I thought he was going to have a wee at one point. He looked terrified.

I didn't watch this and know nothing about it, but there's a tweet doing the rounds that the main guy is an actor. There's proof of his work too on there apparently.

Oh never mind, I just did a search on Twitter for Derren Brown Actor and it brought loads up.

I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash.

Just watching the first part. Quite entertaining.

Not an actor, apparently.

If there are any other expats on the forum who miss UK TV and fancy watching this it's on youtube. I won't post a link as I found it right away by just searching for 'Derren Brown Apocalypse'. Looks like there's plenty of his other stuff on there, too, including the 'Svengali' live show.

Was this any good, then? I watched about 10 minutes of it and it seemed utterly unconvincing. The chappy seemed like a very bad actor rather than a startled real person, and the sets/asplosions/costumes were terrible (the woman on the telly in the hospital giving the emergency broadcast was wearing an old US army seargent's uniform, FFS).

Derren Brown has now posted a video of Steve and the chap who actually played the microwave in that ad-bumper thing together.

Lends credence to the story that he's not an actor.

For me, the most fun was them dropping little hints in the weeks running up to it.

It was entertaining. I'm not too bothered about the veracity, to be honest.

Given that the entire premise was that it was really Derrenanenen Brown messing with some poor unsuspecting lad's head ZOMG, the veracity or otherwise is rather key.

Also, according to Brown, the chappy was psychologically assessed as being mentally robust enough for the show - how did they do that if chappy didn't know about it?

Also also, they should have done this to Danny Dyer and actually dropped a meteor on him.

Like most of the people on his shows, the guy had applied to be on a show with Brown (and been screened then) -- but he had no idea what the show would be, or when it would happen, or what form it would take, or even if it would happen at all.

Hmmmm.

And, given Brown's previous shows, he didn't wake up from his trance and think, hang on, this is Derren being a naughty boy isn't it? Really?

I think he was told he was rejected as well, at some point in the process.

Indeed. And it was three months later, after being drip-fed info making things more plausible over that time period.

I'm assuming Brown applied for this guy to have some time off work on his behalf too, then? Hmm.

Derren brown looks after his flock. We are all his children now. This is detailed in his truly amazing book.

I agree with the right honourable Kissyfur.

I was entirely unconvinced, again, by the same rubbish he's done, what, 4/5 times now (airplane hero, robber bank man, erm, I'm sure there's more than 2. Y'know, what I'm talking about, right?).

Anyhoo, it was even less convincing given what's gone before it and now the same thing is being dragged out across 2 episodes. Yawnsome.

Big fan of the other stuff though.

Enjoyable, and not as evil as the first week.

Only took me the whole two episodes to work out the stuff about the brain, heart, courage, and YELLOW road to Wales.

On the other hand, it hasn't tempted me to get involved in LARPing.

As was discussed earlier, part of the stage hypnotists' craft is to find people who won't scream out 'no, of course I'm not going to pretend to be Elvis dry humping a microphone stand', but will play along for the amusement of the crowd.

Assume that the guy woke up in the mock hospital, and quickly decided that he was just in a large LARP game. He could have stopped it at any point, making comments about their historical accuracy or whatever, or just played the game. Given the look of complete horror on his face during the early stages of the show, I'm inclined to think that he bought into it fully.

Either way, it was entertainment. Though perhaps it's time for Derren to return to doing ace magic tricks for a bit, without the need to wrap stuff up in a Sunday school-esque 'be all you can be' morality play.

That's what I mean. I'm perhaps too cynical, but as I don't think I'd be duped I find it hard to believe that anyone would.

I think that's partly it. I didn't think he looked realistically scared. Perhaps it's also that when Derren approaches people taking part in these stunts, such as at the end of the program yesterday, to put them to sleep, he manages it in about 2 seconds. I guess it's something I'd have to experience to truly buy into.

Is the audio out of sync when Derren does his narration to camera, or is it just my setup?

MrsA said that, too.

Also: An actress that can't sing in public, a journalism student who can't talk to strangers and two people who can't cross bridges. Ridiculous.

Also, the lab setup is wrong. You never wear a lab coat in an office. Common sense tells you this.
