today I have been buying more dvds I dont need or will watch but they were bargains is my excuse I think its an addiction though.

anyway amazon have got a sale.

I bought 4 film bowsext of Ingmar Bergman films for £8.97
and also Woody Allen Collection 1 for £10.97 which contains, Bananas/Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask/Sleeper/Love And Death/Annie Hall.

theres also another 3 woody allen sets like that for the same price but I really am not that daft and havent got that much money.

I've taken the plunge on the Twin Peaks boxset, so I'll be able to answer any questions when it turns up.

CUS, from what I can find out about it, it's only the writing on the back of the box that's not in English, and everything else is indistinguishable from a UK release (if there was one).
At a glance, the extras seem to tie up with the Region 1 edition, but I haven't compared them in detail.

Lace, even if there isn't a stereo English option, I think the English 5.1 would still sound ok. Have you got any dvds that you can try out and set the audio track to 5.1 and see if they still sound alright?

This has turned up today if anyone is interested, although it's now gone up to £29.99.

Everything on the outside of the box is in English apart from the classification details on the bottom of the box, and there's a description on the back of the box that takes up about the top third that is only in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish (possibly the languages aren't called this, but you know what I mean).

The main description of what you actually get on the dvds is all in English.

There's some more Scandinavian cert stuff on the discs (as well as what looks like some Spanish?), but the desctiptions of what's on each disc is in English.

I'll update when I actually get round to watching one of the discs.

Update!

You put a disc in and it asks you what language you want, the default is English, so you just have to hammer the button. Then you get your typical Play All, Choose Episose, setup type stuff.
Audio options are English 5.1, English 2.0, German, Italian, Spanish
Subs are in English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish or Swedish.

That is all.

I'd give up if I were you, powerplaydirect are way reliable, and for £1.79 more it's worth it. Just cancel the GE order.

maybe...

but three of us at Peoww bought it and all three of us hated it. My issues were the confusing graphics, horribly slidey controls, the amount of damage each player could take (far too much, like Powerstone meets Gears of War) and the repetitive gameplay.

I really really hate the game!

Which one? The one where Julian Clary was having miles of sharp wire inserted into his rectum on national television to revive his career, or the one about Richard Gaywood the paedophile politician?

Rock Band game and instruments -- £130.99 from Dixons.

http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/d ... oid=-28623

BUT! If you buy a 60GB 360 at the same time (£180) you can use voucher code XPLAY25 to knock 25% off the price of accessories -- which, awesomely, includes the Rock Band bundle meaning you get the whole lot for the princely sum of £276.73. However the voucher expires at midnight tomorrow and it's apparently limited to the first 60 so better get your skates on if you want to take advantage.

Hello all from the new guy.

I'm looking for a new laptop as I have finally found a reason to change my Compaq Presario 2100 2.0ghz celery (circa 2003 vintage). It's Eve Online.

Anyway. Laptop deals. Anyone seen any recently? I've seen the ones on HUKD but wondered if anyone had seen any others.

Bottles of Pepsi, 2 for 1 in Lidl.

Went in to buy in bulk and ended up saving about 20 quid. That said it was £1.45 a bottle which seemed steep, but when you take the BOGOF into account it's more reasonable.

A refurb Macbook Pro beyond your budget? They run Windows as sweet as a nut and you'll be pushed to find a better Dell/Acer etc. Check out the tiny tiny link in the Apple store through to the refurb section.

If money is tight Acer do decent models. You'll want to make sure that the laptop has a proper GPU though rather than some integrated tat.

Erm... In a word, yes! I'm really looking south of £500, even the refurbed "bargain" Macs are wielding four figure prices at me menacingly!

I have it in my mind that Acers aren't good buys due to poor quality, but given I haven't bought a laptop in ages perhaps I am out of date on this?

I've seen Mr Gaywood's Dell XPS which looks sweet, but I think he had a mega deal on that which I can't expect to replicate.

I just sold my 18 month old mid-range Acer and it was lovely. Barring the naff integrated graphics card (my own fault because a full GPU option was available). Yes the build quality can't touch the Mac but what do you expect for a third of the price? I will say that the Acer did feel a tad flimsy but it really wasn't a problem. Nothing every broke or snapped off and the screen never broke in two.

That said the PSU did blow up 20 minutes before the Ebay auction was due to end, but that was branded Lite-On and a replacement was easy to get hold of and didn't break the bank. But likewise I've seen PSU's go on all sorts of laptops.

God you're such a Steve Jobs fanboy!

Acer are ok too I think. My housemate has one that's been going for years now. I agree about graphics up to a point- I was surprised that my little intel GMA950 based netbook could run world of warcraft, but proper is better. I wouldn't buy Asus, though, and I would look for Core 2 Duo based intel rather than AMD, but that's just me.

The Intel chips run cooler and faster. As pointed out elsewhere on the forum today, AMD are so far behind since the advert of dual core that they aren't worth bothering with. Cheap and cheerful.

Proper GPU is better as more and more apps use the GPU. Depends on what you are doing. Certainly with my apps I hit a brick wall with renders taking several hours due to the lack of GPU. But for standard stuff integrated is OK.

As for a Steve Jobs fanboy, can't stand the man. However the Pro models are the one thing that Apple have got right, although the Macbook Pro is overpriced by about 300 quid. It is however design perfection and I had a load of Windows fanboys wetting themselves when I showed them Parallels run XP on the OSX desktop in the week.

PGR4 £12.93 at Asda. A really good game that seems to have been overlooked by my excellent chums here (so much so that I traded it in after I'd had enough of the single player as no one else had it). More bargs on the site include Saints Row for £9.73 and Beautiful Katamari for £14.73.

They also have Call of Duty 2 for £9.73, so if you're a fan of CoD4 and don't have this, I think it's a must.

There's no excuse at under a tenner. In fact, I may buy it again.
