I'll give FF7 to Grim..., on the grounds of his long history of defending the hateful rubbish on the forum.

I don't see why not, if more than one person desperately wants to do one particular game I'm sure we can sort it out.

Chinny, you might want to make the first post link to viewtopic.php?p=258007#p258007 instead of dupe the content. Unless you're planning on cut/pasting it a lot as I update.

Maybe we should just make the admins reassign the first post to me so I can edit it? Don't wanna tread on your toes though.

If nobody else wants to do them, I'll do -

7. OutRun 2/2006: Coast 2 Coast/Online Arcade [3] - 30 *
10. Doom - 27
31. Crackdown - 12
35. Grand Theft Auto Series (3D Versions) - 11.5 *

If anyone else wants to do any or all of them, that's fine by me.

Yup.

All volunteers for writups are listed here. If a game has no name next to it, then it's still free for people to write.

Plus.. it should be easire as we've got the rules set out now haven't we?

I'd be happy to do the write-ups for Shenmue and/or Fallout 3, and even though I didn't vote for it, I'm sure I could manage to say some nice things about the most therapeutic game in the world: Transport Tycoon. That said, I realise I'm just a lowly lurker, and I don't want to step on any toes, so if anyone is aching to write those up I'll be able to live with being displaced.

Also, PLEASE take Malc's advice for the scoring system next year. It makes huge amounts of sense if you stop and think about it. How many people truly thought that their first-placed game was ten times better than their tenth placed game? I certainly didn't- and think a list which puts more emphasis on the number of separate votes each game receives instead of where they placed 1-10 will reflect the tastes of the forum more accurately.

Malc wrote:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As a few people have said that they could have submitted their games in any order, or indeed did submit them without any bias. Why not have the 1st game getting 20 points, and then decrease it to so the 10th game gets 11 points. (or 30 to 21, 50 to 41 etc)

Because at the moment a game that appeared near the bottom of 5 people's top 10 isn't going to be above a game which was in 1 person's top spot.

Oh, and I forgot to ask last few times I posted: am I REALLY the only person here who thinks Tetris needs to be counted among the best games ever made?

Should just mention this for the writers....

The games indicated with a star had votes contributed towards them from other games in the series. So when writing a review you might want to mention why the title is the standout version or even if other games in the series are worth checking out.

Don't worry about that! I've put you down for all three. If anyone else wants to write one or more of them, we'll flip a coin or something, or spread it around so everyone writes about the same amount.

Right, I still need volunteers for the following games:

(DG) 1. Resident Evil 4 - 46.5 *
8. Wario Ware - 30
9. Super Mario Galaxy - 28.25 *
(DG) 11. Elite - 26
12. Civilisation IV - 25.25 *
(DG) 16. Rock Band/Rock Band 2 - 22
17 Zelda: Ocarina of Time - 21.25 *
22. Baldurs Gate 2 - 17
(DG) 23. Chaos - 16
28. Animal Crossing - 13
32. Gravity Power - 12
(DG) 34. Deus Ex - 12
37. Championship Manager 01/02 - 10
39. Landstalker - 10
40. Samurai Warriors 2 Empires - 10
41. World Of Warcraft - 10
42. Hypersports - 10
(DG) 44. EvE Online - 10
46. Quake - 10
(DG) 50. Syndicate - 9

(DG) prefixed before the game means I would be comfortable writing that one if no-one else comes forward.

List of volunteers I've had so far.

Just a paragraph for most of the games. Chinny suggested that EvE get a longer writeup which I agree with -- with two MMOs, one should get a longer bit, and WoW is boringly conventional. Plus EvE is the modern inheritor of Elite and Elite is also in the list. Even so though, I'd say only a few paragraphs.

Good luck summing EvE up in a few hundred words :DD

I think the top 10 can run out a bit longer, if people feel they need it. And certainly the top five.

Edit -- it's not that I'm concerned about any writeup being too long, more that I don't want anyone to feel they have to write a lot. If you want to write more than a paragaph I think that's OK as long as no-one goes nuts and starts sending me 10,000 word essays.

The full arcade gameplay is available on home formats. Indeed, home formats which people are more likely to have, rather than turning to emulation (which if they're going to do, then the arcade version is available)

Things like the Amiga and spectrums versions do not have the same gameplay as the arcade original. Hardware constraints stopped that being possible.

Post subject:  Re: The Official BEEX Bestest Games Of All Time

I'm already getting PMs with writeups from people. A few authors have asked about the personal vs informative balance of the piece. I think I'd lean on the personal side. After all, people could go to Wikipedia if they wanted the facts; what I think we should convey is a passion for the game, and that comes from the personal angle. Obviously you do need to sketch out what sort of game it is and stuff, but I think the personal angle should be foremost. Convince me I should play that 15 year old game because it's vitally important or just huge fun.

With that in mind, in the writeups, each game will of course be subtitled by who contributed that writeup.
