The local Dominos and Papa John's have delivered some awesome, but offline-and-seemingly-COD only offers, but I have no cash.
MissN is still not back til Sunday afternoon.

Do feel free to spend your days frequenting the "Tedious and Obscure 80s Reminiscences Forum" ("All Shite, All The Time") instead of here, Chinny. We won't feel jilted. You may also make sure to spend time in the "Comparative Colouration, Kitchen Items" subforum.

Also, what Mr Russell said.

So, my girlfriend and I had an enjoyable blackberry-picking session late in the afternoon.

Or at least we did until 30 seconds after the photo was taken, when she dropped the whole tub, leaving a nothing but a squishy mess on the ground.

I've got about 4x that many in my freezer - overspill from MissN's allotment, which apparently vomits the things and their scratchy bastard vines.

FTFY.

Used to know someone who used to do this. Although it's worthwhile not just jumping on any old plane otherwise you'll end up in some dump or in one of those newer european airports the budgets fly to that are miles from anywhere.

I'm eating some rather yummy ice cream, and I'm facing an agonising choice and I don't know what to do.
There's a small, yet still slightly daunting amount of ice cream left in the tub - should I...

a) eat it all, thus making myself feel sick, or...
b) put it back in the freezer, even though my brain is telling me it's a stupidly small amount to bother putting back?

Indeed. I'm racking my brains, but I can't think of a single circumstance where eating ice cream would have been the wrong thing to do.

Possibly something involving a funeral, an open coffin and a lack of seating, but even then, it's ice cream!

When I was digging in Ireland there were a couple of Swedes on the site who were mad for the stuff. I never did have the courage to try it myself (more to do with the whole "ground glass and it makes a hole in your mouth" thing, to be honest. I'm kind of glad I didn't.

Just noticed that the Natural History museum has a deep exhibition on 'til next week! Excellent, might go to that on Monday.

Tomorrow we are still thinking of visiting the Notting Hill Carnival but have also noticed that there is an exhibition on called Cake Britain, all about cake. So I think it's getting priority. The only reason we are going to the carnival is because Jen wants to eat chicken and listen to drums.

You just won a lot of respect for saying "the carnival" rather than "carnival". I want to stab people who say "carnival". Maybe that's a thing..

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 22 - Two Little Ducks

Sorry about this chaps. This is emo, but it's not really about me this time.

I can't find the article anymore, but there was a story on the Herts, Beds & Bucks section of the BBC News website about a fire at a flat in Leighton Buzzard last weekend. When the emergency services arrived, 80% of the place was up in flames and they pulled a 60 year old man out in a 'life-threatening condition'.

This man was actually the father of one of my best friends, I've known him since I was 8 years old. He had third-degree burns over 43% of his body.

Unsurprisingly, he died on Friday night. I only found out yesterday whilst myself and my girlfriend were moving stuff into our new flat.

I've just woken up from the most bizarre dream where I was in the lounge and he was sat in an armchair. He looked good, like he did when I was a kid, but he didn't say much. I was pacing around talking to him, but he just nodded and stuff. Eventually I said something that made me realise what had happened and that he couldn't really be in the chair at all. I told him I was sorry about what had happened and he just nodded at me. I turned to the door to see my girlfriend sat outside the room in tears, absolutely sobbing. I tried to ask her if I'd been talking to myself for what seemed like hours, but my words kept slurring. She knew what I meant though and she nodded and I realised then that I'd been chatting to an empty chair. I asked her for help, but she was too scared to come in the room with me. Then I woke up.

Anyway, I'm sorry for posting this, but I just feel really shaken up and needed to off-load.

Nothing emo about that post, mate. Glad you posted to help get it off your chest. I'm sorry for you and your friend and his father. Thoughts and all that. Sounds like an upsetting dream. I guess sometimes the mind just feels the need process shocking stuff like that on a deeper level, and in creeps such a dream.

Perhaps it was just your brain's way of trying to comfort you - perhaps a link in the brain that had greater power in a more religious time, that person appearing to you to be 'ok', letting you know that they were doing alright in a time when pretty much everyone believed in an afterlife. Perhaps your more reasoning mind then took over the dream 'he couldn't really be there'. I know that when my grandfather died I had many dreams (especially one that I can remember as fresh as it was when I was dreaming it) where he appeared as he was in my youth - healthy, happy, and took me to where he 'lived' now - seemingly a charming old folks home next to a river which I'd never been able to walk down before. Like your dream he didn't say much but was content. I never had the illusion broken for me in my dream, but I always guessed it was my brain trying to bring me some comfort.

Sorry to hear about your friend's father - it must be terrible for him/her right now, and I can imagine it brings you shock and sadness, also.

Hehe, I was just using Google to search for any updates on the John Higgins match fixing story, and as many of the links were so old I decided to search for news stories, as they often list them more or less according to recency. The most recent story was this, from today, about the crcket fixing.

Oh, the writing made me laugh:
Quote:
WHEN Mohammad Amir took his fifth wicket at Lord's on Friday, he dropped to his knees and kissed the most hallowed turf in cricket.

The most hallowed turf in sport, perhaps.

It was a kiss of BETRAYAL.

A betrayal of the sport's soul by a young man corrupted by greed.

A betrayal of a troubled nation beset by problems, grappling with the harrowing effects of a natural tragedy.

Think that is an exaggeration? Think again.

In a time of human devastation, cricket was an escape for the people of Pakistan.

Capitalisation his, not mine.
