I didnt like the C64 one but liked Bombo which was a clone that had amazing music.

I did really like the arcade one but when it was picked the last time i played it in the league theres another player who just wiped the floor with everyone :

His screenshot :

At the time we were trying an alternative scoring system based on how many levels you went through and he managed 55 levels of the bloody thing , and top score of almost a million points !

I dont really remember playing anything on the amstrad (my cousin had one but he also didnt let anyone play on it) , i will have played the speccy and c64 versions but in general if i'm going for a new game now its easier to go for the speccy one since you can play it online than try to encourage people to install and setup Vice or similar for an emulator.

True, although it would be nice to squeeze in a C64 title at some stage.

I agree , however for a lot of them i fall foul of the 'played in last 10 years' thing because I've activity played them in another league - i was looking at possibly the C64 version of green beret which i also have fond memories over but havent touched since - the best thing about this was putting the C64 on the floor so you could use your foot to hit the space bar for the special weapon fire button.

I think the problem with familiar games is that people aren't so inclined to play on them. Throw up something fairly obscure like Splat or Eric and the Floaters and people are falling over themselves.

Hey your the one that ruled out Atari games ! :-)))

Given the other comments to the thread lets go for

"Ghost's n Goblins" on the C64

Playable online in a browser here :

http://c64s.com/game/1387/ghost_'n_goblins/

(doesnt really like firefox - but does work with IE)

Wikipedia entry :
http://www.c64-wiki.com/index.php/Ghosts%27n_Goblins

Lemon entry :
http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A ... FID%3D1050

Download link on gamebase64 if you want to play it on an emulator (i'd suggest Vice which is available on most platforms and can be downloaded from http://www.viceteam.org)

Good choice. Seems to work on Firefox here. You need Java installed mind. Not tried the Jesuslaptop yet so can't comment on how it will work for Mac users.

I haven't played it since around 1990 and I was truely truely shit at it. Ubless I've become more co-ordinarted in the last few years, don't expect me to get off level 1.

A score to get started with : 20300

Its weird , i remember having the game on the c64 but dont remember it until you hit little bits that suddenly spark a memory (the imps in the city we used to call "bombjacks" because they had little capes and looked like bombjack ) - i also don't remember if theres actually a dragon in this because i was slowly edging up to the point where the first one should come out and it was another goblin instead.

Well i can answer my own question - there is a dragon in here - at the end of the ice caves which are a complete b****d in this version - this is the first time i actually got to the end of them in about 4 or 5 tries and thats just because i've been walking to the edges of the screens to shoot the demons - but the split path part seems to be virtually impossible for me on the bottom route because of the number of ghouls who fly out at you.

9700.

Ironically I got that score faffing around in the very first section trying to work out what the difference between the weapons was. When I got further I scored less well. Gah.

It's Dinamic hard though. Perhaps Navy Moves for next weeks game or another Dinamic title?

If you can - simple ignore / avoid any other weapon pickups (unless by luck it gives the knife) the lance is the 2nd best weapon in the game.

Weapons are :

Knife - fast - high damage - goes straight in the direction thrown
Lance - slightly slower - med damage - goes straight in the direction thrown
Fire torch - slow - med damage (thrown) + damage on ground - goes in a slight arc - when it hits the ground stays lit for a second but while its lit you cant throw another
Shield - fast - very high damage - goes straight in direction thrown but goes 'through' objects so rubbish against some things and you cant fire lots of them quickly into enemies like the trolls.

There should also be an axe but i'm not sure if its in the 64 version if so its :
Axe - med speed - med damage - goes in an arc like the fire torch but no flames at end and 'stops' when it hits an enemy.

I just remember army moves / navy moves as being really hard and one of those games i turned on the cheat for to play around with a while then never loaded it again G'n'G always has a bit of a reputation of being hard even in the arcade - i've never actually finished it but i can get to the final big baddie on the arcade one (if you do kill him you get sent all the way back to the start to do it 'right')

And again - if i win it'll probably be an old arcade game on a system that can be played through a browser (i was looking for a green beret version for the c64 but didnt find it so went with this) - unless there are any other suggestions (i'm happy to take others suggestions for games to play).

A bit fiddly but working for me both in IE and Firefox

Click on the page (you get all the other 'info' as popups) , then click on a game , then click in the screen to start.
The insert key will let you browse your machine for a disk image to play - i just tried green beret and its terrible :-)

*** Edit - the above was for your last link (http://cpc.devilmarkus.de/action/) the one you've just posted works for for me as well although in both the games dont seem to be in English :-)

The second URL uses an up to date emulator.

But it still doesn't work on this computer, the emulator just doesn't load Will try the Jesuslaptop in the morning.

If the games are in foriegn it will only be the menu screen or even just the trainer screen. They didn't tend to translate much.

Unless you've loaded a French game.

Looks mainly to be the trainers - the 2nd link took much longer to get from the java screen to the Amstrad basic page but they did work okay for me - tried 4 or 5 games and they all load - including a much better version of Bubble Bobble than the speccy one we played a few weeks ago

Might i suggest an addition to the rules :

"Points whoring will be frowned upon. Some games allow you to amass huge amounts of points on certain levels. The Lurk Strategy in Asteroids is a good example of this, where you don't quite clear a level and simply hang around shooting saucers for evermore. The games should be played in the spirit intended. Exploitation of bonuses and suchlike is part of the game structure and is definitely allowed, that's what some games are all about. Whoring, though, is cheating."

(Shamelessly stolen from the Retrogaming league FAQ http://s11.zetaboards.com/RetroLeague/topic/474343/1/ )

He's really easy - just walk to the area he's in and stay on the far left of the screen and shoot - he flies towards you (duck if you dont finish him off) - flies up and back to his starting position (shooting once) - then start shooting him again
