I'm pretty sure I've never done it before despite playing the speccy version an awful lot years ago. My brain must have been thinking about it for the last 15 years.

I finished it a few times on the Speccy but I used to need a fair bit of luck on the last level - cars not getting in the way too much, no bad bounces of the criminal car into something else etc.

I'm still struggling to get past the first level with a score around 350k.

How many continues are you supposed to get? I'm not sure if I just stopped paying attention and missed a chance to continue further.

It's 3 credits I think so you should have the option to continue twice. I've got a feeling that you'd actually get a higher score if you finished it on your last credit than if you did it all first go. Not that I can prove it.

That's ok then, I'd used 2 continues on level 3. I'd probably have used my turbos to catch up if I'd known I didn't have any credits left.

Its probably just me - if see something in the distance on the side of the road i'm on then the only way i can avoid hitting it is to either switch to low gear or take my 'foot' off the gas - anyway i'll have a better time next week with the head chopping :-)

Final Score and it's all change on the league table. We have a new leader, but can he maintain that lead? History says he can't but why can't we make history our bitch? Eh? Eh? Eh?:

Nancy on the Speccy was indeed much, much hotter. It's really hard to look at the C64 Nancy and not think the words "sour-faced bitch". She looks like a prison officer from Wentworth Correction Centre.

I've always found Vice (http://www.viceteam.org/) the easiest C64 emulator to get up and running.

I'm disappointed that theres no special bonuses for the de-capitation , although you can do it on the early matches you get more of a score just by wearing them down

The print screen key doesn't work in CCS64, so watch out for that. This game's much trickier than I remember it. I remember getting to the end and fighting the wizard dude where you have to avoid his fireballs. No chance of getting that far. It's also not as much fun as I remember, pretty monotonous, really. Just like Tekken, in fact.

I think the Wizard guy is in the 2nd one , this one just seems to get to the black guy and then sticks there , perversely it gets easier later on as the baddie is trying so hard to decapitate you , unfortunately he does sometimes get a lucky 'scratch' in :-)

This game doesn't really play very well on a keyboard does it? I managed 1100, I didn't get a screenshot, but even if I did I'd have to work out how to post it using my phone. If I get a better score, I'll at least try and save a screenshot so I can post it at some point. Don't hold your breaths(?) though.

I've actually played every game this season using the keys 67890 (other than Pang on a PS2 controller) because that was what I used in the speccy/SAM speccy emulation days. I'm finding I'm actually better at games using those keys than anything else, even a modern controller.

Never liked joysticks, so when joypads became the norm it was a good day. It was a real bugger when I got a C64 because the keyboard was so unusable that games rarely had a keyboard option. That fecking Cheetah 125 was awful, and the only slightly less shit Competition Pro 5000 plus. The worst of all was when I got my first Atari.

There are only two words you need to know for 8 bit joysticks....

"Cheetah Bug".

I'm really snowed under this week so have been unable to play. I'll compile the scores later thos evening when I get a mo but feel free to start playing Dragon Ninja whenever.

The atari had a *great* keyboard for typing , however it had one massive flaw which was that you couldnt press more than 2(?) keys at the same time :-)

Some Atari games were really only playable by keyboard (i remember Karateka being one of them and the main reason the S key on my keyboard lost the white lettering)

Which menu? The loader menu? I'm having problems with that which suggests the key presses required are on the numeric keypad.

Yup, you have to select 1 (normal somethingorother) on the numeric keypad, cheers for that. I did find an old disk image of this (probably from 1997ish) which the emulator didn't recognise, interestingly.

So Dragon Ninja, then. Slightly better than the execrable Speccy version (with which is clearly shares code as it plays much the same), but not as good as the vaccuous arcade game. Why did we choose this again?

Also, 'bad dude' has funny robo-trousers.

32,600. The more I play this game, the more I dislike it. Particularly -

- The woman who hits you by kicking away from you
- The shoddy collision detection
- The gunmen who look the same as the regular enemies but helpfully identify themselves as gunmen by shooting you in the face before you've had time to react
- The awful speech
- The whole, slow second level

Come on Mr Dave, join in! Why should we suffer?

I'm considering that next time around when I draw up the shortlist I have a veto over shit games. I'm just thinking of how much fun I had playing Super Robin Hood compared to this toot!

Sadly I think I actually voted for this one. As a famous producer of Doctor Who once said "the memory cheats".

I think I may have done too, but based on my memory of the arcade version.. serves me right.

It's a shame that hardly anyone is playing EoaE's challenge as the games in there are far better than most of this stuff, even though I'm not keen on shooters.

I'm not that impressed , although its weird that you can basically keep up with the moving truck on the 2nd level (every other version of the game you either die or you get swept off the edge of the screen)

There's been some decent stuff but a few serious clunkers. Super Robin Hood was aces, Pang was great, Chase HQ limited but fun. Fist is OK but frankly there were better fighters in the vote and Jack The Nipper 2 was an odd choice given the 1st game is the one regarded as the classic. And why Arkenoid and not the superb Batty?

I'm thinking of a different system next time around. Proper vetting is required. The vetting we did this time around only weeded out games that didn't work or were not suitable. Nothing was tested for playability. Democracy sometimes needs a helping hand, right kids? :attitude:

Still Manic Miner next week. Nobody can complain about that surely?
