Just listening to some old 'Green' and 'Document' era REM.

Darn tootin' they were quite a fine band.

'Pop Song 89', 'Turn You Inside-Out', 'Finest Worksong', 'The One I Love'.

Aaaaah, memories...

I was listening to Marc Riley's show the other day and he had The Phantom Band in session. Never even heard of them before but they're fucking brilliant, Checkmate Savage is an amazing album.

One huge downside of working for the NHS is that you are never more than a few feet away from housewives talking about absolute shit.

Thankfully I have my iPod with me and am listening to the sadly-missed Luscious Jackson and I think that might be the reason why the sun is shining today.

I was sent that in 2008, but never listened to it. I kept telling myself I should, but then disobeyed myself.

What a peculiarly interesting band. That song is probably the least strange on the album, too. Cheers!

Ah yes. I seem to recall it involves a box or a package or something, as well as them singing. Vague memories from watching it a while back on Virgin Music On Demand.

Either way, great band, and you can pick up the album off Amazon for about 4 quid. Well worth it.

Never ever liked dubstep, too slow, now Dubspeed that's pretty awesome.
Been listening to this free mixtape, Doormouse 100%Wisconsin Cheese thats also a free download from Addict Records, was expecting the usual Doormouse Breakcore but this is more miami bass style.

That wasn't half bad, still a little annoying but very funny.

On a side note we picked up a Kenny Larkin album yesterday (Metaphor) and its probably the best techno, that I've heard, in a while.

I don't know if anyone will like this, its more of a can I do this and get away with this in Goldwave than anything.

Massively slowed bassless dubstep. With a fuckton of effects added.

Original track, Skream Darkside Of Life, before we got our hands on it.

Hehe, yeah, got a stack of Horsepower Productions records from way back when (I even bought that B****n S***d record they remixed) and stuff by Ghost, Darqwan, Menta, and loads of that garage/breaks stuff that kinda turned into dubstep (before it went all half-speed). I wish it would make a comeback :(

Saw DJ Shadow last night. Well worth seeing even if my love of his recordings has tailed off a bit over the years.

Hard to describe but he's basically in a giant ball with two projectors onto it, which creates some pretty amazing visual effects such as a baseball being hit into space. Still absolutely amazing on the turntables/drums too.

This video completely fails to do the spectacle justice but the best i could see...

Post subject:  Re: Non-Genre Specific Music Thread

Just to reiterate - that is possibly the best thing in the world!

The animations are Python-esque. It's very cleverly done, the transitions usually take place on both image and sound, it's quite surprising.
I was laughing at quite a few of them. Won't bother to describe them, just watch :)

And the music! I am not a music-y person, but I recognised well over 90% of the clips here, and it's all excellent. Even recognised a few of the album covers.

Only downside to this sort of thing is that every few tracks there is one that you MUST HEAR NOW, but then the mix moves on. Still, at least you can identify them!

DO WANT. Go and watch it when you have an hour free.

Post subject:  Re: Non-Genre Specific Music Thread

I mentioned that they added a few more mixes on twitter a few days back, but this is the first I've had a chance to sit & check them out. The current mix, "Under The Covers Vol.1", has Sepultura's "Roots" complete with a heidbanging sleeve & that mixes into Teenage Kicks, then a bit of techno & somehow they still bang in the 'stones & some reggae in amongst it. In short it's what Soulwax/2manydj's do best & I love it :DD

EDIT: I'm kinda gutted that they never mixed in the Who with Nirvana & had Keith Moon crashing a Cadillac into the pool (You'll know what I mean when you see it).
