Hmm. I'm attending a Twitter meet in San Francisco on Jan 23rd with 108 confirmed attendees and another 20+ "maybe" people. So are you quite sure about that?

Edit -- and the planning for this meet began after the planning for this Manchester one.

I think you fail to grasp sarcasm, sometimes.

She'll be there, but I've been thinking about going to this event since before we started going out.

Fab Cafe is a late evening and night venue. I propose we start drinking earlier in the day somewhere else. Preferably a pub with lots of seats, not too expensive drinks, and quiz machines so I can be antisocial if you all start boring me.

I'm also considering going up on Friday afternoon. Possibly for posh eats, but if nobody else is then I might organise to meet my old Uni friends.

I was thinking about heading down a day or so early, I've only been to Manchester once* before & wouldn't mind actually seeing the place this time. So aye, I'm interested in this.
*Was there less than an hour, stopped to drop off a mate on my way South.

It's a nice place to wander around, I wouldn't mind going again. Good curry restaurants too.

Oh, and there's an industrial museum full of working steam engines and that - I think I mentioned that?

Several comments:

1) ROAR at my house, obv :attitude:

2) Curio is right, there needs to be more pubbage or general footling in the afternoon/evening, including food, we can't just start at Fab Cafe.

3) Despite it being stated that booking at the Stockport Premier Inn is best, I'm still not sure you might not all be better off booking in Manchester instead so you can stagger back there. Unless you really really want to come to mine after, but you won't all fit in.

4) How did myp know the number for my local cab firm? 8)

Lots of curry restaurants is not the same as good curry - the good ones aren't in Rusholme.

That's true, but then I generally don't particularly like Curry anyway.

Also: the name Rusholme reminds me of Half-Life 2 and zombies. Ugh.

Fuck steam engines.

So, what pubs are good in Manchester? We need real ale, not too loud, and big tables or seating area.

WRT going back to Bl1nd K1d's house, if you have no intention of doing so, it'd be better to book a hotel in Manchester, yes. Still, I reckon we can squeeze everyone in. It'd be cosy, but fun!

That has actually re-opened (or will re-open any weekend now) under a new name... Area 51 I think? So we could go there ;)

The best pubs with good real ale type stuff are in the Northern Quarter, but they tend to be small little niches so despite their awesomeness they may be out of bounds to us due to our large numbers. But maybe we could just suck it and see?

If you are looking to end up at Fab, then around GMex/Deansgate you've got

Knott Bar
Peveril of the Peak
Britons Protection (Whisky a go-go)
Temple of Convenience
Alberts Shed/Dukes 92

Food wise is the all you can eat Chinese Buffet under Tai Wu. Plus Wetherspods, Springbok etc etc if you really must. That end of town as also handy for buses out to Curry Mile.

Beam engines are dull once you've seen one of them, though.

Am I misunderstanding, or are you really wanting to be in Manchester on the same Saturday night as all of us but not actually hang around with any of us on said Saturday night? Couldn't you NOT meet us pretty much any Saturday you choose? 8)

I have no idea what you're asking. ?:| I was hoping to go to manchester to see someone in the near future. So I thought I could possibly go to meet you lot while on the same trip. I ... I really don't know how to express it more clearly than that, sorry.

Pliss - as fun as the Temple of Convenience is, we ain't all fitting in it at once!

Last time I did a ninternetz meet in Manc we loaded in the Moon Under Water for hours before descending on the Fab Cafe. It's cheap, but also full of undesireables. That said, what are we if not that?

I'm happy with whatever. For those hotelling it'd probably be smarter to stay in Manc really, as if the only reason we'd be off to Stockport is to go round Alberto's gaff then going all that way to not go to his seems odd.

I was just thinking about stuff near Fab. Besides, if we are down that end of Deansgate where the Moon is, then Sinclairs for the cheap Sam Smiths would be a good 'un.

I would advise staying in Mcr though, even though the Stockport one is five mins walk from my house. Staying in the City Centre gives much more flexibility on what to do at night. There is also the Travelodge in the City Centre (next to the Frog and Bucket).
