If you want one I got it from this fella: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAMO-82-CAGE-CRAT ... .m14.l1318 luckily they're based about 10 miles away from where I live so I just went there and picked one up.

I might have to consider that - that's a pretty good price considering the size of the cage.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 2

It's an absolutely excellent price. The only drawback to the cage is the size of the access doors, but I'm sure a bit of DIY expansion using these spares http://www.petcentreonline.co.uk/ecomme ... t~1023.htm could help with that.

Currently watching the HD-DVD of Enter The Dragaon.

Good news - it's had a truly lovely transfer, and looks absolutely excellent. I'm used to watching it on TV, where it's washed out and full of artefacts; my house-mate says the DVD is much the same as that.

Whereas this, looks truly ace. Only £4.99 now in Gamestation (for example) - get it!

I got it for £4.49 from HMV (almost certainly not that price in-store), as part of my massive stock up on HD-DVDs before they all disappear (although it proved to be more of a massive stock up on HD-DVDs before they all get even cheaper).
I'm crap at watching stuff though, so I probably won't watch it until sometime in 2009.

(Eagle-eyed Joans fans may have noticed that I said a similar thing about games, and will have (quite correctly) assumed that I am an idiot that spends money on random crap with no regard for how much use I'm likely to get out of it.)

In further rat news, Noodle (my white rat) seems to have an eye-infection, but since I'm already having expensive dental work this week, I don't have the time or money to take her to the vet. I just hope it clears up by itself. I guess if she's still like it by the end of the week, I'll have to take her whatever.

I think bog standard eye drops from the chemists will do the job and save you about £70 probably. Failing that, salt water solution is pretty good. One of my dogs gets pink eye every now and then and I just use eyedrops from the local chemists - it's effectively the same stuff.

I might have to look into that. Rats have a pinkish tint to their mucus, so in Noodle's case it genuinely is pink-eye. In typical fashion though, you'd never think anything was wrong with her from the way she acts - she's far too busy climbing on things, re-arranging the toys in the cage and doing ridiculous acrobatics to worry about a bit of pink eye.

Aye, rats produce a red dye type substance from a gland behind their eyes. It's quite troubling when I find my rat appears to be bleeding from his eye. Vet's okayed him as perfectly normal about it though.

Somehow (and I don't know how) I've scratched the new Macbook pro just beneath the network connection.

I know it's an initiation for all shiny hardware to get some damage but this is only a week old and I wasn't even doing anything special with it. It's just been on a desk and I don't know how I did it.

Guess I'll have to live with the mark now although I've just purchased a "second skin" from the Apple Store to prevent further damage.

You should have got a massive one that dislocates your shoulder when you pick it up and lasts for 40 seconds on battery power.

Also you'd have two mouse buttons. OHO.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 2

My Powerbook is in great condition considering it's over five years old. Scratched to buggery, with a dirty screen that won't seem to clean properly and a battery that won't sit quite flush, but it's been used virtually every day since I got it and it's still going fine.

Doesn't have the power to view Flash movies properly or any new-fangled things like that, but it's still just awesome.

If I had any money I would dearly love a new one, though. (Even though the 12" model was the perfect size for me and they've ditched it.)

Likewise my Acer which has had 18 months use and only a few marks. Still plastic is alot harder to scratch than the poncy metal Apple use.

Which reminds me, now I have Bootcamp running I must get the Acer onto Ebay after I reinstall it. Someone is going to get a bargain considering how much I've pimped it.

Very easy to softmod and once done it will :

Play 'backups' of original xbox games (not really that much of a plus since any game will only be a few quid).
Play just about any media format you throw at it (not HD although it scales up to 720? if you have the right types of cables)

Play emulators very well for most 8 bit systems and 'early' arcade stuff.

Snes and Megadrive stuff is excellent on there , and a large chunk of N64 stuff plays really nicely as well

I have to say i was quite impressed with the different formats the 360 will play but you always find you have something that it just wont deal with because of some obscure codec or screen resolution but i havent found anything that the original xbox wont.

Not going into that much detail but if you want to softmod it you basically need a copy of either spinter cell (about 50p to pick up) , a specific bond game or mech assault , and a way to get a specially formatted save game on your system.

You start the game up , load the save and off you go.

I don't know everything, so you'll have to get someone else to fill in the blanks.

I know nothing about soft-modding as mine's an old-school chipped one, but I think it's been discussed on here before, so someone should be able to help you.
It should be able to play everything media-wise that you throw at it, but it'll struggle on the HD stuff as the Xbox just isn't powerful enough.
There are emulators for pretty much everything up to and including the Playstation and the N64 (not sure how good the Playstation emulation is, but the N64 used to be good enough to play 4 player Mario Kart on).
You should be able to get composite/s-video/scart/component leads (in ascending order of quality), so go for whatever you can plug in.

Edit - What Zaphod just said.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 2

Runcle - I softmodded my old Xbox last year and I can agree, it's an ace thing to do! I have mine streaming media off my PC, playing games off the hard drive, playing emulators and (the best bit for me) is playing arcade perfect versions of Killer Instinct 1 & 2.

The process is realatively easy and there's quite a few step by step guides on the net. The only major problem is getting hold of an action replay memory card and adaptor to copy the required saves across.

If you do get an Xbox and struggle with the action replay, you're more than welcome to borrow mine for a weekend or something!

My old 15" aluminium PowerBook is still in great shape for it's age - I always found the metal to be pretty resilient compared to plastic laptops I've had in the past.

That said, after we broke up I gave it to my ex, who recently gave it back to me after two years in her ownership. In that time she's scratched it to fuck and somehow shagged the battery, which worked fine before. Also, she's lost the power supply, so I can't use the bloody thing anyway!
