I don't get this at all. I've always believed in my skills and have often said that if you don't believe you're great, then no one else will. I used to apply this theory a lot when I was drumming in bands. People would ask if we were any good and I would always say "Yes. We're the best"

Whereas I rather suspect that I'm utterly crap at drums, bass guitar etc. Except that people I've played to have thought I was excellent. And I trust their opinion more than mine.

No, you get to 'draw again' from the pile of unopened presents.

Everyone who is taking part in Bad Santa will pick a number out of a hat. If there are 20 players the numbers will be 1-20.

The person who draws number 1 will go first, pick a present and open it.

Number 2 then goes and has the choice of stealing number 1’s present or picking a new one. If number 2 steals number 1’s present, number 1 can pick a new gift from the table.

Number 3 then goes they have the choice of stealing number 1’s or number 2’s present and so on. The higher the number the better choice you’ll have, but a present can only be stole a maximum of 3 times.

I think it's quite common.

I've played it where all the presents in the pile were wrapped so you had to choose whether to take something that's open or gamble on a mystery box. I made sure I wrapped my gift in a far larger box that was necessary.
