If you accept that part of the point of prison is to rehabilitate, then occasional day release as a step towards returning to society is fine. It's when it's a serious offender who has done a runner twice before that it seems odd.

Have we done the prison argument in Beex before? Good potential for flouncing there :)

Even I cannot muster the enthusiasm for a good, old fashioned flouncing these days. :D

My girlfriend won a free iPad Air by entering one of those terrible Facebook competitions that I believed were unwinnable and nothing but a scam for your information. It arrived this morning!

Yeah, they give away the stuff, but people don't understand that what they're doing is essentially exchanging their personal information for a raffle ticket, and the people running the competition then sell that info on to the highest bidder.

Mate says "come and play touch rugby league"
He says " it will be fun"

Basically it is a lot of attack and defensive work. So 90 mins of shuttle runs with a ball. Fuck my thighs hurt.

Game really dont have a clue do they - I got 2 emails from them this morning (to the same address) about their proposed stock flotation (after almost going bust a year ago)

Quote:
Hi XXX,

Great news from GAME!

Today we announced our intention to float on the stock market. This would be a fantastic achievement for the company and the support of our loyal customers has been at the heart of our success. Thank you.

For everyone at GAME it’s still business as usual and you will still be able to take advantage of all our great services and products in-store and online.

But wait... There’s more!

We recognise how lucky we are to have such an amazing customer community and we want to say "thank you". If our floatation is successful, we intend to reward 20,000 of our loyal customers with virtual loyalty shares to the value of £100. 18,000 of those lucky customers have already been selected from our most loyal Reward customers. That means there are still 2,000 lucky customers out there who may be chosen to receive virtual loyalty shares. We’re giving every customer who purchases any product in any of our stores or through our website between 19th May 2014 and 5th June 2014 the chance to be chosen as one of the lucky 2,000. If our floatation is successful, we will hold a prize draw and the 2,000 winners from this draw will be offered a number of free virtual loyalty shares in GAME - could it be you?!

To find out more, and see the terms and conditions, please visit our website. There are no processing fees required and should your name be drawn out we will be in touch with you in June.

Thank you for shopping with us and we hope that you will continue to do so as we take GAME into the future.

The Team at GAME

Found an enormous brown beetle outside the back door today - seriously, it was a good 30mm in length and quite a fearsome looking beast. He was struggling on his back, so I (rathei gingerly) picked him up and righted him. His legs were all sticky and he sprouted a pair of bizarre rear winglets as I did so.

I was intrigued enough to do a bit of googling; I've seen the occasional Stag Beetle when abroad, but never a bug this size here in Blighty.... it would appear that he's a Cock Chafer (lol), and apparently quite common...? Harmless to humans, though apparently a nightmare pest as far as your lawn is concerned. I've left him alone though. :)

You can exchange them for Craster vouchers, at a ratio of 2 to 1.

The Museum of the History of Science here in Oxford currently has a small 'history of geeks' exhibition. They've set up a BBC Micro (including the classic cube CUB monitor) with a sign encouraging visitors to have a go at 8-bit programming.

I somehow managed to resist the urge to do the inevitable 'print obscenity in infinte loop' thing.

Close - but they'll sell it to everyone, not just the person that decides to pay the most.

I had high hopes for Wolfenstein: The New Order after thoroughly enjoying the last one but it's comes out a bit 'meh' it seems.

Boo!

It does have the original Wolfenstein 3D as an easter egg

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... g+revealed

And its getting fairly middling reviews (eurogamer is lower than average with 6)

IGN 7.8 http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/20/ ... der-review
Gamespot 8.0 : http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/wolfens ... 0-6415765/
The Escapist 7.0 http://www.escapistmagazine.com/article ... at-I-Reich

From the Escapist review

Quote:
Bottom Line: Wolfenstein: The New Order doesn't make the most of a highly promising premise, but it provides the baseline of gun-toting freedom fighting that fans expect.

Recommendation: Do you like killing Nazis? This game is very much for people who do.

I've never particularly liked Wolfenstein 3D (Did I play it on the original xbox or 360? One or t'other) which I thought was a bit ropey and bland but I did sit up for the advert of this on the telly. Looked real good.

The last one, just called Wolfenstein, was excellent I thought. Quality sci-fi/horror nazis as opposition and fun weapons. Mind you, Eurogamer gave that quite the kicking as well so maybe I should ignore them and just buy the new one anyway. I'll add it to the 'maybe; depending on how many other games actually exist I want to play whenever I buy a PS4' list.

Train timing database now open to anyone

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/21 ... ase_opens/

It would be awesome if someone built a client that you could put your commute in and it automagically checked every day as to which days you were eligible for a refund due to delays :)

Yeah, I know about that, but that is a manual process, and you need to know which trains were over the late threshold in the first place to use it. I want it all done automatically.

Apart from mailing the letter (or handing it in) that was automatic when I used to use it?

A couple of years ago :D

That app still isnt brilliant, it's perfect if you get the same trains everyday on an annual ticket, but i'll have to fudge it a bit I think.

Is the form it sends through editable? My plan is to setup a couple of fake annual tickets for the usual routes I take, and then change the specific ticket details on the claim form if I was on a train that it shows. I really don't want to have to fill in the details of half a dozen tickets a week on the app every week!
