No, no, it's not round and woody enough. It has too many sharp edges.

Has anyone made a purchase on one of the Beatles Rock Band guitars? If so, how well does that whole auto-calibration thing work?

And I'd quite like the Gretsch.

But what I'd really like is that Fender Precision Bass. Hurry up Mad Catz! It's out in Yankland FFS! Hurry up!

Examining the boxes in HMV, the Gretsch looks nicer, but the Xbox guide button is on the side of the body. Looks a bit weird.

It's already fucking out for you Xbox-owning arseholes!!!!

This is the wired version for £68.50 and the same site also has the wireless version for £90. I have gone a delicate shade of green whilst looking this up.

Because the Fender Precision is too expensive?

Also, you like Cannibal Corpse and painting little men. You've got no room to talk.

The auto calibration thing worked fine. The xbox guide button is on the bottom of the guitar we've got (which was the one that came with the Beatles band in a box), it's on the edge, sort of at the corner, the edge next to the start button and everything. So while that doesn't bother me, Jen kept pressing the guide button in the middle of songs through resting the guitar on her leg. I think that was just her getting used to it though. It wouldn't put me off buying another one of the Beatles guitars because they are really cool and it is a total let down to go from playing one of them to playing our old GH3 guitar.

They both look awesome (especially the Rickenbacker IMO), but we've already got five guitar controllers for the Eggbox. And three more for the PS2. It's bloody embarassing.

Consensus on the Rock Band forums edges in favour of the Gretsch. I can't decide between them.

I only have three 360 ones and two PS2 ones, and the PS2 ones were on loan to a friend of the ex so I'll probably never see them again anyway. So, yeah. I think I'm allowed one more.

I have one PS2 guitar (the wireless Kramer) and two Xbox 360 guitars. Unfortunately both the 360 ones are a bit knackered, so I'm just playing drums at the moment.

If I get one today I'm going to own four. I don't need four. Want, say, my GH3 one? You could just have it on indefinite loan but I dunno how I'd get it to you. Might be postable.

It should cost about a fiver to post. I don't mind paying that for some unbridled Rock Band joy (and some tedious Guitar Hero drivel, too).

Oh right. No, it doesn't. I'd rather hang on to my GH:WT guitar sorry. The only other one I have spare is my wired Rock Band strat, but it's semi-bust (start button doesn't work).

That's fair enough. I'll go back to Plan A, which is to buy Guitar Hero Metallica or GH5 in a bundle when I see a special offer and then split it and sell the game to 3.141n0 F71d.

Heh. I'm not a huge fan of the guitar either actually -- I prefer the Rock Band silent strum and flat fret buttons. But that's just a personal preference, whereas GH:WT is objectively teh suck.

It's the only 360 controller I've ever seen that needs three AA batteries, because it rocks 50% harder.

Yes.

I used to hate him. Then I wanted to hate him. And I probably would if I knew him. But I don't. I know him from self-titled album and Supergroup. And he's awesome in them.

But then I like Pantera and Slayer, and it's not like they haven't had far right crackpots in them. And Metallica has at least one hunting crackpot.

Exchange in our house when the "DoctorGlyndwr is online" notification popped up while we were setting up for a quick blast through Tribute and Re: Your Brains:

"Oh, look, it's THe Internet's Famous Richard Gaywood. He's just bought the George Harrison guitar controller. It's bloody gorgeous."
"How much was it?"
"Pricey."
"How pricey? Thirty quid?"
"Keep going."
"Fifty?"
*Awkward silence*
"Seventy?"
"Um..."
*pause* "How old is he?"

Also, I'm using a full-size edrum kit as a drum controller, dude. My perspective is clearly all out of whack.

Mind you, the drumkit (plus eBay parts for the MIDI interface) wasn't much more than the ION Rock Band kit, and that only plays Rock Band.

Verdict on that guitar: it's really nice. I always preferred the RB strat, as i said earlier, and this has all the stuff I like on it. Plus, the auto calibration feature for the lag is brilliant - just hold it up to the speakers and screen. Turns out my TV and amp in the living room needs 144ms and 121ms delay (noted problem with my TV), whilst my monitor/TV I mover it to last night in the dining room (where the drumkit is) needs about 30ms for both. When I first moved the 360 I couldn't hit any notes at all.

It is startlingly clear, from the simple fact that I bought a £90 plastic guitar, that I am a single male in his late 20s or early 30s. No-one else would have the sufficient surfeit of disposable income and deficit of common sense.

I had more disposable income when I was 19 than I do now. Year out; working; living rent-free with folks. I did all sorts of stuff, like drop £80 on a whim for some headphones, or spend £100+ in a comic shop (I saw Intron Depot 1 and 2, among other things).

Now I'm lucky if I can afford contact lenses.

In other news, the easy half of the beats achievement is done in the drum trainer :D

In an extension of "other news", the other half is never going to be within my capabilities... doomed to finish RB2 on a teasing 960 points :'(

I reckon I could do it with some practice.

I just can't handle any off-beat kick pedals, which is quite a lot of them... there is just about a slight chance I could do half of them on 180bpm, which would work, but it's highly improbable.

Mind you, I didn't think I would manage even the "do all beats/fills at 60bpm" one, and I did. And I didn't think I would be able to 100% Burnout, and I 101%-ed it :DD
