I really, really like that in the solo singing career, when GG&HT comes up the game cuts out all the guitar wankery so you only have to do the bits that you get to, you know, do something in. Same thing happens in Foreplay/Long Time.

Really obvious stuff, but it's that sort of nice little touch that shows Harmonix are just streets ahead of Neversoft in making this sort of game.

Hey, that's awesome! I had no idea it did that because I'm not allowed to sing. Court order.

Flirtin' With Disaster is head-and-shoulders above the rest of the tier in terms of difficulty. All the others just need you to hang on to Overdrive for tricky bits rather than trying to maximise your score.

Green Grass & High Tides is a bit like Freebird in GH2 - not technically the most difficult song in the game, but very testing of your concentration and stamina.

I'm not sure I like the idea of songs being truncated if there's no vocals in parts.

I love drumming that, it has a different beat to most of the other songs in RB.

GG&HT has solos that go on for about seven minutes, mind.

I dunno, there's a song in GH:WT (the name escapes me) where the vocalist says a few words at the start and then fucks off for 5 minutes.

It is if you've finished the level you're playing and are now faced with a seven-minute unskippable cutscene before you can do anything else.

Yeah, I noticed. I managed to get through everything else first time, but after 3 attempts at Flirtin' with Disaster I'm getting worse (73%, 74% and 64%). I seem to have a real mental block on the hopo bits.

There are two parts of the solo where you're asked to put together a pretty long string of descending triplets of notes - the one right at the start you've got Overdrive to help you through, but the one at the end knackered me absolutely every time. I must have tried it / dicked about in practice mode every day for about three weeks. Eventually I managed to hit enough grey phrases in the solo to get myself a second burst of Overdrive and combined with a slightly better-than-usual hit rate I just about squeezed through.

You're almost definitely less useless than I am though, so it probably won't be as much of a slog for you.

It's not as brutal, frustrating and unfair as Raining Blood was in GH3, but I haven't got 20 more hard-earned points in my gamerscore.

Well, my other aim at the moment is to 5* GH2 & 3 on medium, so I guess I'm going to have some more fun with Raining Blood soon (I failed that on easy the first time I played it :( ).

If you can complete Guitar hero 3 on hard you can pretty much complete Rock Band on expert.

I used to think like that, too, but every time I go back to it I drag myself a little bit further to the finish line.

I know what you mean, there were many times I was going to give up on Rock Band hard, but I dragged myself through and I never thought I'd get past anything on the final tier, but then I managed 4 of them first time out. I think it's just a question of how much time I want to devote to them and whether it's still fun.

I can't see me even starting GH2 or 3 on hard unless I think I'll be able to see it through though.

I had to give up on 5-starring the mediums at one point, as it was becoming utterly tedious. I started on hard, did about 2 or 3 tiers. I then went back to the mediums and blitzed the last four or five in one go each. :)

I've just started playing some of the top tier stuff on rock band 2.

Testament-Souls of black is an awesome tune, and should be great fun on bass as well. Not too hard but a bit twidlling.

Just played Judas Priest-Painkiller and Im a bit suprised I got through it first go, its got quite a big solo with lots of insanely fast notes, saves by star power.

also SOAD-Chop Suey which is absolutely hateful to play and just about manageable.

Im about to try metallica-battery :metul:

And you've always got the option of picking and choosing individual songs for the regular individual-song price, anyway.

Yeah I know, I just can't see myself ever buying a whole album because there's always duff songs on albums (in the main). It'd have to be one I really loved.

I'd have perhaps gone for Nevermind if SLTS wasn't missing.

Eurogamer on Rock Band DLC sales:

Quote:
Rock Band players around the world have now downloaded more than 28 million songs. As reported by Shacknews, there are currently 345 songs in the Rock Band store from 239 different artists. Throw in the tracks on the discs, and that means owners of the original game and its sequel have over 500 songs to choose from.

They go on to note that at 160 points each, that translates into a bit over £38mill in sales. Presumably many of them were in bundles, or cheaper 80 point tracks, but it seems unlikely it could weigh in at much less than £25mill. Which makes the dire DLC catalog for GH3 all the more puzzling.

Also, looks like Harmonix hit their 500 songs by Christmas goal.

This is one of the very few reasons (apart from wii bowling too !) that I wish I had a console.

I can't play the guitar, can't drum or anything else but love rocking out to some Rob Zombie or Slayer. :metul:

After reading all twenty-three pages of this thread in one go, Rock Band 1 & 2 sound far more interesting and fun than GH:WT. I think I might pick up RB2 Solus tomorrow, and see how I get on with my GH:WT instruments. The drums might be a bit awkward, but it sounds like the guitar should be absolutely fine.

I'm hoping GH:WT will redeem itself with DLC, but by the paltry list of downloadable tracks for GH III, I can't be too optimistic. I wish I'd bothered to research instead of spending £150 on a whim while out. Humbug!

If you can wait a couple of days (I'm ill at the moment so don't fancy venturing out too far) I can pop my copy in the post to you if no-one else has sorted you out.

I don't mind waiting to save £40 buying a game I'm just going to put in once. Thanks for offering, chap! I'll reimburse postage, of course, and chip in a few quid for your time.

Also: get well soon!

Also also: I'm having loads of fun with this game. It's much more fun than GH:WT already, though I've had to take the plunge into Hard difficulty at the start as Medium is way too easy; I suspect this may change later on through the Tour mode, if the songs start getting more difficult. It's taking time, but the orange button is slowly becoming familiar.

I've been trying to master a few of the more-difficult songs I've downloaded by using the practice mode, slowing the speed down to understand what the fuck is going on.

Except the game keeps changing the speed at seemingly random points throughout the song. So I'll be just about getting to grips with a section, getting into the flow and committing the notes to muscle memory, when the game decides to up the tempo or just plain-out whacks it back onto 100%.

This is very infuriating.

This just arrived in the mail. Thanks a lot, chap! I'll get this song export thing done then whack it in the post either later today or first thing tomorrow morning.

And genuine LOL at you whacking your business card in there, you sneaky little pimptastic devil.

Ta!
