We had a bit of a decadent holiday 3 years ago to St Lucia with Virgin.

Flew on their business class and amassed some of their Air Miles, they emailed me to say the account was going to be closed due to no activity and we would loose the miles

So I called them and converted the miles to Virgin Wine credit, got £100 then set up an account in my wife's name as I already had one which gave me a welcome £40 credit

So 16 bottles of Rose wine for £17 cost to me delivered, just over £1 a bottle :DD

Where did you stay? We stayed at Rendezvous and the hotel on the bay by the harbour. I liked the holiday but I don't think I would go back: The pan handlers on the beach were an annoyance, the poverty was massive and I felt bad about that but the staff were friendly.

Bay Gardens Beach resort in Rodney Bay, had the same issue with pan handlers but they left us alone mostly after the 3rd day! All the beaches in St Lucia are public so you do get sellers all the time, Sandals and other resorts get around it by building hotels on coves so without a boat you can't get to the beach at the font of the hotel easily.

Liked it but doubt I will go back, mostly due to the fact I don't need to put my son on a 10 hour flight for some sun and sea!

That's the one! We were there.

Post subject:  Re: The 'Yay!' thread

I had some odd experiences there. One morning we went jogging down the beach and up into the woods. We ran out of path and turned around, as we passed the road to a house on our left 2 huge dogs came running down barking.

We ran as fast as we could onto the beach where we found several local men naked in the sea having a wash!

One day whilst walking to the town, a local tat seller who had offered me his souvenirs each time suddenly added hookers and pot to the menu, on a Sunday!

I also took Stirling travellers cheques and found the exchange rate to be better than Stirling itself?!

All in all a good holiday last one before our son arrived so plenty of late nights and laughs.

Did you climb the Piton mountain? We did was a hard climb only 50% of our group made it up, there were several badly hung over Americans who dropped out at 50% up and another guy who's knee went at around the same place

Remember the climb up killing me whilst my wife found it easier, but coming down the roles where reversed!

MrsA was up the stick so major exertions were not on offer. I observed the Pitons whilst drinking rum on a catamaran returning from the volcano. Which is probably the best sentence I will ever write

We did that trip as well, was a great day out. I never drunk the punch or rum, they did a local white rum that was 80% ABV

That stuff was used to make the punch so I always gave it a miss!

It was awesome. I got quite drink. Jumping off the boat helped a bit though. There were some hotties on the front in tiny bikinis. It was a good day.

On my own this weekend as my wife is in Dublin at her parents

So took Friday off and ordered a skip, have spent the last 2 days getting rid of all the shite in the house, sheds, garden and garage.

Everything is tidy and its amazing how much space we have now, cost me £300 for an 8 yard skip but well worth it

Time for some TV and food before family back tomorrow afternoon

Everything's coming up Lewie.

I have been on crutches/bedridden for a couple of months from a knee injury, but it's mostly healed now. Still taking it easy, doing a little walking, swimming and physio, but I'm past the worst of it.

I also thought I was pretty skint, with SavyGamer earnings slowing down over the last 6 months, a few hundred less a month than I'd usually hope for, enough to be a worry. Then I checked one of the retailers I link to quite a lot, and it turns out there was a bug or error or something, and payments had been halted for the last ~5 months, and they have £2000 waiting to pay me once I corrected some info!

I hired one when I cleaned out my garage but that is because it was being knocked down and replaced so yeah, there was a fair amount of bulky junk.

Post subject:  Re: The 'Yay!' thread

I'd probably hire a skip like that if I had a decent amount of stuff to get rid of; though that's because I'm lazy and the idea of chucking everything in a big bin that then just disappears with all the stuff in it through no effort on my part appeals to me.

After 8 years of doing predominantly early shifts (7:30-3:30, 8-4), I've decided it no longer suits my lifestyle so last week changed to 10-6. It's only early days, but last week I got four nights of 8+ hours sleep which is completely unheard of in the last 18 months or so. I feel much happier so far.

I wonder if I'll feel the same in the summer...

It is if you start at 10 and finish at 6, but I imagine most people will start at 9 and finish at 5.

You actually had to skip over the answer to that to get to the bit you did read.

8am-4am. Yes, perhaps 'shift' is not entirely accurate (although I have done my fair share of those too). I've moved to 10am-6pm and I'm getting tons more sleep. Seems to suit my lifestyle a lot better nowadays.

I still do on call one week in every six, but it should be better for that too.

We had a lot of crap to get rid off, there was a sofa left by the guy we bought the house from that we couldn't remove without cutting up. He also left 2 single beds one of which we threw in the skip as well as replacing the mattress from the other. We had also accumulated a lot of furniture which we didn't need, thankfully we bought most of our stuff at house clearance sales so it owed us nothing really.

Then there was a lot of garden crap that had been building up over the last few years (plant pots, soil bags, some broken furniture) I filled the skip in a day although I had prepared by moving a lot of bit items to the garage and front of the house.

Tell me about, it my brother who lives in Leeds was enjoying telling me how much cheaper his skip was! I did try the man with a van solution, but they weren't that much cheaper and they want to know exactly what and how much stuff you want to get rid of. I would say 30% of the stuff I put in the skip wasn't planned it went in there after I walked the entire house looking everywhere for unwanted stuff

Remember how I've always wanted to record a Christmas single? No? Well clearly you're not paying attention.

Anyway, I've been asked by a local radio station to play drums on a version of 'Wish it could be Christmas everyday' that they're doing for charity.

Something else to tick off my bucket list.

I'm not basing this purely on the actual song itself, but the ubiquitousness of it. You can't fucking get away from it. It's dogshit and it's played EVERYWHERE.
