The big fish-headed on. I got an email out of the blue with that photo in it. He lured it into range of a monster he didn't like and let my giant fish-monster squish it :) I really want to play spore. I might download it and play it on my work computer, which is a fucking beast. This computer is on it's last legs and I don't want to provoke it further.

Is it a good thing usually when a reviewer has a had a review copy for ages, but still hasn't posted one? I'm confused. The embargo ended on the 28th. In lieu of game, I want information! Information. Information.

("You won't get it." - ed.)

By hook or by crook, I will.

Unrest on the EA Spore board, one poster there has sumarised it neatly:

Quote:
1/ EA claim that they will supply us with the game sooner than other retailers. This is false.
2/ EA claim that by purchasing the Creature Creator when we did, we would receive a £5 discount. This is technically correct, however....
3/ EA charge £10 more than everyone else, and as such offer us no real discount, as we can get it cheaper and earlier elsewhere, even without our supposed discount applied.

Tcha, eh? And it's digital download which you have to pay £2.50 to download again after six months, and again after two years if its still running. And you don't get a nice manual and box and stuff.

Truly, EADM is the Anti-Steam.

Hopefully the 24-hour ASDA will be selling it, and for cheap. I'm starved for anything to do. Anything at all.

And also very tempting. I'm trying to resist the urge to nerd it up to the degree of CG though. The amount of time I have right now is dangerous.

I wouldn't worry about that, that level of nerding is incredibly hard to reach.

Here's the score, unless you like to read before knowing:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
It's a nine, not the dreaded eight! Hurrah!

Really sorry to hear that Rodafowa. Hope the guy who did it gets clobbered something nasty in life. :(

Thanks, everyone. Doesn't look like the ripping-off was quite as extensive as I'd first thought, so it's just the irritating hassle involved in getting everything that was set up on the old card onto the new card and chasing the bank for the missing cash to worry about now.

And the annoyance of not getting Spored this weekend, obv.

To be fair, the solution to my problem only involves a short walk in the morning, so I can't really complain.

But you are injurified! A short walk to you might be like a hike up Everest in a bikini for the rest of us! Don't make the lack of Spore seem any less of a momentous let down than such an occurrence clearly is :P

Yay for Mimi! Dang on the enforced wait!

Everytime you post Mimi, I warm to your new puppy avatar a little more. At first I found him/her slightly unnerving, but now I've gotten used to the lil'l critter.

Mission accomplished. :)

Fuckin' EA.

I just went to the Spore web site to try and find my Spore name so I could give it to people for buddy use.

The Sporepedia "is currently down for maintenance". The log in page "is currently down for maintenance".

On release day.

EA have never really got the hang of this "online" thing, have they?

EA's got about as much clue about 'ease of use online' as Russia has about 'proportionate response'.

Apparently people have been able to validate, but not log into Sporepedia in game. I suspect this is because they've left it to the last minute to do the Sporepedia updates. Incredibly, they did the American one before the EU one, even though their release date is further away.

Also, I hate the way you can't delete your account with the EA store and the card details they have with it. Also, apparently it's hugely difficult to get a refund off them, and they're charging £39.99 for the vanilla copy of Spore - which means you still pay more than the shops with the Creature Creator discount.

Nice going EA. Though I admit your promotional stuff and new non-shit game development strategy is exemplary.

But honestly, they really need to get some independent experts in to look at their online store and download system and tell them what needs sorting, and how.

Ps, could you all report the situation with the DRM crap from a bought copy? I read the EULA today and it mentioned about limited number of "licences" etc. :(

Just got into the space stage of the game. I'm a tad disappointed with how simplistic and short the other stages are, but I can see what Eurogamer meant when they said they seemed like lengthy tutorials. It seems to have a fair bit of scope and feels much more like a game now I've reached space.

Close, I think you can have as many reinstalls as you want but you can only reinstall three times on different systems. So it's a pickle if you have new ram installed, etc. At least, I pray it's that as with my tiny 75 gig hard-drive I have to juggle stuff all the time.

Oh, and installing now!

EA's download thing has been nothing but hassel for me.

Now it doesn't recognise my license, so I can only play offline.

My retail copy says the same thing, so it isn't just the downloaded version. EA are just massively incompetent.

Strange, it recognised mine. Did you type the validation code in capitals? Or set up a new account? You almost certainly did, and EA are certainly incompetent on that front from past experience.

Anyway, I got in and had a great lark. Spent the last four hours playing up to the start of tribe, ending up with a mix between kangaroo, goat and Lee Hazelwood. Rodafowa seems to have got in too, 'cos he epicized my Brechmose! How did that work out for ya, matey? I'm enjoying it so far, though there could be more depth. It gets a bit repetetive repeating those four social buttons. Still, had fun, and some nice surprises. Plus I'm really attached to my creation.

Maxis's are a bit crap though.

Main criticism is that its only recognised about three of my creatures from the creator as being mine, which is a pain in the arse.

How do you invert the y-axis? I can't think of anywhere else to look and it's driving me crazy.
