What new features has it introduced then?

I normally try Firefox for a fortnight after each major release before going back to Opera.

Is it me or have they removed the lower status bar by default? It makes using Echofon a bit of a pain.

Even if the new Firefox is amazing, I refuse to use it. I'm not touching any Mozilla product for another four years. Firefox 2.0 came out in 2006. It memory leaked to fuck. They didn't fix it. They didn't fix it in 3.0 either. I waited. They never fixed it. So now they're on probation for the amount of time I put up with their shitty memory leaks. Or something.

To be honest, I just prefer Chrome. It's clean. Also, bookmark sync with Google account. Also, fast.

Was the "Home" icon on the wrong side for anyone else? It was easy enough to fix, but wasn't sure if it was because of the theme* I use no playing right.
*Littlefox, it's good for an extra line or two on the eee.

Yeah it's on the right hand side. I don't think I've ever pressed the "home" icon.

Due to a lack of space I don't use the bookmark toolbar on the eee so I've gmail & the MetOffice on it for quickness.

I installed it at home last night and was pretty impressed with it. It'll take me a little time to get used to the layout of the address/tabs/bookmark layout but I'm sure that won't take long.

Um, on the Firefox Beta, am I going mad or do the sides of the window either change colour or move whenever it's connecting to something? I'm finding it quite distracting.

not done any research into this, but it doesn't seem to have the little drop down arrows on the back/forwards arrows like it used to.

FF4 seems fine, nothing life changing but everything feels a bit smoother/shinier/quicker. Sync is fucking rubbish though. Not even 24 hours into using it and it lost loads of my bookmarks?! Reinstalling XMarks and downloading my recent backup fixed that, but, seriously, WTF Mozilla?! This is one thing you DON'T fuck up! Looking on the web, I'm not the only one to encounter this too.

My printing problem from further up the page was thankfully fixed in one of the later betas. I still need to get used to not using F6 to switch to the address bar though - because the tabs are now at the top (I know you can switch them back if need be), F6 switches to those instead.

I did, no regrets so far.

I just accidentally started the old firefox version on this PC and immediately noticed it was "wrong".

Weird (but very minor issue) in Firefox in that none of the Flash stuff on Facebook appears. No errors, just white space where there should be something. Flash itself works fine on other sites, but I've updated the Flash Player, Firefox itself and tried in Firefox's safe mode too. Most odd. Oh, and it all works in Chrome fine.

I use LogMeIn quite extensively at work and it does very occasionally bomb Firefox 4 completely out. Still works better than it does in Chrome and the other improvements to the browser are enough to stop me pining for Firefox 3, just a tad annoying is all.

Chrome has been my fav for quite a while, but lately Flash keeps crashing almost every time I use it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, updated Flash whenever possible, but it still crashes. I had a look on the Chrome forum and a lot of people seem to be having the same problem. I keep checking it to see if it's fixed, but have been using Firefox as an alternative in the meantime. I tried using IE8 but I keep getting error messages that Flash doesn't work with W7 in 64bit or some such shit. This is only a prob with my work machine as I'm still using Vista at home.

To summarise, I use Chrome when it works properly and Firefox when Chrome doesn't.

Hmm.. odd that Firefox is prompting me to upgrade from 4 to 5 beta. Details of the new version are here.. er, if you can call them details.

Callling this "Firefox 5.0" instead of "Firefox 4.1" doesn't really make it a major version though.

Maybe, maybe not — would 1,000 new features & changes not earn a new major number? I guess version numbering is changing, just like the Beta tag (and perhaps wrongly), but Microsoft seem set in their ways of huge updates after huge delays instead of incrementing. The web seems to be too fast-paced to maintain that philosophy any more to me.

Only because it's an arse, and the changes are drastic between versions so things break and change. Make it silently upgrade in the background regularly and incrementally.

You know how people give MS shit for releasing "major" versions of software that are, in fact "minor" releases? I point this out merely as an aside.

The concept of version numbers is rapidly being broken. I'm not convinced that this is a good thing.

My work computer prompted me to update to mozilla 5.0 this morning, so I did, then found that logmein doesn't work. I imagine it will soon, so I decided not to downgrade but to download chrome.

I must say I don't like it at all, the logmein plugin isn't very good, where previously I could copy/paste between the two pcs I can't now, and it's all white round the edges, and I don't like the message boxes.

I hope logmein fix the plugin quickly! I want to go back to it ASAP

I rather dislike chrome.

I struggle to say why, though. It just seems quite unusable.
