You remember that Doctor Who story where an evil petrochemical company injected it's waste into a disused coal mine and bad things happend (The Green Death). Fantasy surely?

Well it turns out that if you are an evil petrochemical company and you inject bad things into the earths crust bad things happen.

How MaliA makes work for himself:

Quote:
Actually, if we had an imperial set of spanners, it would be reasonably simple to strip down the tandem, sand off the paint, remove the rust and spray it up. The only real issue would be the time it takes. I think about a day to strip the paint off with sand paper, an evening or two to apply priming coats, two evenings for painting, one for applying decals and two to laquer it up. I'm not sure about how to remove the brakes and chainsets yet, but to be honest, nobody will look that closely. If I mask it up carefully enough, it should be OK. We can convert the shed into a painting arena as that isn't on the inventory list for this house and we have burnt most of it already.

Thank fuck I have an Pod and about 4 months of MerkinPBS to listen to,and a (very artistic streak -Ed).

Just watched episode 11 of House of Cards. Crikey, it's good. Consistently good, too, in a weird sort of "if the West Wing was done as a history of Machiavelli" sort of way.

Yes, that's the one.

In other news, I'm still reading the Guardian. This story is amazingly bizarre, and frightening.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... -education

There are 60 of these schools in the UK.

It sounds like it isn't but that OFSTED doesn't have the resources to thoroughly check everything which is being taught.

One of them has been ofsted inspected and came up "satisfactory", which is terrifying.

EDIT - jinx! From the sounds of it a cursory check woudl show the bonkersitude going on.

This sort of shit's only going to get worse with the increase in academies - every school will have to become an academy within the next few years. The main reason being that the local authority will no longer be able to supply the bought-in services to schools as fewer and fewer of them buy them (with the more that turn academy), so the schools will have to become academies in order to buy them themselves. The kids' school I'm governor at is having to consider this. The problem then is potentially being taken over by companies like that one run by the bloke who owns Carpetright, and then being turned into either a profit making exercise for buying services from the owners' other companies, or getting the curricululm hijacked by nutters.

The other driver is that schools can be forced into becoming academies if they don't meet certain arbitrary and ever changing threshholds for Ofsted inspections.

It's also a stealthy way of getting rid of any collective pay agreements for teachers.

Gove is a monstrous idiot.

I approve of ChinnyHill's plan.

I also say that there should be 'Excellent' lessons, dedicated to teach children about excellent people and the excellent things they did, thus promoting excellence in the field of excellence.

Ta for the birthday wishes guys! Am now 33, which means I have to survive notorious Jesus/Hicks deadly age - secondly only to the Club 27 deadly age incorporating Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Still, survived that one, although possibly not being a wayward genius musician with a penchant for excessive drug taking helped there.

Hullo! I've moved the potentially ill-advised paedo speculation thread from earlier on into the mod forum while we take a look through it and use the massive amount of legal powah and skillz the mod team have between us to work out if any of it is dangerous. Ta!
