995 Bananas! Well done!

It's not an easy game so to have someone actually complete it is fantastic.

Ruddy hell Malc! You need to save that so we can put it on the main site!

That really is a thing of beauty. Nothing finer than a 8 bit game map laid out in front of you.

Did you keep a less compressed version?

I'd rather do it again and make it nicer if it was going up any where, but not tonight.

I never did it as a child! But from my memory of the levels I think I must have come very close...

Well done Malc! I got to about 9000 points but i hadn't lost any health so I began to suspect I must have hit a button wrong when trying to start. I am excited I managed to play it though, I am looking forward to trying more! Thanks for the idiots guide to downloading the game and emulator and stuff chinny, much appreciated

24230, so no change in my position in the table. Bah!

I'm not making excuses but I am playing this on an Apple wireless keyboard and slightly laggy LCD. Last season I found with some games like Splat I was better off using the Macbooks keyboard and screen as the response was better.

Which emulator are you Windows chaps using? I've followed the link in Chinny's first post and most of the links on that page are dead.

I'm using winape, you need to load the disk, and then point it at the .dsk file, then press 1 on the numeric keypad when it asks if you want to load burnout, then type in run "robin

Or you can alter the configuration so it thinks its a normal CPC 6128 rather than a CPC+. But you can just press 1 to boot the Plus into BASIC (nb it asks you to press F1 or F2, just so you know the CPC's F keys doubled as numeric keypad).

I tried downloading the emulators mentioned in this thread but they weren't working, one just kept sayig invalid disk file and one went mental and kept beeping and a slight keypress resulted in the letter being typed 200 times.
I ended up just googling CPC 6128(or whatever the number is) emulator, which took me to the Winape site then I chose one from the list that sounded right. It's working fine now.
Will the other games require other emulators?

Yes , you'll also need a Spectrum emulator (ZXspin or Speculator or any of a million others) for

Way Of The Exploding Fist (Spectrum)
Arkanoid (Spectrum)
Jack The Nipper 2 (Spectrum)
Manic Miner (Spectrum)

And you'll need a C64 emulator (Vice is going to be the easiest for this) to play

Barbarian (C64)

I assume you mean Burnin' Rubber? Nice one on completing the game by the way - you have far more patience with it than I do.

yes, that's what I meant. As for the patience, it's amazing how the memories of 20+ years ago linger and bubble to the surface, making that map it was really quite easy, remembering where/when to jump, the best tactics for dodging and jumping arrows and stuff...

Of course, the Spectrum games should be playable online via World Of Spectrum (careful there - Ed), but an emulator is nearly always better.

To be honest its not the layout, more my appalling timing.

Still, I just did a 30720 spurred on by the fact I needed to beat my previous score.

So here we are at the end of Week 1. A splendid week of gaming indeed but I'm now sick of the sight of Super Robin Hood.

Malc, you should do a speed run through the game and Youtube it. Seriously.

Final results for the week:

55490 - Malc - 10 points
36400 - Zaphod - 8 points
30720 - Chinnyhill10 - 6 points
27680 - Joans - 4 points
25080 - Devilman - 2 points
12060 - Rev Owen - 1 point
12020 - Grim...

Meaning the league table looks like this

1 - Malc - 10 points
2 - Zaphod - 8 points
3 - Chinny - 6 points
4 - Joans - 4 points
5 - Devilman - 2 points
6 - Rev Owen - 1 point

Our next game is Way of the Exploding Fist on the Spectrum. Standby for details!

Everything you need is at World of Spectrum:
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0005643

You can download the game to play in an emulator or play it online. As emulators go I reccomend you look at this page and pick something that isn't 10 years old:

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

I can't get any of the emulators working and when I try to play it online it just loads a black screen. These sites aren't very user friendly for idiots like me.

Okay a bit more help and if your still stuck say where you have got to

For speccy stuff although you can play online in a java page i'd say its going to be easier to download and play it on your machine.
I cant remember if your using a PC or a mac , i think its a PC so instructions for a PC

Download the game file from WOS :

ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sincl ... he.tzx.zip

And put it somewhere you can find it

Download ZXSpin

http://www.zxspin.co.uk/zxspin.zip

Extract it all out into a fresh directory (c:\zxspin)
Go into that folder and double click on ZXspin.exe you should get this

Image

Go to file / open and select the WayOfTheExplodingFistThe.tzx.zip (you dont need to unzip it or do anything else to it)

You should now have the game (in a smallish window) like this

Image

Either hit the maximise button at the top of the window , or drag the window till its the size you want (if you drag the size click somewhere in the window to active it)

Press 0 to get the options menu and if then press 1 (player 1 options) then 4 (reconfigure keys)

Select the keys you want to use , i'd suggest picking a key as a fire button and then pick the rest around a 'circle' e.g. fire button L then using w e d c x z a q as the others (if you have a joystick i'd be slightly easier)

You'll return to the main screen press 1 to start
left / right move you , down ducks , up 'hop's pressing a direction plus fire does one move (without does a different one)
Some easy moves to start with
Up plus fire = jump kick
Down plus fire = foot sweep
Back plus fire = roundhouse
Forward plus fire = straight kick

If you find your not getting anywhere at all instead of pressing 1 to start press 2 , starts 2 player mode so the other person wont move or hit you so you can practice the hits you can do

Mine did that it seems to work sometimes and not others. I just print screened when I died.

Also, I reckon the easiest way to play speccy games is at World of Spectrum, so long as you have java installed. That's how I did it, anyway. Assuming the game isn't owned by Rare, Codemasters or Capcom, anyway.

What are the keys? Cursors + Tab does nothing for me (although 1 starts the game).

I'm not reading one page ........

Press zero first to get the menu and you can define them to be what you want

Or in most emulators you can map the joystick to keys which I found easier. Keyboard has too many keys.

Gah, can't better my score now.

One day to go on this slightly infuriating game.

I have given it a few tries and have been monumentally rubbish. I want to be on the scoreboard though so if I don't post a score can be listed with a mysterious 0?

If you start the game , walk up and do a front kick to the other guy you'll score 100 or 200 points , that would get you last place on the scoreboard and 1 point (until someone else does this).

Even if you are rubbish the first guy doesnt really fight , i think holding up and fire would get you at least a few jump kicks in there to get 2nd to last place :-)

** edit** i just did that , held up and jump and didnt change anything , beat the first guy , won the 2nd match on a timeout (i hit him first time , he blocked so my guy just jumped to the other side and did nothing else) , won the 3rd match on a timeout as well and lost the fourth (he hit me first then it timed out - total score 6600 which would put you in 5th place for 2 points.
