I had thought I had posted in here saying I had watched Batman Begins yesterday but turns out I put it in the meal and movie thread by accident.
Well last night we watched Batman Returns as well and really enjoyed it. Are they making anymore?

I saw Pontypool last night, what a very strange little film. Unfortunately it isn't about the small Welsh town but rather it is set in the Canadian town of Pontypool. In setup it's very similar to the brilliant 'Talk Radio' in terms of there only being 3 or 4 characters in it and all the action taking place in the radio studio. It tells the story of the breakdown of society happening outside the studio with their only news coming from periodic phone calls from staff and the public. I get the feeling it was made by a bunch of French sepratists but it's an intriguing little piece and well worth a view.

Saw a straight-to-DVD flick called Bitten earlier tonight. It has Jay from Jay & Silent Bob in it, who really can't act at all. The girl in it was gorgeous and naked the entire time though, so it was money well spent.

How on Earth do you know where Pontypool is? I grew up there, and Toby lives there now.

Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: Heath Ledger - Good, Lily Cole - Pretty, Visuals - interesting and often python esque, Tom Waits - Excellent and fun, Story - confused and a bit of a cop out ending. Hinted early on at being a potential darker film (as Kermode says) but it's almost like the ending was changed.

Yeah, that was pretty good. The end was much better than the beginning, though.

Ditto. I think Pontypool may have been from hearing rugby results on the telly or 'don't go to Pontypool as it's home to small welsh dwarves'.. not sure which.

Mostyn is where that abandoned ferry I took photos of lays to rest. The place is a shithole, but that ship is exceptionally cool.

Dunno really. It's a bit odd, not sure what I think about it.

Liked the 80s cars and the C64, all filmed in black and white. I guessed 1987 correctly!
Don't like Nick Cave though.

I watched 'Inglorious Bastards' the other night. The 1978 one from when directors could still spell :DD

It was a big adventure that made me laugh loads. The bonus interview between Castellari & Tarantino was mildly interesting too.

£3 well spent in Tesco.

Still not seen Basterds. So I dunno how much the story's changed.

Watched The Big Sleep for the first time the other night. No idea what was going on half the time, but damn, Bogie's cool as a cucumber and Bacall is hot. In fact, every single woman in that film was a looker. And everyone was cool.

Can someone explain what actually happened?

Anyway, great fun.

Nope, even the filmmakers lost track. There's at least one completely unexplained death, IIRC. Doesn't stop it being a great film, though.

Agreed. Suprisingly ace.

In that I expected it to be ace, but didn't expect it to be ace in the way that it was ace.

I expected it to be hackneyed, done-before and mediocre, but am now revising according to these statements. Shall see it soonish!

Though enough with the zombies eh, film-makers?

Indeed. They still haven't had zombies running and jumping into a moving car, and then driving it after their prey. More zombie films, so we can have zombies doing more things!

Grrr.

Fast 'zombies' aren't zombies in the same way that Xenomorphs (from Aliens) aren't zombies. Because they are fast, they are dangerous opponents individually.

Proper zombies are scary because when they're dangerous, they are a writhing mass of grabbing hands and biting teeth, a tide of rotting humanity that is inexorable. That is a very different fear, compared to the more slasher-like fast ones.

Plus, with fast 'zombies', you don't get zombie slapstick.

Chandler's novel suffers exactly the same confusion and he himself couldn't satisfactorily explain all the dead bodies, so I think pointing a finger at the filmmaker's might be a little mean.

STOP MAKING FLIMS OR TV SHOWS WITH FUCKING VAMPIRES IN THEM FOR FUCKS SAKE! CHRIST!

Billy and Sally are newlyweds who are trying to save money to buy their own house. A series of rum events leaves Sally pregnant and Billy with one leg, which severely hampers his job as a postman. Will they be able to get the local coal mining industry back on its feet and learn to play the trombone for the brass band? Only time will tell. This delightful romantic comedy is directed by Rutger Hauer. Billy is a vampire, by the way.

Multimillionaire newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane dies alone in his extravagant mansion, Xanadu, speaking a single word: "Rosebud". In an attempt to figure out the meaning of this word, a reporter tracks down the people who worked and lived with Kane; they tell their stories in a series of flashbacks that reveal much about Kane's life but not enough to unlock the riddle of his dying breath. This delightful modern adaption of Citizen Kane is directed by Rutger Hauer. One of Kane's servants is a vampire, by the way. She's only in it for two frames or so, but you can definitely tell she is.

A toy named Woody has it all. He is practically the leader in Andy's toy room, Bo Peep has the hots for him, and most importantly, he is Andy's favorite toy. But when the clocks strike Andy's birthday, a new toy arrives. Buzz Lightyear, a space cadet who thinks he is a space ranger, (not a toy in a room) instantly wins over Andy, thus becoming Andy's new treasure. But when Woody is accused of knocking Buzz out of the window, he must go into the world and find Buzz, with many delays... and Rutger Haurer. There's one bit with a vampire in the background. Right shit me up it did.
