Also, just for the record, while I do think AE takes things too far at times and could possibly review his attitude a bit in terms of the PC vs consoles stuff I don't believe he deserves a lot of the shit he's got in the past and is getting in this thread.

I think a lot of posts in this thread are driven by the loss of people considered as friends. If I was of a cynical mind I might think that the only reason for recent departures has been to pre empt a thread of this ilk. It is admirable that people defend their friends but when this defence is taken from an apparently blind standpoint it loses any validity.

When you look at the cold hard facts in this matter the blame only lies with those who decided to act like utter twats and then quit when they failed to drive someone away using their normal tactics.

The fact that they are good friends of people here is probably a sign that IRL they hold some positive traits, perhaps they should have shown them rather than all the negative traits they were displaying on a daily basis.

I still don't get this, I really don't. I've said it before and I'll say it again, to anyone who may be interested. I've known AE for 10 years, we vehemently disagree about loads of stuff, on a most fundamental level, be it politics, religion, or any number of stupid, inconsequential shite like cars, fruit machines, games, whatever. We've had the most infamous rows over the years; the kind of A-bomb threads that would make even the 'all time' BEEX stuff like the Amy Winehouse thread and others look like a cakewalk. However, I *know* he is a genuine, nice guy, devoted husband and father, who if you were *really* in the shit, would instantly put all such shite aside and help you out, even if that meant putting himself well into the shit.

I mean really, this kind of thing is vastly more important to me. I really could not care less that the bloke disagrees with me about stuff; shit, most of my friends disagree with me. I would be one lonely fucker if my criteria for friendship was they must agree with my in the main daft, half-baked views.

I've made a total arse of myself on this forum more times than I care to remember; I'm far worse than he has ever been, by my own admission. Not on purpose, but still. We each of us have our foibles. Yes, I *do* miss the likes of Doc, Myp and Chinny (very glad to see you posting again Mr Chinster sir :) ), but by the same token I'm not going to blame AE and never will.

This thread is ridiculous you big bunch of school girls. If someone annoys you, ignore it. Thank god we all don't get along perfectly and thank god we have different outlooks on things, that's why I enjoy the debates here so much and value the opinions given in threads.
For the record, I like AEs chat in the car thread, even if I don't post the often I read with interest. I also find the console vs of debate hilarious and annoying in equal measure. If you find it 100% annoying, ignore it!

Yes. He's done enough nice things for other people elsewhere that he's earned carte blanche to tediously antagonise other posters- completely out of character no less - on other threads forever without fear of being asked not to.

Yes, ignoring it and not confronting the continual antagoising is the adult thing to do. Bottle it up. I shall do that or quietly depart, as many others have already done.

Also, it doesn't work properly with Tapatalk, so it's not as clear cut as just ignoring people.

Nemmie made the good point of why don't people just stop displaying those negative traits??

But can't you use THE POWER OF YOUR MIND to ignore, instead of relying on a computer to do it for you?

Seriously, myp (and to a lesser extent DocG) were habitually unpleasant and abusive towards me for months and I never felt the need to use the foe feature, I just filtered that shit out as much as was required to leave me able to focus on the stuff at BEEX that was still interesting and engaging.

It was the Manhunt Retrospective thread where the penny finally dropped for me, and I was like, 'Oh OK, these guys are actually taking this shite* seriously, how odd'.

* As Cavey so accurately put it.

But that's who I am, I don't do it deliberately to annoy people, you're basically telling me to pretend to be something I'm not for the convenience of a few folks who can't find it in themselves to turn the other cheek a bit.

If you find 'who I am' to be 'an intolerable cunt' then I apologise, but it's still just who I am - it's not like I'm on some kind of crusade to deliberately piss people off.

No, we're asking you to stop belabouring the same point in every thread that presents itself, despite several people already saying outright "THIS PISSES ME OFF". I'm not asking you not to be you. I'm not asking you to shut up. I'm not asking you to fuck off. I'm asking you to stop banging this tedious "consoles are children's toys" PC superiority drum whether it's warranted or not. I want a positive outcome. Not a negative one that causes more people to leave.

Would it help if I automatically IN MY MIND added "AE likes this on PC better" for every game thread?

I don't think anyone needs to put up with anything they're not happy with but if someone was annoying me that much to the point I would leave the forum, I would call them on it, if that didn't do anything I'd pm them about it and if that didn't do anything I'd ask the mods to have a private word with them. If that still didn't work I'd ignore them. And I don't mean out them on ignore, I mean I would literally just not engage in conversation with them. Unless something was said was a real personal attack, then just don't read what they write, or read it and ignore it!
If I look on YouTube and see some of the properly vile and terrible things people write on there to the point I want to round up all my friends, hunt them down and follow them around poking them with a sharp stick every time they so much as look at someone the wrong way, I just don't give them the pleasure of a response to a trolling comment and I instead go and look at something that pleases me or that I enjoy. Unless the majority of posters here were annoying me then I don't think I'd decide it was worth leaving about. I'm sorry if some people feel otherwise but I just can't really understand that position, and that's not a criticism.

What if you'd done all that already and it came down to a massive thread about "what's wrong with the forum" and you again state your point in a last ditch attempt to confront it? Hint if it's not yet clear: I'm not on stage 1.

If you feel you might have something to gain from that then go ahead, I am just surprised that so many people have apparently let themselves get so annoyed by it that they want to leave. It would be a real shame if you left, I love seeing your pictures in the nerdling thread and I like hear about what games you are playing, plus you sometimes treat us to a sketch and you have interesting things to add to debates. Plus you smell like incense. Can't you just roll your eyes and skim past if you feel like someone is going off down road you have seen to many times before?

Yes I've tried that. The frankly insulting outburst I said before having a week off in the Hitman thread was borne of frustration, and one I which to apologise to AE about, but it was the cork pinging off the top of the bottle. Now there's bile everywhere and I'm trying not to fill the bottle up again.

Although I find AE's PC stuff more entertaining than annoying (mainly because it allows me to flex my argue muscles), surely it wouldn't be too difficult to just stop beating that drum? If it'll make life easier around here and people will come back to post again, surely it's something you can manage? We're not restricting your personality or "who you are". Just asking you to stop posting the same argument over and over again despite the fact that it's continually beaten down by pretty much every forum member.

Let's face it, I know a lot of forums (in fact, most) that would've just banned AE by now. Not that I personally think that should happen of course, but that's how it would be dealt with in most places. So with that in mind, is it not possible to just stop posting the same argument over and over? For absolute clarity, I'm talking about PCs are better than consoles, consoles are dumbing down games, etc. just don't post about it! The argument is done.

Or! Start a PCs v Consoles thread and only post about it in there. Then people can argue their side if they wish.

Evidently not if Gaywood and myp have left over it! And although it doesn't personally bother me, that's a good enough reason for us to put a stop to it. Maybe people will come back.

:this:

Doesn't bother me, but I am not a particularly active poster, it is a huge shame that a few people have left due to the same argument poping up again and again. Just my 2 cents.

I will address this because it's a relevant point, I have covered it before but since I basically now seem to have my own 'please fuck off' thread it perhaps merits being repeated.

Believe it or not, I am actually 'platform ambivalent', I am an avid gamer first and foremost, I go where the games that I want to play are. (I've been a crossover console/computer gamer since the 8-bit days, as the boxes of stuff downstairs that I can't bring myself to throw away will bear testament to.)

I wasn't a 'day one purchaser' of the 360 but I was in there fairly early doors, I lashed out well over £1000 on a 40 inch LCD telly, one of the early JET TURBINE 360s and a 5:1 surround system, because I wanted to see all the cool new games on the latest console. At this point, the 360 pretty much had the drop on the PC in technology terms, as a fixed architecture platform it managed to do more with less, and for quite some time my PC was damn near relegated to being a glorified web browser and email machine - as I revelled in the awesomeness of the likes of Ridge Racer 6, the likes of which just didn't exist on the PC.

Indeed, the 'Saturday night crowd' - (these are the guys I've been playing online with for years, in some cases back to the days of dial-up modems in Quake) - all bought 360s and we had a lot of fun with them.

However, as the years went by it started to become obvious that the 360 was struggling with the games it was being asked to run, the 'Saturday night crowd' reached breaking point with DiRT and GRID, where the shitty framerate really started to piss us off, especially the dune buggy stuff in DiRT which deteriorated into a slideshow at times.

Add on the crappy VOIP, and the fact that we all preferred keyboard and mouse for FPS games (I bought Halo 3 on the 360 and just couldn't fucking play it), and almost without realising we were consciously doing it, we ditched the 360s and went back to the PC.

(From where I'm sat now I can see my 360 games collection, and it runs to many hundreds of pounds, and that's before you add in the hundreds more that I've spent on XBLA stuff, so the idea that I'm some kind of 'console hater' is just patently ridiculous.)

The last full price 360 game I bought was Need For Speed Most Wanted (launch day purchase), at which point I finally fell out with the massive compromises that were obviously being made to shoehorn games into the ageing 360's architecture.

But even now the 360 is my default choice for some games, Trials Evolution for example was an obvious 360 purchase, as was Pinball Arcade. I'm genuinely narked that GTAV is going to be a 'current-gen' title for the 360 because unless Rockstar have worked wonders with the engine, it's going to be the same shonky juddering mess that GTAIV was, and I would really rather much play a GTA game sat on the comfy sofa in front of the big telly with the 5:1 sound going on - I'd buy an XBox720 for that, I really would.

And IMO things have only got worse, entire GAMES are being broken across the back of the limitations of the platform, BF3 for example is a shockingly gimped travesty of a game on the 360, it's not just the pretties, it's the GAME ITSELF that is compromised and cut back and restricted at every single level.

And that's why I go on about it, because I'm a gamer, and what some folks have seen as 'PC evangelism' is actually 'games evangelism', I was like, 'Guys, seriously, the games are better on PC at the moment, you should check it out' - did I go on about it too much? Yes I probably did, and yes I probably failed to appreciate that other people's priorities for a gaming platform might be different to my own, and on balance I could have done with just shutting up about it sometimes, I probably still should, I suppose.

But if there's just one single point I want to make here, it's always been about the games, and in my opinion, the PC is where games should be played to get them at their best at the moment - that's really all there is to it. I just thought the guys here might be interested in that side of things, and yes I have yammered on about it too much, but it was never to try and piss people off and it was certainly never to try and fuck people off to the extent that they want to up sticks and leave.

I guess when people starting poking me about it I started poking back, and it escalated from there. But yes, I have to accept my part in that and I do so. I have tried to be more balanced about it recently but I figure the damage was done, so even where I genuinely just made a single 'fact-based' post in the Borderlands 2 thread, hackles were raised, and I can understand why.

I'm happy to call a truce on this one, if everyone else is.

The thing is, the thing that annoys people, is that you're preaching things we already know. We know PCs are more powerful. We know BF3 is a bit gimped compared to the PC version. We know all of this and yet we don't particularly care. We're just not arsed. That's generally - for bad or good - the mood of the majority of members here. One of complete "couldn't give a shit" to the technical shortcomings of the current generation of consoles. Just not arsed.

What winds people up no end is the fact that despite telling you this every time you bring it up, you bring it back up again literally days later. Not only that but you preach about it in a tone that suggests we don't know anything about what you're telling us. Like you're explaining it to us - the idiots who play on consoles and don't know any better - for the first time. Again and again. That repetition is absolutely driving people nuts.

I'm not starting an argument, I'm just trying to spell out what I believe to be the problem people have with AE! If he can stop posting about the PC thing, we can get on with our lives.

It's PC gone mad. I blame the liberals.

Also winterval.

I sincerely hope this is the thread where he finally gets it, but the fact that he went on to do the big post above just suggests to me that he hasn't.

I don't mind the odd informative post though about cross platform comparisons by the way. I read the 360 vs. WiiU Black Ops link (which was very worrying) for instance.

But if you preach about preferring PC's to 360 just one more time I swear I'll cut your fucking balls off.

Do everything but that and no one would bat an eyelid.

I enjoyed it when we talked about our dustbins and washing machines, although it might not have been to everyone's liking.

I don't envy Kovacs having to decide who stays and who leaves...
