Aye, seems like a very fair price to me. Nintendo release enough must play games for every console to make £200 worth it even if not one else makes any good games for it.

I've ordered at that, because I'm really not certain that price will stick. So, now I've a month or so to decide if I actually want it.

My Hols will start then and thats a really reasonable price, and if it matches the Wii's output it's a worth it....

Yeah, the two Galaxies and possibly Animal Crossing if you haven't got the DS version. That's all I can do.

I preordered one anyway, seems worth a punt.

Mario Galaxy,
Mario Galaxy 2,
New Super Mario Bros. Wii,
Metroid Prime 3,
Super Smash Bros. Brawl,
Kirby's Epic Yarn,
Excite Truck,
Zelda: Twilight Princess,
Zelda: Skyward Sword,
Rhythm Heaven Fever.

Although I guess it's subjective. And those are just ones Nintendo made. MadWorld, Boom Blox 1+2 and Sin & Punishment 2 are all solid, and then there's a load of enhanced ports like RE4, and all the new play control games.

Edit: And you have more than a month to decide, that date is a placeholder, it won't be out until towards the end of the year. I reckon November.

TwiPrin I consider a GameCube game. Smash Bros I've always disliked and Excite Truck was a decent enough racer, but hardly a must play.

That's a terrible list by anyone's measure. It's got an awful back catalogue of utter shit and very few great games -unlike every Nintendo console before it. It's a real enigma with its massive popularity but dreadful software.

Not by my measure, but I will happily agree that their previous consoles had far better software libraries. It seemed like the gamecube got an utterly stellar game every 6 months or so.

I agree.

It was rather let down by the rather unpredictable control method.

And Metroid Prime 3 was by far and away the worst, as not just because of the not very good controls.

I think one problem with the wii is that I never felt particularly in control. Well, aside from things which pretty much ignored the motion control. The technology wasn't up to the task.

And they stole my damn stars.

It's absolutely not an enigma. It has stuff that casual folk like.

Second, not my measure either. It has some cracking games. Super Mario Galaxy is worth the entry fee alone. One of the best games ever made. No hyperbole. It's fucking fantastic. I didn't love my Wii as much as I love my Xbox 360, but writing it off entirely is a little brash.

But I also agree with Dave. I haven't ever played with Motion Plus so I can't speak for that, but the original Wiimote is pretty pants really. The best games I played used its functionality sparingly. Thankfully the WiiU has a sort of proper controller (and a proper proper controller if you want, and the Wiimote...).

Exactly.

But thinking about it, whilst there aren't many (less than 10 i'll bet) great games there are some games that have changed the gaming landscape: Wii Sports and Wii Fit, in particular.

Never had a wii and there's a few Wii games I fancy playing, I'm interested to see what happens with the touchscreen controller, I like the idea of browsing through Netflix on there and then watching stuff on it if the telly is being used for something else (although admittedly I can already do this with the iPad but don't often), also the controller will apparently also work as a universal remote which is another slight draw. And then obviously the uncertain promise of a few decent games to play down the line. For £200 it seems worth a go.

Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

I would say that Nintendo have been more influential than they have been brilliant with the Wii. They kicked off the whole motion control thing, and both Sony and Microsoft followed. Same goes for making games for people that don't like games.

Edit: Amazon have stopped taking preorders now. I'll keep an eye out for good prices elsewhere.

The later levels of Super Mario Galaxy looked fun, but the first couple of hours were tedious in the extreme. There should have been a box to tick that would allow you to certify you were over five years old and save yourself a boring time where there was never any threat of taking damage. Or having fun.

At the risk of changing the topic somewhat... Shopto have the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Collector's Edition for £11.86 on 360 and £12.85 on PS3 (you lucky Brits... the 360 version is region-locked so I haven't been able to get one of your crazy-cheap copies). They also got a rather good THQ 10-pack box of games for the PC for £14.86 (Dawn of War 2 Gold is easily worth a fiver IMO, it was my GOTY 2009 and I was just replaying both campaigns yet again a couple of months ago. I think the other games would be worth a tenner together, too :)).

I dunno. I hear that any EA game you buy via Games on Demand doesn't actually include the online pass element of their fuckery. So you have to buy that as an extra cost. Worth bearing in mind for any future sales.
