Ben Goldacre highlights some interesting dodgy things about "The National Bullying Helpline" being endorsed by Tory members and such.

I'm as suspicious about Ben Goldacre doing proper Journalism, as I am about the National Bullying Hotline shouting from the rooftops, to be honest.

Why so? He does tend to get on his soapbox about quite a bit, and he's a reasonably intelligent chap. I'm not sure he's got an axe to grind here, does he?

That's not actually proper journalism yet, it's a blog post where he accumulates a few public domain facts and throws in some speculation.

Bnd the articles he does tend to be on pretty solid ground, which is good as they're usually about lack of rigour and manipulation of the truth in the press.

I've got to say, I agree with one of the comments - I thought "BS" as soon as I heard this tale as well, and will be extremely amused if it gets found out as a Tory sliming operation.

All this notwithstanding that the PM might well be an absolute bastard, but I'm not sure I really care about that.

I'm going to write to my MP (and possibly several others) and point out that the main hurdle to overcome in providing cheap, green and renewable energy to the UK is the second law of thermodynamics and that they should take active steps to have it repealed.

Old joke - in that i think it was one of :attitude: 's sayings - and at the time provoked a very large scale argument over what you could and couldnt say , from memory it was okay to call someone lots of nasty words and wish them to die , but not for them to die in a chemical fire (this was at least 4 or 5 years ago and my memory aint what it was)

Indeed. This is pretty much it except :attitude: threw the phrase around with such gay abandon at times it was quite disturbing.

I'm just thankfull I didn't use GTFF or things might have really blown up.

Internet drama, don't you just love it.

It has come to my attention over the previous few years, especially with the announcement that the Drax power station will not be moving away from the use of coal to greener sources (citing mainly, costs), that the energy generation industry is being held back and hampered in terms of cost and efficiency by the legislature. England, and Wales, Scotland, probably not so much, is in need of a basic framework to ensure cheap, green and renewable power. it is with this in mind that I feel that a repeal of the second law of thermodynamics is the best solution. Such an act would improve efficiency by vast amounts and secure Britain's place in the energy markets of the future, benefiting both the economy as a whole, and the environment. I look forward to eharing back from you as regards this proposal.

He's repealing the second law of thermodynamics and the issue there is that he hasn't considered the input sources?

Well yes, because in a non-closed system, the second law doesn't apply. It'd be like repealing the smoking ban to make you capable of traveling faster than the speed of light.

You know what mistake I made last night? I decided to watch a bit of Dancing on Ice.

It was going so well. Holly looked good, the first dancer was in suspenders, but THEN!

Then they let that skinny, belming little twat from Hollyoaks onto the screen, let him speak and dance and say stupid things like "Who are Punk Rock? Are they a band?"

AND THEN the twat nearly fell over and I nearly cheered and MrsP turned to me and said... "You're mean. He's just a kid"

Grumble, grumble, groan.

I was in hysterics after watching a little kid faceplant in the forest last weekend*. MrsP would hate me, wouldn't she.

*gravity didn't give her a single chance, bless, nor did her brain judging by the way her hands stayed by her sides the entire time.

He is incapable of doing any kind of serious interview, his latest performance on the bullying allegations in No. 10 had me screaming at the radio through his sheer incompetance and lack of vocabulary. I'm amazed no one has pulled him up on his ridiculous questions. His piece on gameshows on the other hand was perfectly fine. Yes he is pleasently dim but so is Keith Chegwin and I wouldn't want him doing serious pieces either (although he would be a damn sight better).

In 50 years time, I think people will look back over TV recordings and struggle to answer the question - Who copied whos' style? Richard Bacon, Alan Partridge, Nick Owen.

It's a tricky one today, come to think of it.
