Can't wait. We'd talked about going to the states and driving round a bit but time was getting a bit short to organise that properly, so maybe next year.

Don't forget to do ESTA. Also, what visa? Wouldn't you be travelling under the visa waiver program?

Edit -- and if you didn't give your passport numbers to the airline or booking agent at booking time, don't forget to do any APIS stuff they email you about post-booking too. And check and doublecheck that the passport numbers, dates of birth, and passenger names are exactly correct.

Yay!

Circling above Salt Lake City whilst waiting to land, with the mountains glowing red as the sun set, was amazing this summer.

Not a lot that I can recall immediately, sorry to say. There was a lovely fox fur coat that I almost bought for the lass I went there with, but didn't for some reason. Don't forget the £10 'entry fee' to Turkey, topless sunbathing was tolerated, deckchair rental for the beach was tolerable. The diving is nice, enough, but makes you very tired. At the end of the spit, if memory serves, there's a nature park or somesuch. I preferred it to Tunisia.

Me too! It's lovely indeed.

My tips would be to try everything, but don't bother with any full-day boat trips as they're incredibly dull. Definitely try some rafting, diving and paragliding if you can.

The $10 'exit fee' in Mexico amused me. Paid in cash to a uniformed official.

Oh, there's these little Bedford Rascal vans that operate as buses. They are quite cheap. Better value for money is getting a cab, asking how much to go to a place, then add 20% to that value, give the driver the money and say 'quickly'.

Cheers, we mainly want to do loads of snorkelling, kayaking, beach bars, some trips up into the mountains (ghost village sounds rad), that sort of thing. I just had a look for some videos of paragliding in Oludeniz and they aren't really doing a bang-up job of selling it to me so far:

Nasty. That could happen anywhere, mind; just gotta balance the risks.

The rest of your list is easily doable, and everything's almost insultingly cheap. Our rafting trip included a bus ride to a pickup point, lunch, a minivan up to the start point, the entire rafting day, dinner and a coach ride back to our hotel, all for about £50 each.

Yeah, true. Just if was going to try paragliding I think I'd probably do it here, where there's more red tape. I saw another accident in Oludeniz where a skydiver went straight through a paraglider's canopy. That just wouldn't happen here as you'd never get people sky-diving without someone else making sure the drop zone was clear. I dunno, I don't mind doing sketchy things or going to sketchy places but common-sense tells me to avoid doing both together.

Double Yay.

1 - Blanket ban on gay men donating blood has been removed (albeit they still need to not have had sex for a year)
2 - Evil mentalist Nadine Dorries MP had her abortion bill thrown out in the Commons, causing her to throw her toys out of her pram.

Nadine Dorries wanted it to be illegal, but couldn't quite get that far, so wanted to make sure that everyone having an abortion had to be brutally told they were a murdering scumbag for hours at a time by church people.

It was a requirement that the abortee (?) undergo counselling that was from a separate organisation to that performing the abortion. The general gist of it was that all the excellent charities out there that currently do both would be relegated to just being abortion providers, and that a load of people with enormous vested interest would be brought in to do the counselling. Curio wasn't far off the mark.

Dorries' argument was that the existing providers are "biased", which is the default position for "don't agree with my viewpoint".

Quite how they can be biased, when there is no profit or benefit to these providers in persuading people to have abortions is a question that Dorries is unable to answer.

Which was quite the opposite position that was taken on Section 28. Somewhat baffingly

Also, there was no correlation between an act that would doubtless reduce the number of abortions, and dealing with some of the frankly ridiculous problems faced with adoption, likely giving rise to more children born into unstable families or taken into state care with no obvious route out, the direct opposite of what the Tories think is right.

Madness.
