The common consensus is that she probably is, but I'd love it if they gave us a twist there and made her someone else's kid

There's a trailer for Disney Infinity that gives the game away on that point apparently.

Could be Leia's who knows. It was Anakin's lightsaber, Luke made the green one

Saw it only yesterday, and here's my opinion.

-Lack of any new ideas. It has basically "A New Hope" structure, and the script feels like fan-fiction.
-Speaking of fan-faction, it has too much fan pandering, considering the references to the Kessler run, the holographic chess and so on....
-While it's very similar to "A New Hope", like most modern blockbusters, it has too many action scenes. "When everything is loud, nothing is", is what modern directors and producers should now.

-New characters are good and charismatic. But Adam from Girls had a silly haircut.
-It looks amazing. The crashed star cruisers are a sight to behold.
-I liked that the bad guy from Ex Machina is now good and the ginger is now evil.
-It was fun, and given the circumstances could be much worse, but it lacks new ideas and it won't certainly be a classic.

I have seen all the Star Wars films! I am just like most other people now.

New film (which I saw yesterday) was all right, but, as others have said, was basically a copy of IV (which I saw the day before yesterday). 3PO is still an annoying turd, but isn't in it much, so hurrah!

Although Kylo Ren seems to be an inexplicable cretin with a light sabre.

Re: Who is Rei - it seemed as if Leia knew her at the end - I mean, Leia blanked Chewie to hug Rei, even though Han had just died.

Also, R2D2 and C3P0 must be fucking old now, right? You'd think they'd be seriously obsolete.

That's Star Wars though, innit? The KOTR games are set 1000s of years in the past relative to the movies, but the tech is basically the same. It's like they've topped out.

Post subject:  Re: The Force Awakens: Spoiler-riddled Thread

I'm think you mean copy of IV.

Anyway, I also watched IV, V, VI in the last couple of days, and whilst Force Awakens is clearly cloned on A New Hope in some ways, it also lifts scenes from the others.

The part in RotJ where Luke tells Leia about how they are related, as a way to explain that he has to go and face Vader because he knows there is good in him... it's mirrored very closely by the conversation between Leia and Han in TFA, with her this time asserting that there is good left in Kylo Ren.

It doesn't go as well for the good guys second time around though!

Speaking of RotJ, huge swathes of it are rubbish. The Jabba stuff at the start is decent, and the final scenes with Luke/Vader/Palpatine are good, but there's a lot of crap there.

I still think Kylo Ren is a quality bad guy though, and his approach being the opposite of all the others (a Sith trying to avoid being tempted to the Light Side) is fun. The wife thinks he's the best bad guy in it full stop, but I think she just fancies Adam Driver :D

As for the above questions re: Rey, nobody knows for sure. Lots of theories though, the most obvious/compelling being that she was a survivor of the Jedi Academy massacre hidden away from Ren by persons unknown (but likely Leia/Luke/Lor San Tekka).

Alternatively (or in addition), she might be Luke's daughter. Or not. Who can tell?

In fact the tech in the prequel trilogy is better than the original trilogy. This is explained by some kind of Clone Wars handwaving.

I've watched this now and can finally colour this topic from red to blue thus quenching my OCD for over a month.

I really enjoyed it.

So there you go, insightful commentary from me.

Oh, I'll tell you what I didn't like, bloody 100 ft gollum as the big bad. Urgh, it just looked awful and tacky. Too much fannying CGI for the sake of it. I was really enjoying the lack of the Muppet Show for the most part too and I'm glad that Kermit and friends just tended to be background noise. I'm glad because when you go full-Boyle with the CGI you create a character with big glasses and small eyes which was a bit shit and unnecessary. Anyway, Gollum was ridiculous and really spoiled the bits it was in.

And the ending was meh, with Rei holding out the light sabre as the camera spun around like it was on a merry go round. And the solitary island was, for some reason, infinitely worse than crappy swamp where Yoda lived. I was half-happy that the sequence didn't last long because we all knew what was coming and half-unhappy that there wasn't more of a trial to get there. It was just typical TV drama bullshit that is ruining films these days to end on a cliff(literally, aye! AHAHAHA)hanger(ahhhhh. Ruined it).

And Leia was a bit rubbish with her thin lips. And the story to find Luke? Weak as fuck.

Boyega was fab though. Really loved him. And Rei. Although she ain't no Andrea Riseborough. Oh and I saw an advert for the new X-Men before it with sodding Jennifer Lawrence in! Whoop. Watching. That. I think I've forgot what I was writing about so to conclude...

So Star Wars: good. Reet good.

Yeah, it was pretty fucking stupid. Weirdly though, although I was constantly thinking how stupid it was while it was on screen in front of me, it's never occurred to me as a criticism when talking about the film afterwards until Sat mentioned it there. I just kept thinking that he must be really insecure to need a hilariously massive projection of himself created every time he wants a meeting with this minions; total over-compensation and hardly suggestive of a confident and capable bad guy.

Vader was cremated at the end of RotJ, in full armour.

The scars don't match up that well. Snoke won't be Vader, unless he's in a non-corporeal form. Which would be stupid.

Binks is an abomination. Before watching it again yesterday I thought the hate for him was unjustified. I was wrong. He's terrible. They insert scenes that have no reason for existing other than Jar Jar falls over, Jar Jar says a stupid thing, even Jar Jar smells an animal fart. It's terrible. Even when there are serious scenes, they tend to end with Jar Jar wandering past with his shit CGI and falling over.
