No, he did exactly what he could have been expected to do. He's cynical of the EU, and justabout wants to remain in as the lesser of two evils. And that's exactly the campaign he ran. Yes, it was pretty disastrous for the remain cause, but it was exactly the opposite of lying or cynical. He was completely honest, and that unfortunately sunk labour support for Remain.

Very good points.

I'm quite impressed with the dignity of the vast number of Corbyn voters coming out and saying "We got it wrong". Takes a lot for people to do that within politics, even at the supporter level.

Which does somewhat bring into question the huge mandate that he still claims to hold.

Blairites don't want Corbyn to recommend that Blair gets tried for war crimes. Only two weeks until Chilcott Report comes out.

Whadda we reckon for new leaders?

As boring as Johnson and Benn/Burnham?

I've gone for Miliband (D) and May, for the lolz.

Johnson and David Miliband.

It's time to roll out the Miliband Prime.

I just can't see Labour members voting for David Miliband. He's very much a right-wing Blairite and they did very poorly last time. Labour's member base is much more left-wing than most of their MPs these days. :S

I think he may adjust to left-middle labour, because he's a good diplomat. I also think a lot of the member base will shift now, through necessity.

Hmmm... I did wonder, but I don't think he'd be very effective. They need a good show of leadership. He has nice eyelashes, though, but they always make him look like he has been crying.

Suddenly 2010-2015 is looking utopian in comparison to now.

With Clegg gone (and now looking much better in retrospect) I think they can win a good amount of seats in a snap GE.

I may be alone in thinking that Clegg et al actually did a pretty good job while a minority member, but no one wanted to cheerlead for them.

No, I defended the Lib Dems and Clegg for five years, saying imagine what it'd be like with a majority Tory govt.

Ditto.

I just wish Clegg had been more ruthless in slagging the Tories off at the time to make that point. "Look what they wanted to do, which they would have if it weren't for us"

If there is a pre Article 50 GE, Corbyn doesn't step down, and the Lib Dems run their manifesto pledge of ignoring the referendum, there may be a fair few more of them.

Once again, Clegg is the person making the most sense. Whilst I don't think he was as bad in power as is made out, I wish he could have been more forthright and better at making deals than he was. He seems much better in opposition!

Corbyn just took a shoeing in the vote of his own MPs.

172 no confidence vs 40 in his favour.

4 spoilt ballots casting doubt over the Labour Party and their ability to put a cross in a box.

Corbyn is refusing to stand down, has to be listed on a leadership ballot, and still enjoys lots of support from the party members. He's actually untouchable. So: the Labour party is dead, right? I don't see how this schism can mean anything else.
