It was either spend £1200 repairing it and risk it happening again, or get shot of it and upgrade. So far, I'm not regretting my choice.

Mine burns oil like a bastard. I have to top it up with a few liters pretty much every week. Valve stem seals apparently, but I can't be arsed to get it fixed :p

Sheesh, mine wasn't that bad - had to top it up after every 400-450 miles, so it'd go roughly three to four weeks ;)

What do you drive anyway?

205 GTI. It's a known problem, the seals go at around 70k and mine's done about 78k now. Funnily enough, it's been burning oil since about... 70k :)

I'll get it fixed and sell it on soon. It's in excellent nick apart from that. Had it nearly three years now and I'm looking for something to replace it. Don't know what to go for, though. So many options!

I'm thinking;
Porsche 944 S2
Integra Type R DC2
Clio 182 Trophy
Impreza or an Evo IV
Elise

I just can't bloody well decide! Part of me wants something with a ridiculous turbo strapped to it, part of me wants something naturally aspirated with a bit of rarity. You see so many Imprezas and Evos about, I'm just not sure they're for me.

Of all of those I'd go for an Elise. Assuming you get one with the same VVTL-i engine as my T-Sport that is. There's a reason it was voted Engine of the Year in it's category ;)

Only problem with an Elise is that you're likely to get a slipped disc getting in and out of the bugger ;)

Aye! To be honest, in my price range, it'd be the S1 Elise with a good old Rover K-Series in it for headgasket failure fun. Getting in and out would be problem as well at 6'2". BUT, they're an absolute pleasure to drive and by all accounts an excellent progression from the 205.

I'd go for an Elise too, not least because it will remain affordable to run when the Evos and Scoobys are all falling off the roads. Mainly because they're excellent fun though.

I made a decision today though, I decided that I no longer care about cars. I'm thinking of getting a tiny diesel powered one, that's how much I don't care any more.

With precisely 0 penalties, that's unheard of.

Immensely chuffed.

Oh, and no assists at all. No traction control, no stability control, no anti lock brakes, manual gears.

That's mega brill :)

Yes. Shooting Stars was a one trick pony repeated every week. Reeves and Mortimer is superior in every way.

When I worked for (not ITV - Ed) I stumbled across a Beta SP tape in our stash that had an episode of their latest series on it (making it a good 5 years old even then). A chucklesome half hour was then had at the licence payers expense. Suckers!

Oooh, I almost forgot!

Image

Today's bad smell is future Mrs Chinnyhill's car, after I drove through a load of silage that had been dumped on the A303.

Presumably someone had pressed the wrong lever spraying a 300 yard section of road and hedge in shit (Father Ted style), or there had been the smelliest accident ever. Either way, you can still smell the car at a considerable distance hours later. And probably everyone else who drove through there today stinks as well.

It really stinks. Like week old shit and sick in one.

So I vacuum the house and sweep the kitchen floor at Mali Towers. I then decided to mop the floor so fill bucket up and begin.

30 minutes later, the floor is still as wet as it was, despite how often I wring the mop out. Confused, I keep going. 10 minutes later, I decide to move bucket. Even more water appears.

There's a hole in my bucket, delilah, delilah....

I'd start with The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer. Bang Bang was very good but a bit too reliant on smut, Big Night Out is good but definitely an acquired taste, but Smell is sublime.

That's my office computer. It took me about five years, but I finally persuaded my boss to get me a Mac a few months ago.

Hurrah for Macs :smug:

I like Fred, he's goofy, but George is just so lovely, I like his little legs.

Cute little mascots! Tell Mrs Rev Owen that Ravelery, once you get your invite, is full of free amigurumi patterns. I have attached a lovely amigurumi teddy bear pattern that she may care for. :smug:

I like that the file has been downloaded 4 times. Like there are at least 4 BETEO'ers secretly really into amigurumi and all pretending to be really into videogames and iPhones, but secretly sitting there crocheting little teddy bears, hiding behind the monitor out of the way of the prying eyes of the boss. Got to get your daily crochet fix, eh lads? I am betting it is Mr Chris, Zardoz, Comical and Grim...

I may take it up again at some point when I'm not unable to see straight from lack of sleep.

I used to have a good friend at uni that could knit and crochet. He also played for a South African Rugby team for five years.

He went to university in South Africa, but could only go and play sports there on scholarship by taking up another course, so he chose textiles or some kind of home ec. Either way he had all of these multicoloured doilies on the back of the sofas of his student house, which he had crocheted himself, which was so excellent.

Zardoz: Knitting scarves is the best way to cure yourself of knitting - so boring, back and forward, back and forward... the best things to knit are hats - quick, and interesting because you are adapting the shape, and fast because you are always going round and round with no purl stitches, and knit stitches are much faster. Also, as you get to the top, the rows become really fast as you decrease so rapidly, so finishing them is great fun.

I've known MetalAngel for, oh, going on ten years now. Do you honestly think I'm going to go anywhere near any rags he might be holding? That's covered in Knowing Metal Angel 101 man. "Do not inhale sharply from any objects on his person".

It's pointless inviting the Gaywood anywhere, he won't go if it's more than 15 miles from where he lives. I don't know why, but I suspect it's because his wife won't let him :DD

You been stalking Sandra Dickenson again?

Meanwhile I have the loan of a VW Fox. As I started to fuel it suddenly occurred to me that it had better take unleaded or I was fucked. Luckily it did.

Never heard of the Fox before. Presumably the next model in the range is the VW Milf?

Mine has no markings and no manual either but I'm assuming it's the base model 1.2.

It's not bad actually. Usually these tiny cars have shit gearboxes but this one is much closer to the tight gearbox on the Golf. It also doesn't loll around and around town it's fairly nippy.

On faster roads it's happy at motorway speeds but naturally is a bugger to get up to speed when joining the road.

Built in Brazil apparently.

Anyway, so far for a small car it's not bad. On a days driving, 819 bananas.

Easiest way to see if it's an urban: Does the back seat split? If not, it's vanillla.

My only comment is that the revs seem a bit high, but it terms of fuel consumption it seems pretty awesome so far. I've done nearly 200 miles on less than half a tank so far.

Yeah, I stuck a tenner in and it was pretty much a third of a tank. Since I don't know when my car will be ready I'll be doing lots of small fill-ups.

In terms of revs, small engines tend to need it to feel responsive or for other technical reasons I don't understand.

Just watching the 125cc race from last weekend on Eurosport. Damn Valentino Rossi is a good commentator, 2 nanseconds after someone went off he's straight in with "I think that's actually an engine failure putting him off, watch the clutch hand" then spends the rest of the race being absolutely dead on with all observations.
