As my PC PSU's has all but died, I've fished out one of my spare old PCs, which just has on-board graphics and isn't up to much. It runs this emulator at less than 10fps so I guess I won't be improving on my score any further. :(

It must be ancient if it cant cope with this - i've been playing c64 emulators at around full speed since i've had an early pentium (I ran arcade games full speed on a 486 with the thing before SPARCADE - and Speccy stuff since the amiga days)

Try going full screen or stopping other things from running

I've played this before. In fact, it's one of my favourite Amiga games! On the Amiga, I know it as Bally 3 by Oliver Wagner. (On an Amiga Action 32 in one PD compilation disk.) Bally 3 is a hell of a lot easier because it's easily half as fast. And the inside dots didn't scream when they entered the initial margin.

I wanted to play it on the real C64, but I don't have the tape, I couldn't get it working with the magic tape, couldn't copy the magic tape to real-tape and I haven't yet got Craig's cable to work with any of my computers.

There's some serious weapons-grade flukey bullshit going on in Zolyx. Getting hit while in the blue by outside dots. Inside dots hitting the tail of the line. What are the chances of all that? I want to take whoever thought up inside dots and feed them ball bearings.

I never liked that you die by attempting to retreat over your own line. In Volfied you can do it, but in Qix you can't.

I demand this score is disqualified on the basis the poster once bought ('Michael Jackson' - Ed).

The image i included is the disk one - i've attached the tape here in case you'd like to try it on the real machine again

This is a '.tap' so when you actually load it up it takes as long as the tape would take (unless you use warp speed) so probably your best bet to get it onto your magic tape I would think

It had a demo of Putty Squad! And the astonishingly abysmal Vital Light!

Thanks, Zaphod, but I think that's the one I tried already. I've got Zolyx in lots of file formats but I think the tape motor stops when the Searching prompt comes up and the magic tape can't detect that to stop the playback. I need to find myself a good cassette recorder in order to make a proper tape copy.

It's them bloody inside dots. Gotta draw your first line sharpish otherwise they'll getcha. Even if they don't getcha, you're always one BELELELELELELELELE from being splattered.

TENSE.

New tactic: Don't take any risks. Ever. Gradually eat up the space as getting a big chunk doesn't seem to net you anymore points than snipping away. Feckin dots in the blue space though!

Congrats to Mr Fairies , and from basic simplicity on both sound and graphics we move to the arcade conversion of Ghosts'n'Goblins which for the time had some impressive graphics and some amazing tunes

Your right - we played it as part of one of the first 8 bit challenges (we've also played the arcade one as part of a MAME challenge)

Sorry we have a repeat in here :-(

Fecking hell! The difficulty just ramped up significantly didn't it. I couldn't get off the first level! Cheating bastard game keeps raising zombo's directly underneath me with a split second to move.

I can't see me repeating any beginner success from round 1.

I got 6400 but forgot to get a picture 'cause I was so disgusted how hard it was. I remember having it for the C64 an' all but don't think I ever made it past the second level...

Yip , and we bought it on cassette , and waited for it to load up every time - its an arcade game , and its in your house , and you dont need to put 10p's in every few minutes - it truly was the future ! (back in 1986)

Yeah, I hope these games get a bit easier after this. The entrance level for the C64 challenge seems sky high! Hell, even Chinny appears to have given up already!

And this was after me rejecting some for them being too hard (Kikstart , last V8 etc)

Next weeks IK+ should be a bit easier for the pick up and play , and then Boulder Dash

And on to IK+

Image

You can view the controls here

http://www.h2nob.de/games/atari/st/ikplus/

Just remember for all these recent fighting games you've a joystick and normally a number of buttons to use , IK+ uses a single 8 way joystick and one button so every direction is one thing , and holding fire + that direction is another move

I might give this a go if I feel up to it. I have it on a floppy disk to play on the real thing with a Competition Pro joystick.

I used to play the Amiga version, though. Without spoiling too much, I'll just say there is a fun little surprise for anyone who can get far enough into the game... If I'm still good enough (or someone else is) it will automatically be revealed during the week, I suppose.
