In an act of both brutal unsentimentality and historical vandalism, I wiped almost 9 years' worth of records from my Gmail account yesterday. I did download a backup beforehand, in case future biographers do need to know which pub we went to on 4 June 2007, but I decided there was little benefit in having that info readily searchable.

Now, if only I can clear stuff from sinister Facebook.

Starting in summer 2005...

The easy way is to create a new account, then add yourself as a 'friend' to get your friend list, but I don't want to bug people with a 'hey, this is still me - I'm changing my account' request as that always looks a little odd.

Or just go cold turkey and deactivate and do something less boring instead.

I deleted over 80% of my facebook friends list a month ago. Now I'm down to family, one or two cancer people and people with whom I have no other means of communication (broadly, people I still know in the Midlands).

Despite this being a fit of pique thing, I'd been contemplating it for six months as I was spending far to much time in my life refreshing, and refreshing and refreshing my feed mindlessly.

I have to say, I don't regret it.

I really need to purge a chunk of my facebook "friends", particularly ex's family, but uuuurrrrgh family politics and bullshit.
User avatar
Yeah, it's the networking aspect that's the big draw. The vast majority of US-based contacts on my list are re-enactors, as it's useful to keep a connection in case I want to get over to another US event and to know what ones are worth doing. I'm already letting myself be talked into a trip to Kentucky in October 2016, for example. And, heck, if people think I'm worth keeping in their address books, then that's fine with me.

Some other circles use it for event faff rather than long streams of emails. It's just too useful. But there's probably no harm in not checking it every day, and not 'liking' every photo that raises a smile.

I think I'm due another cull (and Riles has already started it for me ;) )

Grim..., how do I change to the normal version of the forum on chrome. I normally use the mobile version at work as it is 'cleaner', but want to use the 'advanced' features of the normal version, but when I click on the 'try normal' link, it doesn't do anything!

Love and hugs,
Bobby

Try removing the style from the site address?
User avatar
Yeah, remove "&style=19" from the URL and that switches it over on my phone.
User avatar
okay, found a style thingy in the reply url, the standard forum url doesn't have one.

Nevermind, there now, thanks guys!

Can someone please play this in your browser and tell me whether it's awesome:

http://timsoret.itch.io/the-last-night

It's apparently called The Last Night and is being made into a full release. Why's it interesting? Firstly I can't find a trailer on YouTube since the title is so bloody generic. Secondly, it's apparently Bladerunner meets Flashback. Thirdly, I love Flashback. A lot.

Apparently this browser version can be finished in a few minutes but I'm not near a computer. Mind you, if it's shit, tell us it's shit. Ta muchly.

I was reading about this game the other day on RPS or something. Anyway, it's very pretty obviously but there's almost no actual game in this browser version so trying to judge the potential of the final product from it's basically impossible.
User avatar
I've just seen it in GamesTM and had to find the bloody thing with my weak Google skills. I'll get the pooty on later and have a look then.
User avatar
Wait, don't you work for yourself now? Why can't you play it at 'work'?
User avatar
I can. But I've had a really bad migraine today so I've had the "day off". Then I brought Super Mario 3D World to make me feel better. It's kinda worked as well.

How toxic is paint? The paint you put on the walls?
User avatar
Old paint, really bad, new paint, not so much, but don't drink it!

I chucked the brushes in the dishwasher with the pots which might TURN US INTO ZOMBIES or something.
User avatar
Wall paint is water based, so it shouldn't too bad

Is Monday a Bank Holiday where you live?

Due to heavy traffic screwing the bus timetable over I have now undone all the good intentions I had last weekend about not drinking after work because I really can't be arsed to stand at a bus stop indefinitely, no matter how fond of Eddie Mair I am. Can't wait till the railway line reopens next year.

Mine is still progressing, moving date is currently first week of june.

What is the deal with getting a mortgage nowadays? will our bank statement (curry house, pub, pub, curryhouse) get gone over?

That sort of thing won't make a difference, it's the fixed outgoings that they look at.

Nursery fees, sky, credit card, netflix?

Credit card, yes. Nursery fees, maybe. The rest, no.

Childcare and credit cards/debt were definitely top of the list but I had to include basically everything when I was grilled on outgoings for my mortgage, although that was an IFA so he may have just been covering all bases. He did say some mortgage companies pay more attention than others...

Noted, thanks.

If it reassures you at all, despite the grilling and checking, all 3 months I provided bank statements for I'd spent more than I'd earned (unfortunate timing) and it made no difference to my application.

it is mainly administration stuff I am trying to avoid with it all. :)

We might make an offer now but it is dependent on us selling our gaff. Which should be ok but I am lazy.
