Plus shooting the animals that come out , plus 500points for each 'brick' there are some levels if you shoot the bricks ,almost get to the end and then redo it you get loads of points (i'm sure i had at least one of these for this game but it was not on purpose)

I agree with some of the other comments about the slightly odd collision detection but i guess if you compare this to the other 8 bit ports it does look and play really well.

my best for the evening :

Joystick only. So check your emulator for the joystick mapping keys. Arnold on the Mac is shit at this (it maps to keys my Macbook doesn't have) so I'm using Winape on the PC. Go to the input menu and redefine away. Remember to save your mappings for future use.

I can't get this to work. I set the keys, but nothing seems to work. ?

winape has separate controls for if the numlock is on or off... make sure you set both, or just try changing the num lock status!

What emulator are you using ? , my normal choice (Caprice) doesnt work for this so i've switched to winape , but had to mess around to get the controls working since my keyboard doesnt have a numeric keypad (which all the joystick stuff defaults to)

Remap the keys in Winape. Winape allows you to define one set of keys for numlock on and another for numlock off. So check your numlock.

For some reason I always thought I was good at Pang, but I seem to have lost it.

Although like I say, as per my experiment if I start from India I can get quite far because that's where I used to start from.

Bastard! :DD

Tip for that level. Get the catapult and climb the ladder to near the top. If you fire the catapult on the ladder it unleashes a load of shots in one go for some reason. Aimed correctly you can polish off a balloon in pretty much one blast.

I got ~40000 I doubt this puts me on the leaderboard, so I didn't get a screen shot. If you need one though, I am sure (?) I can get that score again. :)
I also realised this is the first time I have ever played pang.

I always thought it was a catapult. Never mind.

No 1Up on the GX4000 version that I've ever seen.

Not one i like

My score at the moment is 20400 level 3 (i got level 1 cleared by a warp block and level 2 by earning about 5 extra lives) , no screenshot because the screen vanishes almost as soon as its game over and you need 25000 to get on the hi score table

Speed is *fast* and you often dont have time to move your ship to catch the ball (i got to level 3 with one life , ball launched - hit a brick and went to the opposite side of the screen to where i was)
Flickering when multiple enemies on screen is annoying
*twice* on the 2nd screen the ball went right through my ship !

Oh and the unskippable intro lasts longer than most of your games

Ahhhhh , i have the answer.

Make sure you select model type as a 48k spectrum.

Its much slower and easier to control , if you want a laugh try a 128 which is what i've played the last dozen games on :-)

A real score on the high score table now (still only level 3 and still got there with a warp) :

My paddle moves faster to the right, than the left, and accelerates rapidly. Is this normal?

From what i can see yes , and if your paddle is moving at the opposite direction to the way the ball is going there seems to be a good chance the ball will go right through it :-)

I can't redefine the keys in zxspin, previously it ignored it, and now, left button is continually active.
Can you use a joystick? ZXspin can see my joystick, but not control the game.

The whole idea of making the bat move faster depending on where the ball is is fecking terrible.

That sounds like it's looking for a Kempston joystick but can't see one.

I always assumed this was the name of the bat- 'After the mothership Arkanoid was destroyed, a craft 'Vaus' scrambled away from it'.
Not as good a name as 'Doh', though. Which is the best name for anything ever.

Surely some sort of punctuation would be requied there. Or could the Spectrum not cope with commas? I know it won't let me map to use the comma/fullstop keys! :)
Also, I don't know what a Kempston is, but I have turned off that option. It seems to be working now, but still won't map to keys correctly. Oh well, Breakout was better.

This is starting to get a bit random depending on how many lives the game wants to throw at me.

Bloody bastard to play. Even in 48k mode the paddle makes seemingly random speed changes when it feels like it.

Theres definitely a bit of luck to the game with the way it sometimes throws extra lives at you , or gives you a level warp to get past the level

54,380. You can see why they did the variable bat thing to replace the analogue controller of the arcade but it's frustrating at times, particularly when you get the multiball power-up. Collision detection is annoyingly inconsistent too.

Seems like the difference between a crap score and a decent one is getting past level 3 without losing too many lives.

It's OK. If you don't make the high score table we'll take your word for it. Them is the rules. Just post the score.

Levels 8 and 9 aren't much fun so I think that'll be my last go.

Remember folks, if you can't make the high score table don't panic! Just post your score here and we'll trust you. Unless it's 89.112 or something weird in which case we might question it.

I tried in vain to better my score last night and failed. Too much in the game is down to luck rather than skill IMO.
