Oof. That's one of the Daedric items quests, too.

Daedric Barlow? Can't you just re-load the game Dave? Doesn't it keep like five save files on the go?

I think my time on horseback is measurable in seconds rather than minutes... just haven't found a need. Although I must admit it is useful having that special horse you may or may not come across following you around because he's hard as nails in a fight and distracts all the enemy attention from you.

Fortunately, it didn't interfere with the quest. I just had a curiously gyrating dog with me for a while.

Somehow I ended up with a free horse during the Civil War quest line. It has now died from an wolf. I can't say I particularly miss it

No

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The greybeards at least acknowledge that you've saved the world. Guards sometimes make reference to you doing so castigate you for releasing a dragon. So I summoned said dragon on their arse. and got castigated for shouting. The guy who helps you catch the dragon? Doesn't even recognise that you've come back from riding off on a dragons back too save the world.

No, in fact you cannot even use the same disc to start a new game and do the other stuff, you have to buy a new copy.

Yeah. Nothing really changes aside from having one extra shout. Makes you wonder why you bothered.

Started playing this late last night. The 'I'll just generate a character' soon developed into a 3 hour stint.

Very engrossing, love the openness of the world. The lighting and weather effects are lovely so far, some of the details are fantastic "ANTS ON A FUCKING STUMP!".

The combat feels wooly and not nearly as engaging as Dark Souls (but I knew it wouldn't be) but as an adventure game and successor to Oblivion it's seems superb so far.

Best thing for selling is to do all the thieves guild stuff. Gives you 4 buyers in the guild and one in each of the bigger towns with 4K each. Also most of the mages in Winterhold will buy magical stuff.

I apologise for being 200 years behind the times, but two incredibly amusing bugs in Oblivion I've found in the last couple of days:

1) Reading an edition of the Black Horse Courier that tells me that the Gray Fox has been caught, his identity revealed and that he was badly hurt in a drugs overdose and will never work again, while doing the last few missions of the Thieves Guild which involve the Gray Fox as the leader...

2) Having to break into the Arch-Mage's quarters and steal an icestaff, despite having completed the Mages Guild questline previously, so I am the Arch-Mage!

You need to be more supah boffo, Dave. I had no problem due to my high boffo rating.

I have heard that those people having problems with the Crimson Nirnroot are the ones that are most deficient in boffo.

Is there a pattern to fighting dragons? Or are they random encounters? I'd just left this one place and BLAMMO! there's a sky lizard wanting a fight. My conjured familiar can't fly, so it got taken down with a conjured fire thing from someone and arrows. And then I stuck an axe in its head for good measure.

I think it's a mix. Some dragons are set on the map and you'll get an icon if they are near by or you'll see them flying around. I've been through a dry spell, then took 8 dragon fights in a day as I walked from one side of the map to the other. I've ran away from some dragon flights though to come back later.

I spoke to Old Man Afterthought and he thinks that they all want to eat you, so it is better off running away. So it could just be naturally aggressive fauna. I seemed to consume their soul, too. He also said to not sell all the magical gear I've got, but take it to the enchanting table and learn the enchantments, as he's busy (on one of his characters) making fire proof armor. He also chastised me for not playing it enough.

I came across a dragon related bug the other day, I had 4 dragon souls sat there but couldn't unlock any more of the shouts I'd found, which was annoying. Then I killed another dragon, just outside Riften and then I could unlock everything I had to unlock. Stupid game.

I've started enchanting things recently, it's quite handy. I like the soul trap one, that's pretty useful. Still not a fan of magic, though...I haven't felt a real need for it yet, there was one time when I got attacked by half a dozen bandits all at once because I wasn't paying attention, just running round the wilderness, so I set them all on fire but that's it, really.

No I quite like the balance of being able to play the game with, without or with both magic and a good old fashioned beating. My magic and fighting are poor but together they're pretty good.

agreed, for me magic is essential, I always set fire to stuff before whacking it with my axe. which is enchanted with fire and I use the fire shout quite a lot. :D also without quick heal I would be lost

I don't think I've used an actual weapon since the tutorial. Occasionally summon one, but quickly get annoyed with hitty combat. For the most part I use ranged spells.

I hated the whole 'hold to charge, fire on release' part of magic.

I'm smithing dwarvern armour now, then enchanting it with magic regeneration and lower cost of conjugation spells. And making shields with health enchantments. This is going to make my level 13 Orc battle conjurer awesome. Lydia doesn't seem to want to wear much stuff I give her, though. My book says she is heavy armour, block, one handed but I haven't seen much if this.

I've got my smithery to level 91! Not even attempted enchanting yet but it does look da bomb when coupled with awesome armour.

I'm up to 41 or so now. My battle tactics are as follows:

1) Open door
2) Summon Flame Atrniach into room
3) Close door
4) wait for screaming to stop
5) Enter room and loot

Enchanting is quite fun. I disenchanted a ring of 20hp to learn the enchantment, then reenchanted it to give me, um, 2hp. My Orcish Axe is equipped with the soul stealer set to 1 second and I carry around lots of soul gems. It's good fun, give it a bash!

My 2p on selling stuff - Riften is good at lower levels, there's the grumpy woman with the armour stall and the jeweller in the marketplace, there's the Pawned Prawn (each has min 750 gold) and if you start the thieves guild quests there's a fence with at least 1000 gold. I traded my way to 100,000 gold just by nipping back there semi-regularly.

I need to look at taking up some skill levels & perks on enchanting. I've been concentrating on sneak at the moment especially the damage perks

I did think about doing that, but then HellsLament, the lawful evil Orc decided that it is better to be upfront an honest with people before staving their heads in. He's had enough trouble since the beginning, poor lad, and just wants what is best for himself, at minimal cost to others. This sneaking around stuff will just do orcs more disservice.

Played some more last night picking up loads of side quests and joined The Companions.

The loading times in some areas are really annoying, especially when in a town and you... go in a building... go down a level... go back up... leave a building...

Killed my first Dragon, felt far too easy.

Yeap. For some reason Bears and Yetis are incredibly hard yet masssoooove dragons are easy. Alas this doesn't last too long the white and I think black dragons are more of a challenge.

That's what I thought, the first couple were and location plays a big part of how easy it is. Those frost dragons are pathetic, I basically just stood in front of one and shot it in the face until it was dead. Cost me minimal health, I didn't even try avoiding it.

Then I found a blood dragon, out in the open. And ran away. Or tried, until it killed me within 6 seconds. What a cunt he was.

Killed my first troll last night. Fire Atrionarch thingy shot fire at it, as did I. Then I hit it in the face with my axe.

Having real problems carting stuff around, I'm almost always up to my weight limit.
