Looks like we're getting some No Doubt the week after:

Well, I've had Rock Band 2 for a few days now. Early "winnar" songs:

  • White Wedding (Billy Idol) - the note tracking on Hard guitar is great, the main riff is just perfect
  • Pump It Up (Elvis Costello)
  • Hungry Like The Wolf - I really liked the two Duran Duran DLC tracks for RB too; they are much more musically complex than I gave them credit for.
  • Drain You -- more excellent note tracing.

Fail songs include So What'cha Want (the Beastie Boys) (I can handle songs being discordant noise, but this is just boring to play), Rebel Girl (Bikini Kill), Cool for Cats (I find these two a bit dull).

The intro song (Hello There by Cheap Trick) is much less cool than the use of Deep Purple in the first game.

Overall verdict, though, is win.

So What'cha Want was incredibly dull. After I fell asleep the first time through it, I chose to do a setlist, which opened with So What'cha Want. I was not amused. :(

I'm sure I'll get it soon enough. I could do with finishing the others (to whatever extent I can) first.

Aaah, but RB has Sabotage. Ultimate win.

On bass, Shooting Star and Pump It Up are definitely the winningest so far. Hungry Like The Wolf is currently heading the pack for the In Bloom Memorial "We've Played This Song More Often Than The Original Band Did" Award.

I miss my FunSquare already. :(

GHIII has Sabotage, too.

In everyone's opinion, is it worth getting RB1 solus at all, or should I just go for RB2?

No, buy RB2 solus, borrow RB1, and import the songs.

The minor tweaks to interface, game modes, etc in RB2 mean I won't ever want to go back.

The random band name generator is ace. After a few goes, I ended up as a member of Four Alarm Thievery.

Can't play it as a band in GHIII though, can you?

RB has the best tracklist of the three "band" games, so you definitely need it for long enough to transfer it across to RB2.

I'm thankful they've overhauled the "select a song" thing, as pushing down over 100 times to get to, say, Metallica was quite tedious.

Still needs an "Ignore This Song" option, mind. Other than that I love the new interface. Being able to properly sort by difficulty and preview songs in the music store are terrific additions.

next weeks this hasnt been confirmed has it? tracklist I mean.

Harmonix has confirmed what the band No Doubt announced last night — thirteen tracks from the group's The Singles 1992–2003 will be available for Rock Band next week. Which two songs didn't make the cut?

That would be "New" from the band's album Return of Saturn and "Trapped In A Box" form its self-titled debut. You'll still get thirteen solid gold hits, each for $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) or the whole shebang for $19.99 (1600 Microsoft Points). The Xbox 360 version gets it first on December 9, with the PlayStation 3 versions landing two days later.

Read on for the full track list.

1."Just a Girl"
2."It’s My Life"
3."Hey Baby"
4."Bathwater”
5."Sunday Morning"
6."Hella Good"
7."Underneath It All"
8."Excuse Me Mr.”
9."Running"
10."Spiderwebs”
11."Simple Kind of Life”
12.“Don’t Speak”
13.“Ex-Girlfriend”

All tracks are, as expected, master tracks. As for the missing numbers, we might theorize that "New"'s inclusion on the Go movie soundtrack had something to do with it and that "Trapped In A Box" — being the only track from No Doubt's 1992 album — was technically prohibited from inclusion. Just a guess!
Read More: rock band, rock band 2, harmonix, mtv games, no doubt

Anyway, 'It's My Life' score, which is a pretty good cover, although I'd prefer the original but thats not happening til rock band 3 is it?

and oh yeah the whole thing is nicked from kotaku, no link because Im drunk and Im lazy, like David Bryne.

Raw Power is a really good call. My five:

Guns & Roses - Appetite For Destruction (Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine, Welcome To The Jungle, oh my!)
Richard & Linda Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights (Genius guitar, vocals in a range I can actually sing and the awesome title track.)
Led Zeppellin - IV (No Stairway? Denied!)
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (Don't judge me.)
The Tragically Hip - Road Apples (I'd be happy with Up To Here or Fully Completely as alternatives.)

I'd really like some Queen (not a band I'm that fond of, but they'd be excellent party karaoke fodder), some of the Mission (don't judge me, part deux) and some Prince (The Artist Formerly Known As Sane), but there are no single albums of theirs that leap out demanding inclusion.

I know, but I was being a miserable :attitude: .

I imagine my missus would far prefer Wii Music, if she actually used our Wii (she definitely doesn't get on with guitar hero at all). However, as our Wii is currently nothing more that an expensive Gamecube emulator (even though we still have our gamecube) the chances of us purchasing this are nil, instead she'll find the copy of Lips she asked for under the christmas tree.

Singstar is quite some way better, I forgot it was a sony thing only. The mics seem a bi of a faff, but I have only plaed it a little. If you had the choe betwen Singstar and Lips I'd say get Singstar, but if you cn't get that then I am sure that she will find lips very enjoyble. i think I had it in teh back of my mind that everyone had played singstar at some point.

Some things:

  • If you are looking for the song import process from Rock Band 1, it's really hard to find. Insert Rock Band 1, go to Extras, and there's an Export Songs option there. 400 points. Took me ages to find that.
  • The exported songs swallow up an impressive 1.7Gb on the hard disk. Once they are all exported, you can delete any of them you don't want, like Green Grass and High Tides for example.

Ah, that's good - 1.7gb isn't bad (especially as the Death Magnetic album for GH3 was about that size!) I've got room for that at least. Just need to find RB2 solus at the right price now, which isn't Gamestation's £49.99.

It's £37.18 in game, and they do 10% student discount too. I'd like to hold off to get the bundle with the instruments though.

I don't think it is officially bundled with the instruments -- RB1 wasn't. In hindsight, this is actually why RB1 wasn't bundled with the instruments; so they could keep selling the v1 instrument pack through this Christmas to support RB2. Some retailers do their own bundles of course.

Really? How veeeeeeeeerry interesting.

I don't think there's anything in RB I dislike enough to do that to, unfortunately. Pity there's not the same way of dealing with some of the shouty nonsense / generic blah in RB2, though.

She's got that majority of PS2 Singstar games (and also wants the ABBA one for christmas) but it's the DLC functionality that she want's Lips for. Initially she wanted to save up for a PS3 just for Singstar on that.

She likes her karaoke games.

Unfortunately Lips is at a slight disadvantage, as Singstar's line-up of DLC is deeply awesome:

MS is going to have to really pull its finger out to compete with that little lot.

Yeah, I saw this. I'm all over that like white on rice.

I think it's good they are adding country songs. I don't care for them myself, but variety is no bad thing.

'Green Grass and High Tides' came up on Rock Band whilst we were playing yesterday. We had never done the track before and it came up in a 'randon set list' and Craig got through it on hard difficulty on guitar the first time, he was very good :)

That is some damn good going. Not only is the song hellishly twiddly but it goes on for several centuries. In fact, if you started playing it last night, did you just finish? Or is he still going?

Yeah, that is good going, I currently can't do anything on hard on the last tier of Rock Band. I should try and go back to it after all my Rock Band 2 practice.
