It's all right. He's slagged off Sonic elsewhere here.
I keep looking very hard at Switches. Lack of Bluetooth headphone support [1] is about the last thing I'm clinging to to stop me ordering.

[1] srsly Nintendo wtaf?

I think NOT slagging off Sonic would get you more abuse on the internet these days.

I don't know why you're surprised, Nintendo's love of wires seems to border on the fetishistic.

I thought I'd read that this was possible and indeed it is... Providing you buy another little box and lead off Amazon.
I reiterate my earlier position vis-à-vis wtaf Nintendo

Gamevice suing Nintendo over allegedly infringing patents they own and using them on the Switch

The article goes onto say that the Switch has been Nintendo's fastest selling console with 5 million sold so far.
I'm just not interested: There's currently no standout games for my tastes and I'm put off by the technical problems like the pads losing connection, the stand scratching the screen and the latest issue of the warping of the console itself.

I'll happily wait until new Mario and Xenoblade 2 are both released; some other games that tickle my interest and, hopefully, a Switch 2 or XL or whatever dodgy branding Nintendo pull out their arse that sort out the fundamental design problems.

Claiming that the Switch is up there with the 360 is nonsense. The 360 was awesome because the catalogue of games was fabulous, fresh and varied. The Switch just ain't performing in that regard at all.
I agree with Mr Biffo. The Switch is brilliant!
I agree with Mr Biffo , TheVision and Saturnanaialan .....

The Switch *is* brilliant , but there is no killer app on it yet

That would have been Zelda if it did not also come out on the Wii-u
Or could have been Mario Kart 8 ...... if that did not also come out on the Wii-U
Those are the two things i've put most time into on my switch and instead I could have bought a second hand Wii-u , both games and had an extra few hundred quid in my pocket.

Splatoon 2 looks amazing , but again from everything i've seen it is just a modest upgrade to the Wii-u version

We're about 2 months away from Mario which will be brilliant , and may be the push that some people will need to pick one up , but until then its very expensive for what it does , and although I really really like mine its not something I would recommend to everyone

For the tech issues mentioned
I used mine both in and out of the dock , I have no scratches on the screen
I originally had the dock slightly behind my TV and *did* get the left controller drift problem , I moved it more out to the side and its been fine - so although I'm sure both are legitimate concerns neither is really a show stopper.
I'm curious, if it's best games are available elsewhere for cheaper and there are genuine hardware issues then what currently makes it "brilliant"? That seems like a hard argument.

For me, I don't actually own a Wii U so I haven't been able to experience the likes of Zelda, Mario Kart and Splatoon so the Switch is the first time I've seen them all. There's also more than just those 3 games available for it. Already the online shop has something like over 100 games so there's plenty to pick from. I've got 15 games for mine ranging from the big hits like Zelda through to Neo Turf Masters on the Neo Geo.

As for the hardware issues, I've experienced no problems with it at all. My controllers always connect and stay connected, the screen isn't scratched and the console definitely isn't warping so like a lot of these things, I'm not sure whether it's just internet hype that's exaggerating the issues that a few people have experienced.

As for the console being brilliant, I genuinely think it is. I do a lot of my gaming away from a telly so the Switch is ideal for that. Being able to play 'proper' games on a decent sized screen is ace and the thing itself feels lovely. I may be bias as I've always been a fan of Nintendo (but not enough to buy a Wii-U for some reason?!?) but the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console.
For me - again I have had Nintendo consoles since the SNES came out , but skipped the Wii-U (and ducked out of the Wii fairly early) so have not played these games before and the Switch is a great way to experience them.

So I'm playing Nintendo games , on a good system , and when Nintendo do what they do it is amazing.
I think the hardware issues are being over exaggerated to a certain extent - no warped consoles / no scratched screen , and if i put the dock and the unit behind my large TV there is interference (sometimes) on one controller - but if i move it a little to the side its fine (so i'll put up with it)

The Switch will have many many great games , but for now its very much a 'you should probably look at it' rather than a definite ' you should get one' until the next batch of games comes out.

If i had a long commute or a lunchbreak where i was stuck at work then I think i would be using it a lot more in that way (which i think would be a big plus for a lot of people)
I use mine on my lunch break pretty much every day so yeah, that helps. I used to play my 3DS a lot too.

I have fond memories of completing Kid Icarus while I worked in a terrible job. That helped me through.

:this: although going back to the NES! :D
I'm still waiting to see what hardware revisions they come up with in the next few years. I played the Wii U games on Wii U, and I don't mind waiting to see what other device options they offer.

I'd probably be more interested in one that just plugged into a TV (and was cheaper and/or more powerful), or one that was just a handheld (and was cheaper and/or a smaller/self contained unit).

I will definitely by a machine that lets me play new Nintendo games eventually, but I'm not in any rush.
Som, switch sort of ordered, is there any friends code list yet?

One with Bluetooth headphone support would be nice, for a start.
I know nothing about bluetooth but would this be something that could be brought in with a firmware update or would it need new hardware?

Mine is SW-5244-9682-7122 but since we're friends on the 3DS, they may carry it over and automatically add me/you.

In theory maybe. The Switch has BT, it uses it for the controllers. But someone told me that Nintendo said it wouldn't be added later. Perhaps the Switch can only be in one Bluetooth network at once, meaning it can't have headset and controller support at the same time. (Note the PS4 doesn't support Bluetooth audio, either.) Total own-goal for a portable device, I reckon. My Vita does Bluetooth audio fine.

That would be a very un-nintendo like gesture, but we'll see... Super Mario Run could see my nintendo friends via facebook, but didn't hear that about the switch..
Really like the look of some of the nindies presented today: away, 8 bit armies

A few of those look ace! I especially like the looks of the side scrolling platform/shoot em up. I'll keep an eye on that.
Definitely! If all of those were out now I'd be all like "man, maybe I should get me a Switch".
added the vision..

mt friendcode is 5098 6135 1325..

There you go! I thought it was in there somewhere. Good work.
Jesus Christ, Suda is going back to direct another No More Heroes! Yippie! Great trailer too.

Now if only he could revisit Killer 7...

yeah, some of those (N)indies look tasty, don't they...

i bought tumbleweed now..

BTW, something my kids like: far more is in dutch than was one the WiiU (which was already an improvement on the Wii by far... (and the 3ds is catching up, even translating some older titles like tomodashi after a while)
romanista wrote:

Tumbleweed is great but isn't it hard? I think so.. Not quite frustratingly hard though (yet).
I have played about a zillion hours of Zelda and have barely got anywhere. This game is immense (and also I'm shit).
Splatfest. Always great when a game has a special event lije this. Makes you feel it matters
Btw has anybody info on the paid service.. is it per switch or per account?
I don't think they've announced any details for it at all yet so I don't know.
It seems that the Switch is selling rather well in Japan! This is from Nintendolife.com

Quote:
The PlayStation 4 may be the most popular games console of this generation with over 60 million systems sold since launch, but in Japan the Switch is currently outperforming it by some margin.

According to 2ch (via Kotaku), the Switch has sold almost three times as many systems as the PS4 in the first 26 weeks of sale.

665,760 PS4 units were sold in the first 26 weeks on sale in Japan - nothing to be sniffed at. However, Switch has now shifted 1,527,962 units in the same time frame; it took the PS4 Sony 69 weeks to reach 1,523,471 units. All of these figures are taken from the highly respected Japanese retail tracker MediaCreate.

Of course, Japan is not the world, and the while the Switch continues to sell briskly elsewhere, the PS4 remains dominant. Still, given that Nintendo's console isn't even a year old yet, such data bodes well for the future of the platform
There was tons of Switch stuff in Akhibara. No actual consoles, obv, but a huge amount of everything else.

See! It's even selling well in Scotland!
My next console purchase was going to be a Wii U when I found one at the right price on eBay, but I've been wavering a little on that and might just skip it and go for the Switch. Both systems only have a few games I want though, which doesn't help with the decision.
Bought the rabids game... wa splaying it with my daughter greatfun.. the first minioboss level sudden ramps of the difficulty (not that hard, but more that you suddenl;y have to shift from a leisurely pace to thinking..

now unlocked the coop mode.. my daughte rreally loves coop so we'll see

devilman.. just buy a switch.. it's great..

My next console will be the Switch, the XBox/PS lines just seem totally redundant to me these days, no interest at all.

I wouldn't buy a Wii-U at this stage though, unless you can get one really cheap, there are a handful of truly fantastic games for it but Mario Kart 8 and Zelda are on the Switch as well.
As it stands, here are my reasons for three possible consoles -

Wii U - Backwards compatibility so I can ditch the Wii. Smash Bros. Xenosaga
Switch - Zelda (although could get that for Wii U) and it generally seems like an innovative console compared to the PS4/Xbox One. Speaking of which...
Xbox One - Rare Replay and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

So at the moment, I don't have a huge number of reasons for any of them, which is why I'm holding out for a cheapish one of any/all of the above on eBay.

Oddly, I can't think of a reason to buy a PS4. It was going to be VR, but that's too much of an expense right now.
Quick questions:

Are all WiiU's backwards compatible with Wii discs?

Am I right in saying that certain WiiU's can play GameCube games?

Am I right in saying some Wiis can play GameCube games?

I was wondering about shoving a GameCube disc in both my wii and WiiU but I didn't want the tiny disc to get stuck.

As I understand it, no Wii Us can play Gamecube games. I see there's a Nintendont thing to work around it, but it's far from official.

How's that work then? Sounds like you need to rip it to a big CD rather than just bunging a tiny disc in?
