Well, that was quite a result for qualifying. now, with the clocks going forward, it means a real 6am start tomorrow. or, 0545 if you want to make the coffee and brekkie before the start.

Did they rerun this later this morning then? I watched it live as I happened to wakeup at 6:45 and saw the final quali session.
I think it's going to be an interesting season as all the top teams from last year with the possible exception of BMW are going to get nowhere until we reach Europe by the looks of things.

Whilst I think of it, I was reading New Scientist yesterday (don't ask), but they actually had a short article about KERS in there, and the different approaches to the problem. one team, I *think* it was Williams, are using a flywheel arrangement. When questions were asked about the safety elements of this, in the event of a crash a heavy wheel spinning at high speed being a BAD THING. they were most confident that it would just shattered nigh on straight away of there were a crash. And went on happily to further explain that they were so confident of this property of the material they used, they've mounted it behind the driver's head...

All very much improved, there. Proper music, slick yet understated titles, no stupid breaks (motor racing just does not work for me at all with adverts. At all.) and a commentator with a voice I'm not going to hate ater five minutes like that other guy at ITV.

Why do teams even have a right to protest? Let the scrutineers make these decisions in the parc ferme after a race.

Despite everything, the teams still do more to undermine the sportsmanship of the thing with tit-for-tat bollocks than Ecclestone ever could with his madcap schemes. I know F1 has always been the least gentlemanly sport in the world, but I'm not wrong when i say the sniping and pettiness has become far, far more evident to the viewing public over the last decade or so. Since Schumacher, really. I hate it.

Shut up and race your cars, you spoilt brats.

It may be symptomatic of the fact that we've had a decade of very little that could be done to win races on the track.

Cross the line before other drivers do, and don't fucking crash on the way.

The hair actually went up on the back of my neck as the guitar kicked in. I need to get out more.

Hats off to the Beeb for resisting the urge to update the music to some hideous yoof-orientated dancing-round-a-fire-alarm effort.

Interesting final weight of vehicles here (and a nice touch that they publish these figures this year). Looking at those numbers unless Jenson or Rubens either crash or breakdown they're going to swan off into the distance in this race, not only are they heavier than people thought they're still faster.

1. Jenson Button - 664.5kg
2. Rubens Barrichello - 666.5kg
3. Sebastien Vettel - 657kg
4. Robert Kubica - 650kg
5. Nico Rosberg - 657kg
6. Felipe Massa - 654kg
7. Kimi Raikkonen - 655.5kg
8. Mark Webber - 662kg
9. Nick Heidfeld - 691.5kg
10. Fernando Alonso - 680.7kg
11. Kazuki Nakajima - 685.3kg
12. Heikki Kovalainen - 690.6kg
13. Sebastien Buemi - 675.5kg
14. Nelson Piquet - 694.1kg
15. Giancarlo Fisichella - 689kg
16. Adrian Sutil - 684.5kg
17. Sebastien Bourdais - 662.5kg
18. Lewis Hamilton - 655kg
19. Jarno Trulli* - 660kg
20. Timo Glock* - 670kg

Interesting that Hamilton still picked up some points. If he can hang on to the coat-tails while McLaren fix their car up, he could yet have a part to play.

I just re-read my original thoughts on this season - I had to laugh at how bad I got it wrong going on previous history. With the exception of Hamilton lucking into 4th everybody else with previous form was found wanting really. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll see some more interesting racing this year, that's for sure. There was definitely a lot of overtaking in the mid field.

Hamilton promoted to 3rd after stewards enquiry found that Trulli retook his position "after" the safety car came out.

It was like Formula 1, except with overtaking!

I loved it.

I am now an F1 fan again.

Crikey, that means he could actually end up winning, given the appeal against the Brawn cars.

Annnnnd it's started again.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... 978186.stm
Quote:
Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been stripped of their podium finish and all points at the Australian Grand Prix.

The sport's world governing body said they were excluded "for providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards at the hearing on 29 March".

If that was the case then a F1 police car would pull along side him and wave him over.

"Is this your car sir?"
"Actually no, it belongs to Mr Dennis"
"Oh dear, oh dear."
