I don't mind. I've just realised that I've worked out the volume of my bathroom as I know the throughput of the new extractor fan, so I can set the timer to the minimum needed to change the air twice, and I'm considering getting a distress flare to test this. I really, really need to get out more.

I wouldn't use a distress flare dude, they're a bit like a firework and not really an indoor one. You can buy smoke tablets from any plumbers merhcants, they use them to test chimneys and whatnot.

Not the magnesium ones, the red or blue smoke ones. besides, how dangerous can it be?

Just make sure you record it, and instruct any next of kin to post the video on here so we can see what happens.

Like the time the BBC exploded Anthea Turner for shits and giggles.

Also, put the kettle on, because you'll possibly be getting visits from the police anti-terrorism unit and then the fire brigade fairly swiftly after neighbours see copious quantities of red smoke issuing from your bathroom window.

The bathroom window will be shut, as otherwise it won't go through the fan in the ceiling.

Don't worry, it'll be fine.

I thought there has to at least be a secureable ladder of some sort, which is what we had in our 1 fire exit office we used to have.

I haven't got a Flikr account but I would like one... I've just tried to sign up but it says I can't without getting a Yahoo mail account first.

I don't want one of these.

Is it possible to get a flikr account without a Yahoo account? I think not.

Not since Yahoo merged the signins way back when. Just think of it as a generic Yahoo account. You don't need to ever use the email for anything.

Nobody has done an adaptor for that format yet though. And most importantly, nobody has tested it. The SDHC path is tried and tested. You use SDHC for everyday work, and keep an 8GB Sony card for the slow mo shots.

Of course, why Sony are still charging so much is a mystery. They were reporting it would be far cheaper than it actually is when they launched the cameras. I can only assume there are production problems with getting memory that works fast enough.

Get out of town. They are charging that much because there are plenty of people out there who simply pay it; either not realised they can use third party cards, or shit scared of filming an event and finding the third party card has crapped out.

While I agree they will get what they can, they actually did make specific statements about the price of the memory. And now everybody is using 3rd party cards.

They've just launched a 32gb card for 800 quid + VAT which gets you 100 minutes. That's costing you 8 quid a minute. Or 1 Pro HDV tape per minute. Although granted the flash is reusable you'd have to use it alot of times to compete with tape. And remember Sony are still rolling out new tape cameras.

Basically the Sony solution costs 10 times what the 3rd party solution costs. It's not unusual for Sony to be charging more for "pro" formats but I can't see many people spending 800 quid per card, even broadcasters in these cash strapped times. The fact that this Aussie company are making a killing on the adaptors seems to suggest to me that Sony are missing out on revenue. Also cryptic statements from Sony saying they have tested the 3rd party solutions and they are unsupported suggests to me that even Sony know they can't come out and say the 3rd party solutions don't work or could be unreliable.

I'm watching a documentary about legal drugs and the music selection is reminding me of a programme about the North Sea oil rigs I tried to watch last night which must have had at least a hundred songs throughout its entirety, very few of which seemed to fit the situation or add anything to the programme at all. It was very jarring.

Congratulations. What did you win (other than pride and bragging rights)?

Why thank you all very much! We won £60 - vouchers rather than crisp £20 notes, but my tri-loving teammates (ahem) can use those and bung me the wonga. No one should mention that the thing cost £99 to enter, so we're down on the deal. No.

And a good point Curiosity - as I chanted "second" last night, it did sound a little hollow, whereas "not only not last but - crikey" had felt good earlier. But first place cheated by being very good, beat us in each discipline, 25 secs on the swim, 9 minutes on the bike, 3 on the run, so us gaining 11 seconds on the transitions didn't quite make up the difference.

Wiki-me-do:

Quote:
The short-lived Saturday morning children's show UP2U was a flop, and is chiefly remembered retrospectively for a motorcycle stunt that went wrong, which later resulted in an internet rumour that Turner had died. Turner was to stand forward of a truck, the motorcycle would do its stunts, and finally pyrotechnics would be ignited. Unfortunately there was a communications breakdown; at the last minute it was decided that Anthea would sit on the back of the truck, she would also take her cue from somebody behind the camera which, unknowingly to the camera crew, became the same cue used to ignite the pyrotechnics. Turner suffered burns and temporary hearing loss, which led to her successful lawsuit against the BBC. The video of the accident can be seen on various web sites.[4]

Ah gotcha. It can be a bit irritating, on the other hand Adam Curtis documentaries have music all the way through and it works really well.
