I read a great short story at lunch by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, 'The Yellow Wallpaper' (1899). It's part of a Gothic Short Stories collection I bought last year and it's the best one in it up to now.

Here if anyone is interested: http://www.library.csi.cuny.edu/dept/hi ... paper.html

Grarh. Helen's being sent to Macedonia on less than 2 weeks notice to train customers... in software that she hasn't been trained on, or ever used, or seen. Because the person who agreed to do it, and had done the training (4 face-to-face, half-day training sessions or something, which left her with realistically insufficient experience/knowledge), resigned effective New Year, and they didn't bother dealing with that in a timely fashion. She doesn't even work for that group, technically.

I got dem old 'Post Christmas Holidays, really don't want to go back to work again' blues.

Not helped by the fact that I didn't have to do any work for about 2 weeks BEFORE Christmas because I'd hit all my deadlines and, unlike a 'real' job where you have to go into premises somewhere and fill your time with mindless ritual, all I could do was stay at home and try to keep my grand daughter and our client child (for Mrs W is a child minder) amused, while at the same time not irritating Mrs W by my very presence.

On top of that, my Team Leader is accompanying me tomorrow on my first visits for my new project. Not that I mind in principle, but she's rather assertive/in your face/impatient and I could do without that right now.

I did think of putting this in the 'Nay' thread, but I'm just being a wuss and don't think it merits being posted there.

Doesn't season 5 repeat the same music as the first season?

edit: Apparently not! I'm sure they use the same band to cover the song across two of the seasons... Or is it just the final episode? Or something?

Connected via WiFi. It was working again 30 minutes later. I didn't change any settings or even reboot my router. Must've been a problem with Live.

I dunno. I think it started well, got even better and then started to taper off a bit at the end. It was always utterly excellent, though.

McNulty's story line in the final season was completely stupid.

I'm not saying I totally agree with you, but it's worth noting that the final season was affected by the huge writer's strike of the time so they had to lose a few episodes from the usual series length and, presumably, compress the way they told the story. It's possible that with a couple of more hours of screentime to play with they'd have been able to set things up more believably?

We've seen four places to possibly move to this morning. One of them is awesome, the other very good, the remainder not so much. Hopefully, the landlord here will be good to his word and 'no objection' means he's not going to hold us to the full term. I hate moving house.

Went to the local petstop on Monday, as my stepdaughter wants guinea pigs for her birthday. Got all the stuff big cage etc...

They were out of GPs and we were told they would be in for Thursday. Just rang to confirm they are in, and yes they will be ready for tomorrow. Today is not going to end well, we have had an 8 yeor old talk about them solid 3 days, and I mean solid, counting down the days and hours....

This is not going to be good...

Just got an email from my local theatre for this

http://www.mayflower.org.uk/event.asp?show=HITCH12

And found its a national tour (so it might be somewhere near you)

http://www.whatsonstage.com/news/theatr ... +Cast.html

Quote:
Hitchhiker's Guide Radio Show Tours, Reunites Cast
Date: 16 December 2011

Douglas Adam's classic science fiction comedy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy will be brought back to the stage next year when the Radio Theatre Company reunites members of the original television and radio casts for a new UK tour of live performances.

Led by Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, with Geoff McGivern as Ford Prefect, Susan Sheridan as Trillian, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and Stephen Moore as Marvin the Paranoid Android, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show - Live! will include highlights from the entire Hitchhiker's saga.

The cast are reunited having performed in the BBC Radio version of the The Hitchhiker's Guide which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 from 1978. Other original company members included the late Peter Jones as The Book, who died in 2000, and Richard Vernon as Slartibartfast, who died in 1997.

Directed by Dirk Maggs, the show will feature a series of "VIP guests" as the voice of The Book, with each event recorded and available for download as "genuine audio experience" after the performance.

Kicking off at Glasgow's Theatre Royal on 8 June 2012, the production will plays a series of one and two-night dates in Newcastle, Birmingham, Basingstoke, Northampton, Blackpool, Liverpool, Leicester, Plymouth, Woking, Bromley, Manchester, York, Llandudno, Aylesbury, Brighton, Cambridge and Southend, ending at Edinburgh Playhouse on 21 July 2012.

Adams' legendary comic sci-fi saga spawned five bestselling novels, five award-winning BBC radio series, a television series and was adapted for the big screen in 2005 in a film starring Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent.

The live radio performances will not be the first time The Hitchhiker's Guide has been brought to the stage. Ken Campbell helmed two professional productions, going as far back as 1979 at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts and later the Rainbow Theatre. Clwyd Theatr Cymru also performed adaptations of radio episodes, directed by Jonathan Petherbridge.

Tickets for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show - Live! will go on sale from Monday 19 December 2011.

The production has live music directed by Philip Pope, and is adapted, written and directed by Dirk Maggs. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show - Live! is produced by Perfectly Normal Productions and The Entertainment Business for The Radio Theatre Company.
