Looked at most of those. only one with exactly the same spec is the one with the glass roof. I will be fitting roofbars and a bike rack, so I did not think a glass roof would be wise.

The only option on “your” car is the tinted glass. Everything else is standard spec for an SEL so it might just be things not mentioned on the advert but they will be present just like Hearthly’s TPMS.

Talking of which, what are you buying to replace the i30n?

Adaptive cruise control is not standard on the SEL. It is on the one I have just put a deposit on. If you look on at the steering wheel, there is an extra stalk for the adaptive cruise, else the normal cruise on the indicator. In the the 30 odd cars I have looked at or phoned, only 3 had this feature.

The difference there I guess is that Hyundai didn't list TPMS for the Fastback i30n, but explicitly listed it for the Hatchback i30n, and categorically told me the Fastback didn't have it when I asked them about it.

I'm not sure what the moral of that story is.

Kov's selling his house as he doesn't like the ivy to buy a car.
The food is nothing special, you just pay for the chance of seeing someone famous
HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW POST VAN?
Mop, get one of these!
If it’s electric then I’m all for it. Too many wankers leave the diesel ones idling while they deliver stuff. I hope they get them stolen while they’re on the doorstep.

The only problem is the current draw needed to charge 20 of them all at once
My postman looks like JBR, so I call him JBR. He used to power walk his route, but now he has a lil’ van. He does t leave it idling, though. He parks it up, delivers along that street, comes back for it, drives it to the next street. He power walks between parking.

Our other postie looks like Dog (The Bounty Hunter). I call him ‘Dog The Bounty Hunter’.
Yeah we all do that when we’re delivering mail. I mean the oversized parcels at the end that you can’t fit in your bag.

They don’t leave the van idling for 45 mins when they deliver the mail. :D
I think JBR is too lovely to leave it idling.
Not sure about Dog, though.

Not really a huge issue unless they're rapid charging, which I can't see why they would be. Doing local deliveries they probably wouldn't even all need charging every night.
No, we do about ten miles a day. But then the collections drivers use them and they do 40-50

Colour’s not as nice either, but it’s a hell of a conversation piece when you say to the other garage that you can get one with 16k miles for almost a grand cheaper.

Not really. In my experience, all the dealer will say is "so why aren't you buying that one?"
Yeah really. Car dealers always find some magical discount in my experience ‘just let me look at the figures again with my manager’ etc.

Of course there are a few different car dealers in the UK :)
Well the car is ready on Friday.

Just passed an mot, advisory on pads. They have fitted new ones.

I might have paid a bit too much. I will know better for next time
I am now slightly disappointed not to be Mimi's postie, as I might get to drive one of those vans. They look great.
My new car does not have a spare. It has gunk and pump.

Are these any good, or is it worth investing in a space saver?

Career move!

I keep thinking about this. JBR brings around all of the mail at once. Letters, small parcels and big parcels, between 11:45 and 1:15. He does park his van right outside my window (in the van birthing area) so he is close by, but we don’t get a separate big parcel delivery.

Dog (The Bounty Hunter) who predated JBR as Mimi’s main postie used to see me walking with Darwin around town and would just pull up wherever (and he definitely didn’t leave it idling, I realised when I thought about it), rifle through his van and give me my parcels so that I didn’t miss them at home, or to save me going to the sorting office if he’d already visited my house.

That’s when good Posties be-come gooooood.... friieennndddssssss.

I'd say get a wheel. Easier to deal with if you're used to doing it

They're fine to a point, but obviously there's a limit as to what they can do a temporary repair on.

I guess it depends how far away from home you're ever likely to be, and how much you value being able to get back on the road in the event of a tyre getting properly fucked without assistance.

I've always been happy with the gunk as my car never goes off the IOM (worse case scenario if I get stranded is ring a friend, catch a bus, or get a taxi), but if I were doing long distances in the UK I'd value a proper spare more.

As it happens the i30N came with a space saver spare anyway, but I actually keep a can of gunk in the car anyway as it's great for small temporary repairs that don't require the spare.

How many punctures do you tend to get? In 28 years of driving I don't think I've ever even used a spare or some of the gunk stuff.

Enjoy your ironic puncture on the way home!

I think you're the odd one out here, that's ever so lucky.
Yeah, Mrs Squirt got two in a single month a while back. AA Membership paid for itself then.
I've had maybe 4. Luckily they've always been on the driveway. They only one that wasn't, I was able to coast into a nearby car park. Wherein I discovered that I didn't have a spare
Only had a couple of punctures and had full sized spares each time.

FTFY
In fairness I have had punctures but only ever of the slow variety. Apart from that one time but since I'd also ripped the entire wheel off the puncture was secondary.
Kovacs, buy a spare car too.
Got the car, seems a good drive done a quick 40 miles back from the dealer.

The self park seems like witchcraft.... might take a few attempts to get used to it.
Let’s hope it doesn’t stop working so you have to start parking yourself again like a pleb
KovacsC wrote:

I had self park on the last BMW I had. First time I tried it, it parked fucking perfectly.

Every other time since that it failed miserably, and it took so long to identify a suitable parking space I just gave up and started doing it manually again.

I've not used it but would imagine it being similar to my usage of Siri. Sounds like a great idea, but in reality is more hassle than it's worth.

MrsA says the same of me.
Get a spare, if there's space under the boot, floor or a proper housing for it.

Otherwise, I find having a spare take up a lot of the 'proper' boot space can be pretty annoying.
There is space for one. It was just an optional extra.
Yep, they were about £80 if ordered from the factory, or a couple of hundred from a dealer afterwards.

They've stopped offering them from the factory now because of the new emissions testing
A spare wheel? Because of emissions?
MaliA wrote:

Adds weight, innit
I'm guessing it counts as a configuration they'd have test additionall or have a baseline heavier car. So it's a post-purchase dealer option now.
Plus their spare wheels really fucking stink.

If there's proper space, get one, I say
I have to say I am really impressed with the Skoda, I have had 4 Golfs (2 x Mk6 and 2 x MK7), but wanted a change. First impressions, the car interior is a little bit more plasticy than the VWs, but I think that is reflected in the price.

The boot space is massive so won't be an issue with all my tri stuff.

The car itself seems a lot more nimble than my golf, same engine. Not sure if it is because it is an automatic, but pop it in sport mode and it lifts quickly.

It is averaging 54mpg on my commute.

A big thumbs up
