I wasn't allowed to go to a local production of Anne Frank because Mrs Chinny was convinced I would shout out "she's in the attic" at a critical moment.

Which was handy as I didn't want to go.

A woman in Texas traded her two children for a cockatoo and $175. Her attorney has said it was a simple adoption attempt gone wrong.

Fuckin' A it was wrong ! She clearly doesn't know how to haggle.

Heh.

Incidently I had one of those missed calls, from the States. When I Googled it it came back with almost exactly like your one. But actually, they were legit - I'd somehow got onto a DJ database in the US and they were calling to see if I should be taken off it.
I should have asked them why they didn't leave a message after three or four calls went to answerphone.

I haven't watched Countdown since Carol left, but saw pictures of the new Numbers Lady™ and didn't think anything of her, much less understand why people kept going on about her.

Now I'm watching Dispatches about children in primary schools drastically failing in their levels of numeracy. Said lady, Rachel Riley, has now visited the school to help teach the group of year-sixes some basic maths before they get carted off to secondary school. It's an interesting programme, but that isn't the point. The point is: I retract my thoughts; she is quite pretty in video.

Gaywood is still entitled to have his Vorderman crush.

Aye, they call them "old" adages for a reason though :P

Our biggest threat at the moment appears to be from within. We've a fairly small chance of terrorism & that's obviously hard to fight even if we had the mightiest army in the world. America is the world's biggest exporter of arms so presumably there's financial reasons for them to be against the gradual demilitarisation of Europe. There will always be a need for the forces (even neutral countries have servicemen for their own defence), but why does Europe need armed forces capable of a large scale invasion for its own defence?

Following on from the thread about the guy taking pics of his son in a shopping centre, I came across this earlier;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/nor ... 533791.stm

Quote:
Police fears over 'Anyone but England' T-shirt

The T-shirts support any team but England at this year's World Cup
A company selling "Anyone but England" T-shirts for this year's World Cup has rejected suggestions it is racist after police in Aberdeen visited its store.

The interesting part, however, is further down:

Quote:
A spokesman for Grampian Police said the force's visit to the Slanj store was not in response to any public complaint about the shirt slogan and was prompted by an officer acting on his own initiative.

Great. So without any threat of impending violence, or even a curtain-tugger's complaint, Plod decides to issue 'advice' on his own initiative about what the shop should be selling.

We really need a 'Daily Mailesque Outrage for non-Daily Mail Readers' subforum.

Last night, me and the missus 'solo' wallpapered for the first time. Usually we have parental assistance. In retrospect, the inside of a walk in wardrobe with many (many) fiddly bits was not the best choice for this learning experience. And GRRR to my damn stanley knife, that only cuts paper 10% of the time, prefering instead to tear.

I saw something on TV that concluded that the reason you like a certain take-away is because you use it often, not because it is any better than others.
Clearly some are crap, and some deliver quicker or whatever, but taste-wise there's very little variation at the "top end".

They did science by swapping people's food without telling them. Gaywood would have liked it :)

"Bicester" and "top end" are rarely words heard in the same sentence.

A new one opened near my old place in Liverpool. It was brilliant.

Until it'd been open a few months, when the quality of prep and particularly meat started plummeting. Presumably to take advantage of the effect Grim... was on about.

Unfortunately, the other good ones had gone downhill too.

Doing something annoying at the moment.

About 18 months ago I did a video for a charity. A good one as well. To cut a long story short the marketing department had also commissioned a video (after approving my script) and when close to completion mine was put into some kind of limbo (was constantly assured it would be used and we'd finish it off but no news since).

It's been hanging around on the edit suite for nearly a year now untouched. I guess I was hoping it might be resurrected. I am now finally archiving it.

Can't work out if I'm angry with the incompetence or just angry it will never get seen. I got paid, but I find it slightly galling that a charity pleading for money spunks away cash on sheer incompetence.
