I can't remember, to be honest. I had an AOL account which I started using instead for personal but serious things, like job applications (dno't really want to be sending out my CV under the pimp one), and I guess I just kept using that one for everything.

Things that won't help you get a job, #4327: Sending out CVs from an AOL account.

Yes - that's entirely irrelevant though. Their abilities as a media conglomerate have nothing to do with their image as an ISP.

Just taken a call from one of our external consultants. His wife has bought him some flight simulator software and a joystick and was phoning for help in installing it on his company laptop.

I don't know why we bother with an IT policy. No-one reads the thing.

AOL is synonymous with beginners and silver surfers. Remember the CDs that used to drop out of every newspaper or magazine in the mid 90s? They forced their users to use a crappy, fisher price browser, snubbed search engines for a walled garden approach to the net and pretty much noddyfied the whole experience.

Us cool kids were all on freeserve with clara.net subs back in the day.

But it's more of that. It's the joke of all the Internet Providers, used pretty much by people who have no clue about the Internet or computers.

You have, what, 19,000 posts on an Internet forum in less than three years - how can you not know about this?

If someone applied for work here with an AOL email address, I wouldn't even bother opening their CV. Seriously.

AOL Broadband was actually pretty decent until Carphone Warehouse or TalkTalk bought it and knacked it up.
I'm actually transferring from them today, after quite a few years.

It's never come up?

As I said, I've used an address on the AOL account as it's free (it's my dad's, he's had it for, christ, 15 years) and it's a "clean" address that I can remember the login details for. I haven't even bothered with our BT account as the interface is fucking hateful.

I've got about half a dozen hotmail and gmail accounts, but I can't remember any of them.

Get a gmail address and use that and that alone.

Wasn't there a big huff about it when it was set up, with all the context senstiive advertising based on your email contents? Or was that only in the beta or only just a mooted plan? Or something?
