Just noticed that the Natural History museum has a deep exhibition on 'til next week! Excellent, might go to that on Monday. Tomorrow we are still thinking of visiting the Notting Hill Carnival but have also noticed that there is an exhibition on called Cake Britain, all about cake. So I think it's getting priority. The only reason we are going to the carnival is because Jen wants to eat chicken and listen to drums.

Sorry about this chaps. This is emo, but it's not really about me this time. I can't find the article anymore, but there was a story on the Herts, Beds & Bucks section of the BBC News website about a fire at a flat in Leighton Buzzard last weekend. When the emergency services arrived, 80% of the place was up in flames and they pulled a 60 year old man out in a 'life-threatening condition'. This man was actually the father of one of my best friends, I've known him since I was 8 years old. He had third-degree burns over 43% of his body. Unsurprisingly, he died on Friday night. I only found out yesterday whilst myself and my girlfriend were moving stuff into our new flat. I've just woken up from the most bizarre dream where I was in the lounge and he was sat in an armchair. He looked good, like he did when I was a kid, but he didn't say much. I was pacing around talking to him, but he just nodded and stuff. Eventually I said something that made me realise what had happened and that he couldn't really be in the chair at all. I told him I was sorry about what had happened and he just nodded at me. I turned to the door to see my girlfriend sat outside the room in tears, absolutely sobbing. I tried to ask her if I'd been talking to myself for what seemed like hours, but my words kept slurring. She knew what I meant though and she nodded and I realised then that I'd been chatting to an empty chair. I asked her for help, but she was too scared to come in the room with me. Then I woke up. Anyway, I'm sorry for posting this, but I just feel really shaken up and needed to off-load. |

Perhaps it was just your brain's way of trying to comfort you - perhaps a link in the brain that had greater power in a more religious time, that person appearing to you to be 'ok', letting you know that they were doing alright in a time when pretty much everyone believed in an afterlife. Perhaps your more reasoning mind then took over the dream 'he couldn't really be there'. I know that when my grandfather died I had many dreams (especially one that I can remember as fresh as it was when I was dreaming it) where he appeared as he was in my youth - healthy, happy, and took me to where he 'lived' now - seemingly a charming old folks home next to a river which I'd never been able to walk down before. Like your dream he didn't say much but was content. I never had the illusion broken for me in my dream, but I always guessed it was my brain trying to bring me some comfort. Sorry to hear about your friend's father - it must be terrible for him/her right now, and I can imagine it brings you shock and sadness, also. |
