal. Portia de Rossi is absolutely brilliant as Ted's boss, she's clueless, high-handed and completely lacks empathy in a way that's pretty much indistiguishable from actual evil.

Started watching J-pod but finding it tries a bit too hard maybe. And the usual problem of it being an adaptation of a favorite book.

Yes it was available on a Dark Alley which may or may not still be available due to recent legislation. I got it from doccy G.

I <3'd the book.

I liked the book, though I preferred 'Microserfs', which is very similar.

I do love COupland books. they're not always fantastic, but some of them are top notch, and the other, weirder ones always contain goodness of some description.

This sort of fits in this thread. Genius US Food Network export Iron Chef has a UK version running next week, starting Monday 5pm on C4. Nick Nairn and Olly Smith host.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before (I couldn't be arsed reading through 28 pages to check), but are there any fans of "Breaking Bad" here ?

Here's the Wiki page : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_Bad

I only heard about it a couple of weeks ago and since then I've gradually become more & more addicted to it. I've finished the first (short, only 7 episodes) season and now I'm four episodes into Season 2.

It has an original & interesting premise & great acting (especially from the main lead character - no idea who he is).

It's not exactly fast-paced, but it's always engaging thanks to the quality scripts & acting, and it grows on you more & more with each episode.

After struggling to find a decent US drama to watch after The Wire, Six-Feet Under & The Shield ended, this has been a nice find for me.

Yeah breaking bad is great. Other good current/recent dramas that you might like.

Treme
Mad Men
True Blood

Breaking bad is fucking brilliant! It gets seriously tense later on. I haven't had the nerve to download season 3 yet.

Looked up Treme, and it's by the same writer as The Wire, so I'll definately give it a go (once I'm done with Breaking Bad).

Mad Men : Watched a few episodes when it first aired and I could certainly appreciate the quality (and I totally understand why it's highly rated).
I just never personally found it particularly gripping or engaging though. Not sure why.

True Blood - Watched the 1st episode of Season 1 a while back and it was ok but I'm really not into the fantasy (or Sci-Fi for that matter) genre when it comes to TV series.

I enjoy these genres in big-budget movies when you can turn your brain off a bit and enjoy the spectacle for a couple of hours, but when it comes to long-running TV dramas I prefer a degree of reality and grit.

Thanks for the recommendations though, and I will definately watch Treme (a show I didn't know existed until you mentioned it, and from what I've read about it since, I have a feeling I may love it).

I don't know why exactly, but True Blood is my favourite current TV show without a doubt. I enjoyed series one although I didn't think it was pure bottled excelletness like I do now but series two is just on a whole new level. It has excellent laugh out loud moments every episode as well as having some excitement thrown in and it always seems to do what you want with the characters, rather than having you going 'Oh what's he doing that for'. I :luv: it.

Id keep with Mad Men, it really isn't plot based at all, its just a really slow paced drama, I think you should really try watch the whole first series see how you feel about it. As for True Blood it is quite fantasy based I admit but its got a certain quality to it as well and isn't such a gratified titfest as the first episode might seem.

It's Bryan Cranston - he was the dad in Malcolm In The Middle (which I've been watching recently and is surprisingly ace. Was it the first in the run of cynical-but-with-well-disguised-heart sitcoms with no laugh track that are almost the rule rather than the exception these days (see: My Name Is Earl, Community, Modern Family, Better Off Ted)? Where's MarkX when we need him?).

For me, it's all about the supporting characters. Sookie has very occasional moments of awesome but Vampire Bill is a massive dullard and the main plotlines feel a bit "Vampire: The Masquerade Game Being Run By A Fourteen-Year-Old ST" if you know what I mean and nobody here probably does.

But you can't throw a stone without hitting an awesome secondary character. Tara, Lafayette, Eric and Pam, Jessica, Detective Andy, serial fuckup Jason and, you know, many many more. They're what keep me coming back. Third series this summer, I can't wait.

:this:

The supernatural stuff is well played too - I thought the Sam vs the Maenad thing was excellent.

Yes. It's hilarious. Though often in the cringe-worthy "Nooooo! Don't do that!" kind of way.

But it's still excellent.

Chuck returned (again) after its short break this week , with an episode i really liked

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
although the main story was that Chuck and Sarah work well as a team and should work together as spies
Some nice moments including them both (seperately) breaking into the 'baddies' room , and although handcuffing them together was slightly overused (hey maybe they like that stuff) the epsiode worked well - and actually for me gave a better 'end of season' than last week.

The tricky part of that is there is another 8 episodes to go :-)

So... Heroes has been cancelled then...

Flashforward too.

Not that either of them are a real loss, but I still enjoyed Heroes, even though it had massively lost its way compared to the first season and the last season was pretty dire in places.

Lost airs Tuedays in the States, and then the same episode on Friday in the UK.

So we're 3 days behind them.

I think there are two episodes left... though the final episode is either two or three hours long.

The story of Jacob and his brother being born and growing up.
Are Sky 1 and American air dates in sync with each other? How long after the last episode airs in America do we get it? Will I have to stock up on rations and lock myself away for days so as I don't get spoilers?

Lost airs Tuedays in the States, and then the same episode on Friday in the UK.

So we're 3 days behind them.

I think there are two episodes left... though the final episode is either two or three hours long.

It's quite exciting to think that in just a couple of weeks time we'll all be moaning about how much of an anti-climax it has all been eh? :p

So shaw is back and intersect'ed (1 or 2?) up , i do remember in early episodes they mentioned that chucks brain was special in some way which made the intersect work better for him than other people.
Ellie has been conned into the spy world with the ring and has not even told the people she *thought* she could trust (like her dad) - i know its just a plot device because he'd tell her she's wrong but it is slightly infurating.
And Sarah doesnt need an intersect to do the stuff Chuck can just cause she's awesome........ (no relation to Devon).
And a little more of Jeffster who may be hitting the big time ?

That was last Tuesday's US ep, a new one was broadcast last night, and next week should be the at-least-double finale.

I cannot fudging wait. Not least because then I'll be able to safely buy the inevitable Complete(ly) Lost BluRay boxset.

AFAIK, the final episode (2.5 hours) is actually on Sunday in the US, oddly enough.

I've not been reading Twitter or Facebook today just in case I get any spoilers from last night's episode!
