This just arrived in the mail. Thanks a lot, chap! I'll get this song export thing done then whack it in the post either later today or first thing tomorrow morning.

And genuine LOL at you whacking your business card in there, you sneaky little pimptastic devil.

Looks like Roy Orbison is coming to RB soon:

http://kotaku.com/5116529/roy-orbison-c ... -rock-band

Quote:
Rock Band is branching out. First it went a little bit country, and now it's going a little bit Big O, with CMT.com accidentally announcing that Roy Orbison will be coming to Rock Band.

Teasing the December 26 episode of Top 20 Countdown on Country Music Television, the website says "Plus, get details on how you can rock out with The Soul of Rock and Roll with the upcoming release of the Roy Orbison Pack for Rock Band 2 consoles".

Seeing as there's a giant Rock Band ad next to the piece, and seeing as CMT is an MTV channel (MTV being the publishers of Rock Band), there's little reason to doubt the validity of the snippet.

I want more Siouxsie. I also want some Ting Tings as I think the drumming would be fun in that. Particularly That's Not My Name. Sisters of Mercy still required as well.

Spent a lot of time drumming today in both Rock Band 2 and GH:WT. I still think RB2 is the better game. Also: ow.

Cheapest I've seen is £35 on Currys and PC World's websites.

I've just started playing RB1 and even that seems to be a better game as well. However, Guitar Hero Metallica is going to give you the opportunity to plug in a second kick pedal to the drumkit, which is going to be T3H 4W3S0M3ZZZ!!!!

But knowing the GH guys, you've probably got to buy the whole GH:WT band kit again just to get another kick pedal.

I don't like Metallica. But I don't half love playing their songs. Just a shame this isn't a Rock Band add-on; I can't bring myself to put in my GH:WT disc.

I expect you'll just have to buy the extra pedal, plug the extra one into the kit and the existing one into the new pedal. I don't think even Activision could justify you having to buy a whole new kit as the game's supposed to come out before June.

I don't understand the hate for WT. I'll concede that the Rock Band games are better, but I've really enjoyed the WT tracklist and it's not a bad game at all, imo.

i only played both games with guitar and vocals. The guitar playing is much more fun on RB just because the note charts are better. There's not overly complicated stuff just to piss you off. The vocals are also more accurate and activating the star power/overdrive is fun and not annoying. Comparing the tracklists is a joke. I also prefer the presentation on RB.

The only thing i prefer in GHWT is that you don't need to repeat songs in career mode.

Fair enough. I have to say that I prefer the drumming on WT, but that might be because I've got the kit that goes with it. The kit is fantastic.

No need to get personal. Most of the songs that are in WT are in RB2 anyway, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I prefer the drumming (and the kit) in GH:WT, too, but the track list sends me to sleep; I haven't unlocked the entire list, though, so I'm only moaning at the songs I've got so far having only done up to the Tool concert. I wish Rock Band had Tool, and more than three of their tracks.

I like the idea of open notes on the bass, as well, though I wish that extended to guitar. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't. There are some great additions in World Tour, like the slide pad or one, but I still see Rock Band as very much the better game, if only for its massively superior interface and download content.

If Rock Band had: the orange cymbal, open notes, slidey slidey fun, neck tapping for solos and Tool, I'd stomp on the GH:WT disc quite happily.

Their songs seems to suit the games so well. I really enjoyed doing the Metallica challenge in RB2 the other day.

Although there are a fair few songs in both games, I find that when a song crops up that I don't know, I'm more inclined to like the unknowns in RB2 than in GH:WT.

Most songs on RB are classic songs from respected and established bands. Obviously there's still songs from teeny bands like Paramore to appeal to all audiences. But in RB its a minority, and in GH, there are way too many songs from 2008 from bands i never heard of. Obviously i'm open minded and i judge this only after hearing these songs, but almost all are crap. I suspect there's some fishy stuff involving GH and music companies, but that's just me and my conspiracy theories.

And i could just say that GHWT has 3 tool songs.

I can't comment about the unknowns in RB2, but there's quite a few songs in WT that I hadn't heard before and was pleasantly surprised by.

I don't know if I'm being 'special' with the slide pad, or maybe mine is broken, but it just doesn't seem right. Occasionally with your finger on say the yellow section, the green will flicker on. This obviously ends any streak you happen to be on and much gnashing of teeth occurs. I've taken to just using the normal frets for the slide sections.

I usually can't move my hand to the slide-pad quickly enough to bother with the slidey sections anyway, but I do like tapping.

I just use the normal frets anyway, it took me long enough to get used to using them without throwing extra stuff in to confuse me. :P I much prefer the WT guitar to any of the RB or other GH ones I've used though.

actually there was a song that had a 2 note slidey section in the middle of a long fretty solo. Who, this side of Brian May could move from fret to slide and back that quick? Hmm Neversoft?

Apparently only the "bigger" Currys stores get any RB stuff in at all, and my local one, large though it may be, is not counted among the mighty. I have no idea if any of the others in the local-ish area on the store finder are "bigger" either (unlike with Argos who have the "Extra" tag for their mighty stores, even though the Argos Extra at the same retail park is smaller than the "small" Currys :S )
So I dunno where to get RB2. Argos haven't even heard of RB2. Online for £40 seems the most likely.

Insane, isn't it. I find using my strumming hand to do the slide sections is easiest, though, seeing as you don't have to strum them anyway. Finding the strum-bar is a lot less difficult than finding your left hand's placement on the fret buttons!

I started to rub the skin of my fingers off from too much of that slidey fun though, and tapping every song instead of strumming really doesn't help, either.

Nowhere in Maidstone had Rock Band 2 in stock today as far as I could see, with only a few copies of the original dotted about.

Rubbish.

Once you get used to where exactly the slide bar is on the guitar, you can do it, but it still takes a hell of a lot of practice. It's not something you'll be able to do first time you play the song, as you won't expect it to be there, but on multiple playthroughs you learn where it's going to be and it gets easier.

It probably helps that I can play real guitar.

yeah, as I think I've mentioned before, moving my hand up and down the fret was a problem for me. I been forcing myself to move my hand more though (don't have much choice with the red-blue chords) in preparation for the inevitable leap to Hard. Actually, one of the songs pulled a green-blue chord on me the other day. Didn't see that coming.

Just wait for green-red-blue to green-yellow-blue chords. Plus runs from orange down to green via yellow.

yeah, as I think I've mentioned before, moving my hand up and down the fret was a problem for me. I been forcing myself to move my hand more though (don't have much choice with the red-blue chords) in preparation for the inevitable leap to Hard. Actually, one of the songs pulled a green-blue chord on me the other day. Didn't see that coming.

As I may have mentioned before, going from Medium to Hard on Rock Band is significantly easier than doing the same in any Guitar Hero game (or RB2, for that matter). And once you've got the knack, it becomes second nature. I was stuck on Medium for all three GH's and the first 6 months of playing Rock Band, but now my hand pretty much shifts without my having to think about it at all, leading to more of those ultra-cool GH/RB moments where you realise your fingers have played something complex without the slightest input from my conscious mind.

Re: track list - RB is more to my taste musically than either GHWT or RB2 and, more importantly, it's got more songs in it that I already knew (which is much more of an issue in a game you've got to sing in than one that's purely guitar-based). YMMV, obv.

RB's ace in the hole is the DLC, of course. Apart from the summer lull last year Harmonix have done a great job of getting a good variety of really good stuff out there, with more available every week.

Haha, that was brilliant! I've only just remembered it, so shows how drunk I was.

I still don't dare play this on guitar again. It killed my left hand. :'(

I just use the normal frets anyway, it took me long enough to get used to using them without throwing extra stuff in to confuse me. :P I much prefer the WT guitar to any of the RB or other GH ones I've used though.

Even though I've just got world tour, I'm still using the GH3 guitar to play everything. It just 'feels' nicer than the others.
The RB strat feels horrible and cheap, but it looks like I'm going to need it's solo buttons if I'm ever going to get past Flirtin' with Disaster. :(

Hmm.. it does sound pretty crap from that review. I think I'll wait till I can get it cheaply and import the songs into RB2.
