What was it? Some are surprisingly cheap and simple to fix.

Galaxy S2. This isn't one of those, is it?

Nope. 70 quid for the parts by the look of it.

Lovely. Ta. I shall check it out.

Which bit's actually broken?

The outer glass or the LCD panel or both?

There will be videos on YouTube showing what to do with it. Just take your time, and don't blame me when it all goes horribly wrong. 8)

I was quite surprised how expensive the lcd screens are for Samsungs. It's only 22 quid for the lot on an iPhone 4S, and less on the older ones.

Planes can autoland, though, so pilots are pretty much redundant for most of the time, and only needed when things might be a bit wrong. Like train drivers.

Post subject:  Re: Bits & Bobs 39

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. I mean they do have autoland and autopilot systems that can take over certain aspects of the flight but they don't somehow magically automate everything. See all them switches and controls in a plane cockpit, they aren't for decoration.

I was talking to a pilot at a wedding this weekend, actually, and he said that air traffic control are more than capable of bringing modern planes in if both the pilots die, or something. The only thing they don't do on their own is take off (he said there was no reason why they couldn't, though).

Serious answer:

Only if the plane and the runway are fitted with ILS, and the right type of ILS at that.

There's different levels of ILS and you need a certain type to be able to actually land it by itself.

London airports are only fitted with JLS, which would therefore make it tricky.

I like still having the pound as the UK's currency. If not for Marge the government of the time would have commited to a timetable for joining the Euro. Thanks Marge.

I like having the Falklands as part of the UK. If not for Marge, the government would have considered an armed response to the invasion too costly to justify. Thanks Marge.

I like having the £5billion a year rebate from the EU. If not for Marge, we'd still be piling in a dickload of cash that nobody in the UK would see the benefit of. Thanks Marge.

The Unions, who are no doubt at the height of ecstacy right now, are the very worst example of an 'in it all together' society. Marge wouldn't have tolerated these cuntbags who strike while demanding above-inflation payrises in the middle of a recession.

I'll miss you Marge. If only anyone in any party in government had even a tenth of your resolve and principled mind, perhaps we wouldn't be governed by a shower of shits who dictate their policies based on scaremongering and temporary appeasement of the selfish, narrow-minded masses. For every ignorant, gibbering, chav-ridden fuck that is rejoicing over her death, there are plenty more who would happily chip in personally to see her get the state funeral she absolutely deserves (edit: although won't get, according to her own wishes).

By all means, flounce at the above.

She connived with Rupert Murdoch to stop Don McCullin, the greatest war photographer the UK has ever produced*, from going to the Falklands and thus denying me the pleasure of what would have been an incredibly excellent photo-book.

So I just remembered that I hate her.

*OK, alongside Larry Burrows, but he was dead by then, and Phillip Jones Griffiths, but he'd given up all that to photograph sheep standing in bus-shelters. (Although come to think of it, that's an excellent reason to go photograph in the Falklands too.)

The ceremony part comes into play when Thatcher's will is read out and Heseltine discovers that he's to be roasted alive in a gigantic Iron-Wicker-Thatcher as the Tory faithful gather round, link hands and sing Vera Lynn songs.
