That's most excellent news Bik. nice one. I'll even forgive you for venturing into Oxford knowing I was elsewhere so that's why you didn't mention it. :)

I've now had the lump cut off my neck - a wart rather than a cyst, apparently. No stitches, just a gaping hole left by "shaving" it off to heal by itself.

Tomorrow I have my first appointment directly at the haemotology department rather than keep going via my GP.

Helen, my psychiatrist and even myself are now happy that I've made and am continuing to make significant improvement - to the point where I spent the weekend in Oxford drinking with the mate whose visit to Manchester really kicked my head into high gear. Still some way to go but I'm definitely a good way along. I might even consider coming off the pills in a few months.

I keep having the barely-controllable urge to ask her to marry me. Helen, not my psychiatrist.

Glad you're improving, boss. :)

Aha! I've had my first meeting with the haemotologist and it turns out that the GP's interpretation of the results - "You don't have haemochromatosis" - was slightly at odds with the actual results - "You have haemochromatosis."

So they're letting the first pint on Tuesday, then once a month until the iron is back to normal, at which point I can become a blood donor to keep it under control. Well, if I'm off the citalopram by then (at least 10 months from now) anyway.

I've been on sertraline for years now. I'd like to stop, but to be honest the withdrawal would be a massive pain and I can't be doing with it.

You all need to man-the-fuck-up!! (This is, of course, a joke; "Cheer up, it's not the end of world/it could be worse", are the shittiest lines in all the world sometimes!)

I'm glad you're managing to work through things, Bik. Getting your health in order, mental and physical, and the progress you have made with your home life are all great steps on the road to a happier you! Well pleased for you :) and everyone else who is winning the battle when their brains are trying to fuck them over on a daily basis.

I got a new regular writing gig. Blogging for DIYgamer, a US based indie games site. They're really fucking laid back, the money is fairly good, and I just get to write about whatever indie games I want.

It's been a bit distracting here recently, what with everything with ORSUM NEW EMPLOYER needing sorting out, First Born starting school, Second Born starting playgroup (and boy were there a lot of stresses that went with that. They were so unprepared for a kid with severe allergies that at one point they said they wouldn't let him come…) and Mrs K starting her freelance work. Consequently I haven't really had the mental energy to bandy words with the collective Beex genius. That will change shortly.

Anyway - yays are Mrs K has scored some awesome freelance health policy work, kickstarting her intended freelance work from home career, and I handed in my notice yesterday at current emplyoer. It turns out that the new job at ORSUM NEW EMPLOYER is actually even more ORSUM, as my immediate boss is leavin gthe country and I get some of his job. I'll be responsible for the group's global procurement (overseas trips ahoy!) and everything to do with R&D (lifeblood of the business), as well as other bits and bobs. I'll be starting there on 2 January - new year, new awesome.

* Though I'm not sure what that means any more, given I spent the first 33 years of my life not understanding or wanting marriage.
