Last day at work today, that was a bit odd. I got given a fifty quid voucher for Play.com, which I was mighty chuffed with, partly because that's Dead Rising 2 sorted, but also partly because I didn't realise I was fifty pounds worth of liked there.

The leaving do didn't go quite so well. My gf had asked if she could come along as she had never met any of the people I talked about from work before and also because it would mean I could have a beer or two and not worry about driving home. She told me that she'd meet us all at the pub at 5:30pm, so when I received a text from her at 5:20pm informing me that she had been a bit delayed and hadn't actually left our flat yet - the flat which is an hour's drive away - alarm bells started ringing.

The alarm bells gave up when I got another text from her 20 mins later telling me she'd left the flat but locked her keys inside, meaning she couldn't get back in or use her car. So leaving do got called a bit short as I had to immediately stop drinking, go back to the office, pick up my car and make the drive back home borderline on the drink-drive limit. Gah!

The first album of theirs I bought, 'Twin Cinema, remains my favourite. For some reason, I was underwhelmed by this year's effort. It lacked the 'wow, this is fun' factor of previous discs and hasn't really hooked me in the way others have done.

I'm consistently amazed at how quickly MrsA is able to fill our social calendar, free weekends are now exceedingly scarce and I'm going to have to actually confirm some loose arrangements. Sometimes, just having a chilled weekend at home is a good thing I think.

Just fired up the Wii to see what Virtual Console and Wiiware delights were unleashed upon us this week. One of the Wiiware titles -

Balance Training Physiofun
Patients who have completed a rehabilitation program know the problem: Lots of exercises are often monotonous and boring. Especially when we're talking about bodily poise and balance, there's hardly any variation. This is where Balance Training Physiofun comes in. The program helps make balancing exercises entertaining. Balance Training Physiofun brings together lots of functions: Together with meaningful tests such as measuring the body's centre of gravity and balance, the 'Physio Mode' offers the opportunity to create entertaining and fun training plans.

Yours for a bargain 2000 points (so about £15). The most expensive download on there.

Quiz time!
I've just been involved in an incident on the motorway. Basically, to the best of my recollection (and to summarise slightly), I went from the right hand lane to the centre lane and as I was about 3/4 of the way into the lane a big truck decided he would like to move from the left lane into my car. I managed to swerve to avoid him (and everyone else), but I eventually spun it and scraped the front of the car across the central reservation. I think I'm ok, but I definitely felt the impact and apart from the guy in the car behind making sure I was ok nobody else was involved. I obviously have no idea about the truck as I was too busy trying to straighten the car out to take down his reg. Is there anything I can do to even get confirmation it was his fault, or am I going to be stuck paying for this?

For two people it is £60 to see Spurs play Wolves next weekend at White hart Lane OR £60 to see MK Dons play Wednesday.

Fucking ludicrous pricing.

Really sorry to hear about this, but pelased it's only the car that took a beating.

I'd nip to A&E and get yourself checked out in case of whiplash. It can take a while to come on.

Even if it turns out you haven't got whiplash. I suggest walking around in a neck brace for the next few weeks anyway to make it look good for the bogus insurance claim. I'll look forward to paying part of your damages in my insurance premium next year.

Thanks for being so compassionate. I don't think there's anything wrong with me anyway, so unless I wake up in agony tomorrow then I'm not going to pursue anything. Obviously though, I'd rather not have to fork out to get my car sorted. Rest assured though I'll do everything I can to make sure your premium isn't affected.

In the South Facing Room at MaliTowers, I've a TV. In the loft I have an aerial. i wish to connect the two together.

If I drill a hole in the ceiling, and run a lead down the corner of the wall, would this or this contain everything I need to make it work?

Alternatively, I'd like the aerial to be a socket, flush to the wall, making it look like a neater job, but I'm not sure how to do this .

Thanks, retrospectively, for my recent payout! It got me out of a bind. Also, I still haven't properly recovered and the physiotherapy didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

Sorry. Hope you're OK. I wasn't suggesting for a moment that you would feign injury. Unfortunately cynicism and poor attempts to be amusing come far more easily to me than doling out meaningless platitudes to internet acquaintances. I've still not quite got used to this being excellent malarkey yet.

Obviously many people are injured as the result of car accidents, but many others use it as an excuse to milk the system for all it's worth as everyone is doubtless aware. Someone I know did indeed walk round with a neck brace for weeks after a minor shunt despite being totally uninjured and got paid out. The shitehouse.

Sound like you just need a long length of aerial cable and a surface mounted outlet box (like the square things in the link below). Maybe a connector and plug to connect the aerial outlet plug to the cable.

Glad to hear you're OK Joans, although in this instance I suspect you'll have to stump up the cash for any insurance claim etc. yourself.

It was a 50/50 situation I think - he should have looked to make sure no-one was in/filtering into his new lane, and you should have done the same.

In some respects, it would have probably been better if you HAD hit him and not swerved out of the way, he'd have had to stop then (or risk being prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident) and you'd have had some insurance details.

Glad you're ok Joans, sounds like a scary encounter and thank goodness you didn't hit anyone in the outside lane when you swerved, or that no one hit you once you'd crashed. I hope it doesn't cost you that much but just keep reminding yourself that although it was unlucky it happened, it was lucky it wasn't much worse.

Gaz, if I genuinely thought it was a case of us both going for the same gap at the same time and not seeing each other, then I'd hold my hands up and admit it was as much my fault as it was his. However, to the best of my recollection, I'd almost completed my move into the middle lane before he started to move which seems to suggest one of three things: 1. He checked when I wasn't there, but then delayed slightly before changing lanes. 2. He checked, but didn't see me. 3. He didn't check at all. None of which make it 50/50 in my book.

I had considered that I'd have been better off hitting him, but I doubt I could have done so and still got away with the low amount of damage to myself and the car, so I think I'll settle for this outcome. After further examination it looks like I got away with scraping the front of the car across the central reservation. The main problem looks to be that the bumper has been skewed slightly off the rest of the car, I've no idea if that can be fixed or not.

Anyway, after a nights sleep I don't appear to have developed any major aches or pains, so I'll take that as a good sign.

Lovely, thank you very much. I was able to beg some "cable coving" from a friend last night, so that's probably the spur to complete this.

Right, well it seems like car crashes are yesterdays news. Todays task is to sort out the internet.
1. Internet has stopped working, can still access router, but it's not getting an IP from the modem.
2. Connect laptop directly to modem, still no luck.
3. Try a different cable, hooray, internet.
4. Connect modem back to router, still won't get an IP
5. Factory reset router and spend ages trying to connect to it so I can set up the wireless network again (can anyone explain why I couldn't access the router through a network cable unless I had the wireless on my laptop switched on?)
6. Setup wireless and reconnect everything backup, still won't get an IP from the modem.
7. Try a different router, but that refuses to give my laptop an IP at all (keep getting 169.254 addresses).

This is why I hate networking, can anyone give me any ideas? I'm willing to accept that somehow a network cable and my routers internet port have both simultaneously died, but I'd obviously like to get everything up and running with this other router, so I know that's the problem.

I'll just register my concern for your well being after your crash, and hope it doesn't cause too much grief fixing wise later for you, and then duck out before internet queries start heading your way.

Although normally right clicking the connection icon and clicking Repair usually works for me.

Fair enough. I'd agree and say that it was more his fault, if that's the case.

Quote:

The frame behind the bumper is, as far as I'm aware, supposed to deform in a way that doesn't affect the rest of the car unless it's a serious crash, so it's probably repairable. Whether it's repairable under the insurance without it being written off, I don't know though. Could always take it to a mechanic and get his opinion on it, and then if it's fixable but the insurance co. want to write it off, buy it back off the insurance co. for a knock-down price and get it fixed yourself.

Good stuff, as long as you're OK that's the main thing.

Our company has a new Operations Manager this year, and while he doesn't mind the confectionery going into stores from around now (£5 Quality Street tins and the like), he has put an embargo on any Christmas cards/wrap etc going out on display until mid October. Hooray!

Fun fact: the most mince pies get sold in which month of the year?

Sound like you just need a long length of aerial cable and a surface mounted outlet box (like the square things in the link below). Maybe a connector and plug to connect the aerial outlet plug to the cable.

Lovely, thank you very much. I was able to beg some "cable coving" from a friend last night, so that's probably the spur to complete this.

I see no problem selling mince pies (especially fresh ones) all year round, but I draw the line at seeing Christmas trees, tinsel (at all, ever), Santa and baubles in fucking September.

And if you can't tell, I've been surrounded by the lot today, as the local garden centres have started with their decorations already.

California police hunt men dressed as bears.

The police aren't dressed as bears, the men are.

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha

Best news I've heard from Kernow in a while.

69 year old man gets 12 years, and told to pay £800,000. Next year, he's facing a proceeds of crime action. Excellent.
