And you leave it set to 'Kempston Joystick' in the dropdown?

Dunno.. I used an emulator too. I'd be tempted to turn that off if possible or switch it to Sinclair if that's also in the dropdown.

As it's now lunchtime, I've nipped on to WoS to try both Java versions and it looks pretty broken as the ball is meant to auto-launch after a few seconds so it suggests its locking up.

Just pretend you scored 100 points or something. ;)

I played with an emulator but used the default keys , if your using the java one make sure your selecting 48k spectrum as the type as it gave me weird results with the 128k machine

Keys I used were

z = left
m = right
a = fire / launch

And isnt there a spectrum emulator for your phone or something ?

It's OK. If you don't make the high score table we'll take your word for it. Them is the rules. Just post the score.

oh, cool. I got 23450ish. About 4 times. I got to level 3 with no warps (and no lives left!)

Admittedly it was 4 mins before the end but this was the only time I had to have another go.

Also, Jack the Nipper 2 - I never played this properly back in the day, I used to just mess about in a GTA stylee. Any rules against looking at walkthoughs and maps?

Lovely, lovely graphics. Looks just as nice now as it did then. Apart from the colour clash, obviously, but that's kept to a minimum.

2 - Devilman - 24 points
3 - Joans - 20 points
4= - Malc - 17 points
4= - Itia - 17 points

Cock up occurred due to me not rescoring from scratch when I added that last minute score in. I would apologise but frankly you should have come to expect it by now. :roll:

It sadly doesn't seem to make much sense as a game. The original one was better, there seemed to be an objective. This is style over substance.

Still, there are positions on the scoreboard to be had.

As a kid, I preferred the the sequel (I always liked games where you could swing around on ropes, Jet Set Willy II, Hunchback and the like) but I suspect that if I played the original now, I'd prefer that.

Reading some of the reviews and tips on WOS there are some objectives but they are not that clear and seem to be of no pratical use (i.e. in one of my games i found the mouse , i should now take it to the elephant at the opposite end of the map ...... so it frightens it off ......so what ?)

Yes it's Chase HQ on the CPC.

Different rules from usual and this is important. You can use all the continues the game makes available to you.

http://tacgr.emuunlim.com/downloads/filedetail.php?recid=173

Ensure you select the 128k version when loading for the sampled speech. Also ensure you don't select the various cheat modes.

Hold on man!

Never played this version before. Much harder than the speccy version - the blockyness (sorry Chinny) makes it a bit difficult to see what's going on. Other than that it's the speccy version in colour, which is as it should be. The c64 version was hilariously bad. Note to programmers - don't use the high res mode in a car game if you only have a 1 Mhz cpu.

Turbo Charge on the c64 is also excellent, though. I might nominate that next time as it's relatively unknown.

If you keep messing around like this, your time is going to run out!

Reached stage 4 but didn't beat Itia's score. Bah!

Yeah the graphics are a little blocky but the emulators don't do them any favours. Looked far better on a proper CPC monitor. On modern LCD's with all the scaling all CPC graphocs tend to look blocky when in actual fact on a Amstrad monitor they looked great.

Next time we do the 8 Bit Challange we need to play Burnin' Rubber on the GX4000 for sure.

Do ensure you play Chase HQ, I really enjoyed picking it up again. Doesn't have quite the "just one more go" appeal of Pang but a good conversion. RG rated the CPC version the top home conversion a few months back which was nice. Interestingly they slated the ST and Amiga versions when all the mags were wetting themselves over them back at the time.

C64 version was dire. My mate got it for his 64 and man did that give me some ammo in the CPC v C64 wars.

No problem with level 5 here - other than the fact that it's fecking hard. Breezed through the first 4 without using a continue and lost them all on level 5.

Edit - I'm using Win Ape 2.0 Alpha 17 on Vista with the file Chinny linked to.

Using the same emulator and file here. I'm wondering if it glitched because I finished level 4 with 0 time remaining. In fact, once it had showed the bonus score at the end of the level, it let me start accelerating again in the background!

I actually had around 9 million, but you get a huge bonus after the end sequence, so it's worth waiting for that. It's only by chance that I left the thing running whilst messing about with photobucket.

I'm pretty sure I've never done it before despite playing the speccy version an awful lot years ago. My brain must have been thinking about it for the last 15 years.

I think the best approach it to save all your turbos until you reach the baddie, unless you're about to run out of time.
